So they took it to a neighbour!!!! At 7.00 am. I don’t wake up until about 7.45am. How was l supposed to read the text.?

Ive had to take chocolates to neighbour. Is this normal for DPD?🤪

I would have taken in the parcel for you had I been up and about at 7am as some people are. The driver should not have knocked on their door at 7am unless say they were clothed and obvious such as in the garden or starting the car. I probably wouldn't open the door to take one in before 7am or in the dark before at least 8am for safety reasons whether it turns out to be for me but isn't scheduled in advance or not for me. But I'm generally either asleep or performing my ablutions or otherwise not dressed until at least 9am if I am not specifically expecting something and I don't answer the door then at all.

I think, if you’re going to be their first deliveries of the day, they should set your delivery window notification the night before. Yes indeed they should. When we had a washing machine coming in a slot that started at 7am, and do bear in mind that we knew this while the OP did not about her parcel, we got both a text the night before to tell an approximate time within the slot and then another text with a more specific time a bit beforehand as they were on their way from their previous delivery.

GreenWheat · 10/06/2022 05:10

This is such a non-issue. Delivery arrives, you are home but don't hear the door, neighbour takes in parcel for you. The end. Yeah probably in an ideal world they would text the night before but that's not always possible with parcel volumes these days. But honestly, there is no drama here.

balalake · 10/06/2022 07:04

7am delivery reasonable. Not telling you until 20 minutes before, unreasonable.

The race to the bottom for parcel deliveries is something where the government could intervene and pass simple legislation to benefit everyone. Such as one where you have to be told of the parcel carrier when you order online.

I'm confused by why people are equating the OP not hearing the delivery/sleeping through it with laziness?

I agree. This isn't about laziness. The OP wasn't told the day before that the courier would be arriving the next day at 7am.

NoSquirrels · 10/06/2022 07:12

If you ordered something, and it’s with DPD for delivery, you can check its order status. That would have told you it was scheduled for delivery in a 7-7 slot on a particular day. Then you might have woken up earlier

Or you might not. No biggie.

I think you’re unreasonable to say the entire onus for this is on the delivery firm to inform you at a time convenient to you. They texted you pre-delivery and delivered the item. That’s their job done.

If you order something, check when it’s coming.

But this isn't possible with parcel deliveries as they are not received into the depot until 4-5am. They then have to be scanned and assigned to a route, which will have around 100 parcels on it, after all the parcels are scanned onto the route, a computer THEN assigns them into drop order based on logistics. So until that happens (typically around 6am) no one can be texted a delivery slot time,
With big goods such as washing machines they come from a warehouse with its own in house delivery team, who have a set amount of delivery slots per day. The van/lorry will be loaded the night before, and drop order set and customers notified, ready for the driver to just come into work and go on his way.
They are two completely different delivery systems.
Everyone wants their parcels delivered ASAP, next day delivery etc, without realising the organisation and logistics it takes to make that happen.

This is fairly normal from DPD and also Royal Mail. I had a DPD driver apologise for waking me up once at 7am at the weekend, he seemed embarrassed.

Ive said before there was NO prior notice. The fist thing l knew was the card on the mat. Also this isn’t AIBU.

I'm just a bit jealous you don't have to be awake at 7 in the week?? Do you not have to be up for work / school run/ similar?

To answer the question though, I suppose it's on the early side for a delivery but not unheard of, alot of companies seen say 7-7 or 8-8.

I didn’t say you were unreasonable?

I just said if you order something- so you know it’s coming sometime - you can check where it’s at in the delivery process - at the distribution centre, at the local hub etc. That gives you a chance to anticipate approximately when it’s going to be delivered.

I don’t think DPD did anything wrong.
I don’t think you did anything wrong either!

You ordered a thing. They delivered a thing.

xxxGirlCrushxxx · 10/06/2022 10:41

7am isn't really early or anything though is it?

NoSquirrels · 10/06/2022 10:41

oops - sorry @ArseInTheCoOpWindow I did actually say you were unreasonable. My bad. Sorry! I’m having an annoying morning being annoyed about things clearly.

Anyway, I still don’t think DPD did anything wrong. Nor do I think you did anything wrong.

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 10/06/2022 10:42

I work very near where l live.

DD’s school doesn’t start until 9:15 and that’s a five minute walk. So no one surfaced early in our house.
