Pillows - at my wits end

I can't find a pillow that is comfortable and lasts. I now have about 10 pillows, can't bear to just throw them out after only a few months' use, but can't sleep on them either.
Real feathers are no good for me due to allergy / sensitivity, so is has to be synthetic. After a few months they are just flat and hard. If you wash them they are hopelessly ruined.

How long should a pillow last?

These are so great they are currently out of stock but I’m sure they’ll be back in: www.soakandsleep.com/supremely-soft-as-down-chamber-pillow-standard-medium-firm.html

Just to add - if you have loads of pillows, and you happen to be near a dog rescue centre like Dogs Trust, they take pillows and duvets to use for the pets bedding.

Most animal rescues don't because they can't be easily washed and then become a massive problem for them to dispose of.

I have arthritis in my neck so the right pillow is crucial.
I've tried paying a lot and the cheapest possible.
Paying £40+ for a pillow only to find you hate it is galling. I also have asthma so a pillow needs to be washable.
My solution is to buy the absolute cheapest and replace frequently.

I bought a pillow from brightrsleep after trying DHs. I had the best night's sleep with it. They do a quiz to find the best pillow and do a 30night money back trial if you are not happy.

I have two of these:
BedStory Gel & Copper Memory Foam... www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B093PZN5BY?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

They have a distinctive 'cooler side' too. Absolutely love them.

Seriously? I've been an avid Etsy shopper as I like the support a small business, buy local, etc ethos. But not now.

I’ve tried super cheap £6 pillows to ridiculous £150 ones and still can’t find one that stays comfortable. Currently using a £10 Wilko pillo which has been ok for a month and a half (new record!) but going lumpy now so the search resumes.
It’s so frustrating!

@xoxFulhamMUMMY I can't work out if you're taking the piss or not, should we be checking out equestrian suppliers?

Premier Inn pillows are the best I've had.

I bought these a year ago and they're so puffed up still. Almost too much as my ideal height would be if they sagged a little, but I can't complain about too much of a good thing!

Linseed pillows are terrific - mould to your head shape and really supportive

Kerrangutan · 11/06/2022 05:15

Dorma Like Down from Dunelm. They remind me of when you go to a nice hotel and the bedding is a bit crunchy (for want of a better term). Full and thick but mouldable but keep their shape. I'm positive I read about them on a MN thread discussing that hotel-feel bedding years ago and I've never considered changing since.

onlythreenow · 11/06/2022 05:40

I feel your pain OP. I also go through pillows at a great rate - in my case because I get a sore neck. The best ones have been latex, but even they give me a sore neck eventually. I'm sick of spending a fortune on pillows, and of course you can never tell how comfortable they are going to be until you've slept on them. If only I could find one which would last for several years!

Words · 11/06/2022 05:48

I'm the same, but can tolerate feathers.

I paid a fortune for a Simba. It was Ok, then even that went saggy and the zip went too. Currently got neck ache, so search resumes. I have feather and down at the moment from Bedeck. Have a wool duvet and a wool filled v shaped pillow and like both those, so maybe I should try that next.

Linseed? Off to investigate!

BuanoKubiamVej · 11/06/2022 06:22

I bought a side-sleeper pillow for £60 from a bed warehouse showroom and it's been wonderful. Many years later it is still very comfy. I always have terrible sleep when I go to hotels or stay with friends who have ordinary pillows but I am not quite eccentric enough to travel with my own pillow.

TheRoadToRuin · 11/06/2022 10:08

I have a "snow" pillow. No idea what's in it but it's like little balls, the contents shift so you can mould it and you can wash it at 6oC and it comes out perfect.
I like the sound of Flax or buckwheat pillows as they could be similar but having looked at some after reading this thread you can't wash them so that's no good.

I am not quite eccentric enough to travel with my own pillow. If I'm going in the car in the UK I do take my own. Blush
