Is it worth going abroad for 3 nights?

Basically my partners parents had a short break for 3 nights
Monday-Thursday next week
Flying over to Gran Canaria at 10 am Monday and leaving Gran Canaria 5pm Thursday afternoon
They no longer can go due to ill health
They don't want any money from us and will pay the name change ..only thing is it's only bed and breakfast so we will need spending money for meals etc
Is it worth it ? For only 3 nights ?
It's around 4 hours and 30 min flight
I don't know what to do
Is it worth it?
Im off work next week and partner can get time off if we decide to go
Help ..shall we bother ?

oh god this sort of thing makes me despair for us and for our poor children - this sort of behaviour is frying the world.

how long until there's a sensible tax on flying?? First return flight free of tax. Second £100, third £200, fourth £400, fifth £800... that'd put paid to these ridiculous New York/Canaries/wherever for a weekend trips...

The card yes but not the taxi 🌞

MayMoveMayNot · 10/06/2022 19:35

Fuck yeah I'd go!

Only this afternoon I thought it would a nice idea to take DD to Paris for the day.

4 days in Gran Canaria for free? You'd see skid marks on my drive as I left 😁

I can’t believe you need to ask! Glad to read you’re going 😁

In January, I took my dad’s place on a trip to California with a week’s notice - granted it was for 2 weeks and still cost me a few quid but it was an incredible time. Dad was delighted because the trip wasn’t wasted - it was still £000s cheaper for me than booking it myself.

God forbid every day, hard working people get to explore the world a little...

My tip OP would be, whether your in laws had paid for hold luggage or not, go hand luggage only. Less time spent queueing at both ends then. Buy your sun tan lotion and after sun at the airport, and a bottle of shower gel.

I go to Madeira quite often Fri-Mon which is half an hour before Gran Canaria. The advantage of going south (more or less) rather than east or west is the time difference and jet lag implications - none of that stuff. I arrive in time for a quick change and a walk into town for dinner.
I have 3 lovely dinners in Funchal, at least two visits to places that restore my soul, and plenty of time by the pool. Very restorative.

CottonSock · 10/06/2022 19:56

I would book private transfers, it will be worth the extra for a short trip.

dustandroses · 10/06/2022 20:56

@MakingNBaking oh I’m going to Funchal in a couple of weeks first time, any tips 🌞

MakingNBaking · 11/06/2022 10:24

Funchal: eat out the food is amazing; only drink poncho if it's a easy walk home; take time to find a view (not hard at all) and sit and breathe (Nuns Valley is my no 1, go up the path from the car park as far as you can). Drive the Monte-Ribera Frio road on a misty morning, quite magical). And the local beer is quite palatable.
If you can't stand the thought of jumping into the sea from a pontoon, then there's a beach at Calheta.
