If your child has cold symptoms, are you still covid testing them?

Still testing using lft's or not? Testing is traumatic for Ds. He is autistic and has sensory issues. If he was ill before it took of us holding him arms and legs down and doing it. I don't want to go back to that.

he has had covid before, but I know he can have it again of course.

he has cold symptoms. Bunged up, sore throat etc. I know covid can present this way.

but are you testing every time your kids have cold symptoms?

tia ☺️

Not unless we really need to know eg hospital appointment, visit to CEV grandmother.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 07/06/2022 12:57

Nope. DS has a cough currently. Not testing.

Cornettoninja · 07/06/2022 12:58

No. I’m testing for access to places like nursing homes but that’s pretty much it.

I would test for a more flu like illness though.

Nope, absolutely not!!

With those symptoms, I'd assume hayfever at this time of year before I thought of covid. I'd give him piriton and see if that offers any relief.

Thank you. Fortunately he is not a hayfever sufferer and never has been. My youngest on the other hand does suffer quite severely with it, so if she's snotty my go to is an antihistamine!

No. Following the advice on NHS and there's no mention of testing.

SwimmingWithARockStar · 07/06/2022 13:18

My kids are as we have a friend that is vulnerable. We all test once a week before she visits.

MrsVeryTired · 07/06/2022 13:21

Not at all.
Probably would if had temperature/cough/loss of taste or smell but not cold symptoms.

Thanks. I'm so out of touch with the guidance. The last time any of us were ill, we actually all had covid and 10 days isolation was mandatory still!

Nah, no testing here unless we have to.

Herejustforthisone · 07/06/2022 13:41

I literally give it no thought anymore.

PistachiokindaBear · 07/06/2022 13:43

Is covid even still a thing?

DSGR · 07/06/2022 13:44

No of course not

ZoyaTheDestroyer · 07/06/2022 13:56

Guidance is not to test children unless advised by a doctor.

MintJulia · 07/06/2022 14:03

Yes. we have lfts at home, it seems foolish not to use them.

Other dcs are taking exams at the moment so if my dc is sick (he doesn't get hay fever) I'll test and keep him at home out of courtesy.

No way, not unless our childminder insists it. The madness needs to end

Such a self centred viewpoint. No thought for the millions of vulnerable people who might be seriously ill if they catch your Covid.

ifonly4 · 07/06/2022 14:32

Our local school is asking you keep them off if they have cold symptoms, so no need to test for school reasons, so it'd only be if you were taking them to public places.

EveryFlightBeginsWithAFall · 07/06/2022 14:33

They haven't been ill for a while but no, don't think I'd test them

Cheesechips · 07/06/2022 14:35

@DangerouslyBored are you going to pay my bills for missed time off work due to isolation? Newer strains of Covid are often very mild even for the more vulnerable.

BangingOn · 07/06/2022 14:38

I didn’t think that LFTs were still freely available?

Fuzzy303 · 07/06/2022 14:41

yes, absolutely

MarmiteOnToast · 07/06/2022 14:41

No! I refuse to pay for tests

UsernameIsNotAvailableRightNow · 07/06/2022 14:47

My autistic son couldn't stand the tests either. We found however that getting him to blow his nose and then swabbing the tissue works the same. When he had covid it picked it up really quickly.

We aren't testing now though. I'd only test if he was really really unwell.
