Things we love about babies

Ahh I'm SUCH a baby person 🥰 Constantly broody but at the same just love my two sweet boys ♥️I have a 5 and 2 year old. I felt like first time round I was quite overwhelmed but second time has just been so precious and calm. Mainly because I stopped listening to others and have done my thing I think!

Just thought I'd start a thread to share all our favourite baby-isms. I'll start -

The way they throw their arms and legs around when a newborn like crazy with no self awareness or purpose

When they start to recognise you

Multiple day naps

Breast feeding ♥️

Giggling at ridiculous things. Mine giggles at light fittings, he has a favourite one. Also, echoing pp, when they sleep all snuggled up like a little bean on you, or with their cheek against yours!

Awwww I love reading all the replies!

Also when they're just starting to hold things and they're just amazed at everything 🥺♥️

Aww thank you for this beautiful thread OP. I'm 6 weeks pregnant and feeling daunted but this has reminded me just how much I adored DS' babyhood, I'm really excited now ❤️

I see babies almost daily in my line of work and apart from the smell of my own babies - seeing the blissful, so content deep sleep of a baby in a pram snug as a bug get me - every - single -time

Whatelsecouldibecalled · 11/06/2022 20:58

The weight and warmth of them when snoozing on your chest

Can't wait to do this again in September!!!

FourTeaFallOut · 11/06/2022 20:59

Their tiny feet and impossibly tiny toes, squishy noses and 'don't-shoot' sleeping position.

Madamecastafiore · 11/06/2022 21:02

Eating their own toes. Just spent a pleasant tube journey playing peel a boo with an adorable baby who was chomping on her own toes ❤️

tobi21 · 11/06/2022 21:06

my boy has just started to clap and it's such a wonderful feeling

frazzled101 · 11/06/2022 21:09

I shouldn't be reading this as my 2nd baby is 7 mths and im trying to convince myself Im done but....

They way they babble to themselves as soon as they wake up

The absolute excitement when you go in to lift them from their cot

Baby smell and cuddles

Baby feet

When they're a newborn and sleep on your chest, bum in the air

Chubby arms and thighs

The way they stare up at you when they're being fed

I adore babies ❤️

I’m not a fan of the young baby stage but DD2 is 10mo and for the last couple of months has been adorably crawling over to me, holding up her arms to be picked up and then snuggling into my neck with a contented little noise.

DD1 was not a cuddler, except with DH, so I will stop whatever I am doing to enjoy these moments ❤️

MIL looks after them four days a week and by all accounts spends the entire six hours when DD1 is at preschool cuddling DD2!

grey12 · 11/06/2022 21:12

Their soft skin is an absolute blessing to touch ☺️

washingwakeup · 11/06/2022 20:02

When they lie down with their little arms stretched up and fists clenched, and they can barely reach the top of their heads.

DH loves that!!

Simonjt · 11/06/2022 21:14

I’m not a fan of other people babies, well to be honest they may as well be gremlins. But right now I’m having cuddles with a milk drunk little
lady who is clinging to my shirt and her little fat cheeks are squished into my chest. I’m missing a gig for this, and its worth every single second. A milk drunk baby cuddle is one of the best in the world, even if I am scared of moving in case she wakes up.

stickybear · 11/06/2022 21:21

Little pudgy hands resting on your top when they fall asleep mid-feed

milawops · 11/06/2022 21:23

minipie · 11/06/2022 19:39

They stay where you put them Grin for the first few months anyway!

I did not appreciate this until she started crawling. Now she's walking and I can't take my eyes off of her for a second. God I miss those days

ChocolateHippo · 11/06/2022 21:35

I love it when they're fighting sleep but their eyes are closing, closing, closing... and suddenly they're out for the count!

I used to really enjoy watching my stationary DC kicking the shit out of his baby gym. He was an early crawler, so the stationary phase went by much too fast!

And the way they grip your finger in an iron grip and won't let go.

My DC loved his baths as a baby (still does) and used to give these happy little sighs and squeaks when dipped in a warm bath.

Cattenberg · 11/06/2022 23:17

I also like a newborn’s expressions of surprise and puzzlement at the most mundane things, e.g. seeing streetlights, emptying their bowels or seeing their own hands waving about, “ooh, what are these?”

Cattenberg · 11/06/2022 23:33

They way they babble to themselves as soon as they wake up.

At about four months old, DD would wake up and babble to herself in vowel sounds, as though she was watching a firework display. “Ooh!, Ah!, Eh!” It was very cute.

At six months old, she was less cute as she went through a phase of grunting and growling at everyone. It was a bit embarrassing.

“Hello Kittenberg!”
“Humph, grrrrrrrr!”

lasttimeyoucalledon · 11/06/2022 23:37

My DD's little tanned arms and legs. So cute, she has rolls everywhere Smile

Their toothless grins

Flittingaboutagain · 11/06/2022 23:39

All of the above!

Especially breastfeeding faces and noises as they're falling asleep on the boob.

Also the excitement at finding a friend in the mirror for the first time and desperately trying to grab her friend's hands but they kept getting away! The world is full of wonder for them.

StillMedusa · 11/06/2022 23:46

I had four (cos I love babies) and now have a 13m old grandson...which is even more wonderful somehow!

Every new thing he discovers..his delight at every day things like birds in the garden, his giggles when the dog licks him, and best of all.. when he arrives (I looked after him several days a week) his arms out to me and his genuine happiness to be with me.

Babies are the best humans!

Bonjovispjs · 12/06/2022 00:44

The fact they can't answer you back yet😜

SunflowerGardens · 12/06/2022 00:55

That milky smell
When they're falling asleep they have a little noise it goes like [chug chug chug dummy] 'oya oya oya'

I know that sounds a bit stupid but if you know you know.

My 10 month old has just learned wave and say bye bye. She waves with her whole arm, for long periods of time!

Bloodybridget · 12/06/2022 00:59

In very young babies, how their facial expressions change constantly: a hundred reactions a minute. When they curl a hand round your finger. A baby catching your eye on a bus or in a supermarket queue and starting a dialogue of smiles and sounds and peek-a-boo.

frazzled101 · 12/06/2022 07:34

@Cattenberg I forgot about that one. My daughter is at the stage where she's amazed when she catches sight of her own hands and watches them intently!

She also is loving a good chew on her own foot.
