If your child has cold symptoms, are you still covid testing them?

Still testing using lft's or not? Testing is traumatic for Ds. He is autistic and has sensory issues. If he was ill before it took of us holding him arms and legs down and doing it. I don't want to go back to that.

he has had covid before, but I know he can have it again of course.

he has cold symptoms. Bunged up, sore throat etc. I know covid can present this way.

but are you testing every time your kids have cold symptoms?

tia ☺️

Yes but not regularly and only because I still have some left. DD had similar symptoms to when we had Covid in November. I tested her and it came up positive straight away. School have asked to keep her off for 3 days, longer if she still has a temperature. The advice is that we just have to live with it, but knowing we're staying at home and not passing it on to vulnerable people makes me feel like we're doing the right thing.

I think the official guidance is now not to test under 18s even with symptoms? Just keep them off school if they’re too ill to go (as before) and send them in otherwise.

We are, but we have reason to with my youngest’s health.

No. We would only test if we were about to visits someone vulnerable, but in all honesty it’s more likely that we just wouldn’t visit at all as a cold can be pretty bad if you’re very elderly or unwell too. We just do what we did before, which is to stay home if we’re too ill to be out, with the additional precaution of wearing a mask if we absolutely have to go somewhere (like to a good shop).

Such a self centred viewpoint. No thought for the millions of vulnerable people who might be seriously ill if they catch your Covid.

.....or for the millions of vulnerable people who might be seriously ill if they catch your flu or your 'common cold'.......which there is not, and never has been any 'testing' for. If your 'ill' then just use your common sense and stay away from vulnerable people......just like most people have done for most of their lives!! Surely most people don't need a test to decide if there ill or not!?

No I stopped when the guidance changed to stop. DD2 is a toddler with near constant colds and it was so distressing for her.

I test twice weekly still for work.

Thanks all. He's off school as he's congested and off his food - which is common for him when he has a cold! He doesn't eat much at the best of times.

we aren't planning to spread whatever it is to anyone! We used to stay away from anyone vulnerable with illnesses even before covid ☺️

i am not keen on buying lft's now either. If I had to, I would but not keen 😅 I do however still have some which won't last long!
