Just wondering if you managed to get 10,000 steps in every day? I've been going out every day walking for what seems miles and I just keep doing around 7000! Anyone else struggle to get them in. I don't know how much further I can walk !!!

My job is very sedentary but DH and I try to walk about 8km/5 miles per day.
Yesterday I did about that, my total distance for the day was estimated at just over 10km, 14,000 steps. That seems about what I do on days when we walk; if we don't then I'll typically only log ~4000 steps.

Not very often OP I have to walk for over 90 mins to do 10,000 steps. I'm tall and therefore have a long stride.

I'm really confused now about if my Fitbit is accurate or not! I'm on my feet all day as a teacher going from classroom to classroom, up and down stairs, and walk everywhere because I don't drive. Yet I rarely meet 10,000 steps, usually average around 7000. I only meet 10,000 if I do an extra 1hour+ walk. The most I've ever reached is 20k when I walked around sightseeing on foot in london all day!
I'm baffled how people are doing 15k+ daily! Is it to do with different sensors, or is it to do with stride length? I have quite long legs so does that mean I am taking fewer steps for the same distance? I remember trying to work this out with a friend once because we both spent all day together walking the same places, yet our two trackers were thousands different.

DH usually registers slightly more distance than me even when we're using GPS on a 'proper walk'. I've not compared his 'step count'. I suspect his will tend to be significantly higher because we both wear our watches on our left wrist but I'm right handed and he's left handed. His will register that he's doing exercise when he's chopping up food! Sometimes I put mine on my right wrist if I'm doing a huge pile of ironing.Grin

Savedbythebell - I don’t know tbh. But I do know I’ve had various fitness watches (Fitbit and 2x Garmin) and I’m consistent across the board in terms of daily step count.
my day starts at 6am and we don’t eat until 8pm then by the time I’ve cleared up and sat down it’s about 9:15.
I rarely stop in that time tbh and if I’ve got half an hour, I will exercise rather than chill.

im consistently 15k and up to around 20k on a busier day.
even with Covid I was doing about 7/8k

If I make the effort then I do (today I've done almost 15k) but it's very conscious. I make sure I walk the long way / go to the shops furthest away / pop out a few times during the day.

I'd be interested if anyone has any ideas about the Fitbit arm thing !

I've got an Apple Watch, it definitely uses arm swings as a proxy for steps. The distances I record for my distance challenge are from proper walks with the walking or hiking app on which measure the actual distance by gps.
The watch setup advised that if you're doing something like walking pushing a pram then best to put the walking app on as you won't be swinging your arms. It also uses arm swings as a proxy for standing - quite annoying to have been doing jobs moving around the house carrying things but then it nags me to stand up for the required minute per hour.Hmm

I've got a Fitbit Charge 5 .
I'm not at work this week . When I'm back in I'm going to have the internal GPS on and set the watch to walking and see if that makes a difference .
I've been out most of the day today and have registered 15,447 steps , 6.35 miles . That feels about right .

"I use an app on my phone but obviously don't have that on me at all times ao maybe I need to get a watch!
But like a pp said maybe I don't need to be worried about hitting the 10,000 but just keep being active!!"

I've found the watch really useful. I definitely find my zone minutes, and recorded exercises, a better indicator than just steps.
