Things we love about babies

Ahh I'm SUCH a baby person 🥰 Constantly broody but at the same just love my two sweet boys ♥️I have a 5 and 2 year old. I felt like first time round I was quite overwhelmed but second time has just been so precious and calm. Mainly because I stopped listening to others and have done my thing I think!

Just thought I'd start a thread to share all our favourite baby-isms. I'll start -

The way they throw their arms and legs around when a newborn like crazy with no self awareness or purpose

When they start to recognise you

Multiple day naps

Breast feeding ♥️

They stay where you put them Grin for the first few months anyway!

TheVolturi · 11/06/2022 19:40

The first giggle. My second, I loved him obviously but when he first laughed at my silly antics, oh, my, goodness. I fell in love right there.

Soubriquet · 11/06/2022 19:43

Their smell and the weight of their little bodies that manage to fit perfectly in your arms

Oh my goodness, just everything!!!! I absolutely adore babies! I love their chubby rolls, and when they start to cuddle in and snuggle their heads in. Just gorgeous!!

Skinnermarink · 11/06/2022 19:44

I can’t think of a single beautiful thing about breastfeeding actually, but I appreciate that’s not everyone’s experience- if it was no one would do it.

Mine, when I’m holding him sometimes or he’s just sitting on my lap, he’ll turn around and just stare at me intently and smile- like he’s saying, ‘I’m glad it’s you’

it’s the best.

merryhouse · 11/06/2022 19:46

The smiles

the giggles

the wide-eyed look of noticing

the top-of-the-head smell

Barleysugar86 · 11/06/2022 19:47

Haha, second that about not loving breastfeeding. I do it for them, but man I hate feeling like I'm being tugged at, scratched at and chewed on really.

I love it when they lie on my shoulder napping and they are so peaceful and softly breathing.

This, absolutely this

Jinglejangl · 11/06/2022 19:55

Their chubby little legs (currently have my 6 month old asleep on me with his legs out )

Smiles and laughs

Little snores when he's asleep

He's just started blowing raspberries

When they can sit up on their own bit are still little and compact- gorgeous little lumps ❤️

ladygindiva · 11/06/2022 19:57

I just love their chubby legs, the chubbier the better... Those little folds of fat make my heart melt 🤣 also when they laugh. Dd1s first laugh was at her dad when he popped his jumper over his head... It was so gorgeous he did it about another 50 times to keep hearing it and made himself late for work!

BusyBeaver · 11/06/2022 19:57

When they fall asleep laying on your chest and you feel so lucky that they feel so safe and snuggly but you also can't really move.

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 11/06/2022 19:59

Sleeping on me whilst I binge watched line of duty

DisgruntledPelican · 11/06/2022 20:01

this. I think it’s why an 18 month age gap is so common, 6-9 month olds are adorable and my broodiness was off the charts when mine were that age.

contact naps, all cuddled in on the shoulder. I miss that.

loafandleaf · 11/06/2022 20:02

I love the little sack baby stretch when you pick them up under the arms. It's SO adorable 🥰
And how my LO's face completely lights up when she sees me! And chubby little fat rolls, the smell, the list goes on...

I currently have a 3mo and she's such an angel baby I'm already thinking of more (bearing in mind we're more than happy with two 😂😅)
Newborns are the easiest imo, it's one of like 5 things to help them with, my 2.5 yo is testing me so hard right now 😅

washingwakeup · 11/06/2022 20:02

When they lie down with their little arms stretched up and fists clenched, and they can barely reach the top of their heads.

This, so much. I've had three babies and at the time kind of hated this stage where they fall asleep and then you are pinned to the chair for fear of waking them. But now my youngest is 2.5 I miss this stage and am really nostalgic about it - the snugglieness of it all, oh it's wonderful. My youngest was born in the winter and I just remember us snuggled together while it was freezing outside, it was lovely.

Imohsotired · 11/06/2022 20:06

The way they sleep with their arms up over their head, the smell, the cuddles when they lie on your chest, the first smile and the smiles of recognition, breastfeeding, and the way they grasp your finger.

I have a two month old and treasuring all of the above!

Cattenberg · 11/06/2022 20:07

I love the newborn walking reflex. I remember a healthcare assistant holding DD upright on the scales for a moment, and she began marching on the spot. I’m sad she lost this reflex so quickly that I only saw it once.

I also love older babies’ look of concentration, such as when they’re “reading” a book.

Also, when DD stopped crying, sometimes there would be a pause, then she’d look aggrieved and say one last “wah”.

washingwakeup · 11/06/2022 20:08

Oh, and and when the baby feet/toes start getting chubby,

Hate feet on anyone over about 5yo otherwise!

Somethingsnappy · 11/06/2022 20:13

When you pick them up and they are just old enough to cling onto your clothes like little monkeys while you carry them about.....

Im always broody too, OP. I have 4 children. I have stopped now. But I'd always be broody for another.

Breastfeeding too, for me. And the way they shove their hand down your top for comfort 😁

Hugasauras · 11/06/2022 20:15

Kissing them on their fuzzy little heads.

The first time they smile/laugh.

The Moro reflex!

TiffanyIceberg · 11/06/2022 20:18

The first time they lift their arms up to be picked up.
The little sweaty nape of their neck when they sleep.
The cute little snorts and gurgles, and when they first realise they are making that noise.
The little starfish hands opening and closing.

anxiousatnight · 11/06/2022 20:18

When newborns sleep on you and their little bum is stuck up in the air because they're still a bit scrunched up.

thistimelastweek · 11/06/2022 20:19

Tiny newborns clasping their hands like they're praying.

PineappleSun · 11/06/2022 20:20

Mine has just started reaching his arms up to be picked up and crawling to me for a cuddle. It absolutely gets me every time, it feels I finally have proof that he knows who I am and loves me back 😫
