How Was Your Jubilee?

I feel a bit deflated as we didn’t really do anything. Admittedly we had some plans but I wasn’t well for part of the long weekend & had to cancel a picnic with DH & a meet up with a friend I haven’t seen for ages. I felt so envious looking at tv footage of all the street parties etc. We only know most of our neighbours by sight. We know the names of our immediate neighbours but haven’t got past the pleasantries stage. Plus the guy is a miserable bugger & blanks us! What did you all do to mark this historic event?

Absolutely nothing. I didn't even put live TV on.

On the pmys side, because I worked in Thursday, I get an extra day in lieu.

I enjoyed mine, I attended a couple of local community events, baked and donated cakes for an old folks tea party and we had a very informal street party with neighbours ... took no effort to organise bar setting up a couple of tables and sharing picnic food and wine. Plus I genuinely enjoy watching all the tv coverage.

orwellwasright · 06/06/2022 10:34

I was so over it by Sunday. It just felt like that shit bit between Christmas and New Year.

PennineWayinSlingbacks · 06/06/2022 10:40

Loved it! Community exhibition, tea parties, concert, barbeques - brilliant atmosphere locally in our villages. Something to be proud of.
Amazing beacon lighting - quite magical.

Mainly lonely, both kids have been under the weather meaning we didn't venture far from home so I haven't really seen or spoken to anyone over the very long weekend. I spent most nights trying to settle the 2 year old's asthma type cough so I am shattered, luckily Ventolin brings good relief. We did venture out to see the vintage cars in the village where the Biggest Small person spent 20 minutes admiring the wheels of a vintage tractor and yesterday we made it to the park where he literally danced in puddles. I had really been looking forward to a long weekend of celebrations as DH loved them but it wasn't to be.

blackheartsgirl · 06/06/2022 10:53

I really was not in the party mood, the only thing I was invited to was cancelled.

we went to a local beacon lighting, that was lovely, simple ceremony and quite patriotic but in a nice way.

my neighbours had a garden party with thier family on the fri and I felt very sad listening to them as my late dh would have been in the garden doing the same so me and one of my dds went for a walk to a country park on top of a very big hill and sat there looking at the views for an hour before coming home

didnt watch the concert nor anything else

Antarcticant · 06/06/2022 10:58

Good - went to three local events over the four days, plus watched the party and the pageant on TV.

Feel a bit deflated now - worse than normal Monday blues.

LindaEllen · 06/06/2022 11:06

I was looking forward to the four day weekend to recharge my batteries, but ended up so busy that work today is more like a holiday than the weekend was. 2 meals out, a bbq, a concert, a party at the neighbours'.

AnneLovesGilbert · 06/06/2022 11:08

Absolutely amazing!

I’m sorry you’ve been poorly, we had that for weeks on end before the jubilee and it sucks.

stargirl1701 · 06/06/2022 11:10

It just do lovely. It reminded me of the 2012 Olympic feeling.

We attended the local beacon, the street party, a garden party and an afternoon tea. We borrowed lots of Queen related stories from the library for bedtime. We watched Trooping the Colour and the Paddington scene many times!

Just lovely.

The last Jubilee I was single so I sat in front of the tv and watched all the coverage, got loads of Jubilee themed food from the shops and bought a few souvenir items. Thoroughly enjoyed it.

This time I live with DP, we have two young DC and DP can't stand anything to do with the royals (despite his DM and SIL being very patriotic, SIL went down to London just to stand on the streets and be part of it). The weather was hot and sunny where we live and DP just wanted to go to the beach and park and ignore the jubilee so it hasn't been much fun this time, I feel like I've missed out and there will not be another jubilee.

There was a jubilee picnic at DS school on Thursday which was good. Watched the pageant yesterday but only because DS fell asleep on me on the sofa so DP had to amuse himself on the computer in the office. Been watching bits of Saturday's concert on iplayer when I get the tv to myself.

blobby10 · 06/06/2022 11:21

I thoroughly enjoyed watching all the pomp and ceremony of the Trooping of the Colour on TV - didn't bother with the service at St Pauls - cringed at the concert on Saturday night (apparently it sounded better in real life) and wasn't going to watch the pageant on Sunday but it was raining and cold and I was fed up so the TV went on and I loved it in the end! Had no interest in going to any street parties or fireworks displays or beacon lightings cos I'm a grumpy old woman these days but loved seeing the news reports from around the country of street parties and celebrations.

DisgruntledPelican · 06/06/2022 11:24

Went for long lovely walks in the countryside, gardening, and a bike ride. Watched some of the Saturday night concert thing but switched it off early. No street parties near me, although a fair amount of bunting.

WakeWaterWalk · 06/06/2022 11:24

Quiet, which was fine.

caringcarer · 06/06/2022 11:25

I had BBQ in garden Friday and even though it was forcast with showers they held off. I had my bunting up and balloons. On Saturday went to watch a cricket match. Again they had a bit of bunting up. Sunday watched events on TV. Loved the Paddington skit. Huge numbers of very diverse crowds stretching up the Mall as far as eye could see. Loved the parade.

Jalisco · 06/06/2022 11:25

It was wonderful. I arrived back in the country on Thursday morning to totally empty roads from the airport. There were no street parties. There were plenty of channels not showing anything about the Royals. And my dog was keen to catch up on games of frisbee. Great long weekend!

WakeWaterWalk · 06/06/2022 11:25

Sorry you weren't well op.

Fairnair · 06/06/2022 11:37

It was quiet, just watched a little bit of live coverage of Trooping the Colour & the fly past on Thursday. Enjoyed the concert on Sat evening, & watched the whole of the People pageant.

Husband and I had our own “big lunch” of coronation chicken, salad, prawns, olives, pork pie, sausage rolls, followed by scones jam & cream.

There were no local organised Jubilee events, town did not even have any bunting up.

Fairnair · 06/06/2022 11:44

Oh & just made outside our front door prettier with some red, white & blue flowering plants (plus pink & purple), which I was going to do anyway.

peachescariad · 06/06/2022 11:45

Brilliant - FiL was invited to light beacon on Thursday, great street party Friday and everyone made an effort with flags and bunting etc.
Watched the phenomenal Trooping of the Colour, St Paul's etc.
Village organised a big park party Sunday.
Loved every minute.
Proud of our Queen and her 70 years.

WeAllHaveWings · 06/06/2022 11:52

I saw snippets on social media of -

Louis being cheeky
Louis on the balcony
The queen and Paddington bear

All of which were amusing/cute, otherwise it happily passed me (and as far as I saw, my whole town) by completely. We got Thursday/Friday as floating days so I worked them and will take during the summer.

ds was working both afternoons/nights delivering Dominos and he never saw any signs of Jubilee celebrations either.

Kite22 · 06/06/2022 12:15

I felt so envious looking at tv footage of all the street parties etc. We only know most of our neighbours by sight. We know the names of our immediate neighbours but haven’t got past the pleasantries stage.

It is in arranging something like this, that you get to know the neighbours better though.

MercurialMonday · 06/06/2022 12:17

We only saw youtube news summaries and odd TV new bullent of Jubliee events - seemed like people had fun.

We did family trip out one day - not related to Jubliee that was nice spotted odd banner and bunting on nice long sunny walk back.

Made some Jubilee related food with one teen for Sunday - had wanted to do picnic outside but ended up inside and was really an alternative to our usual sunday family roast meal but was a nice change.

Also spent fair bit of 4 days getting one child on track with revision for upcoming exams - as they were in it's too much work no point starting mode.

Watched a street nearby get set up for a street party unfortunately we'd had great weather all four days till that point - it was then heavy rain.

Quiet but overall nice.

elastamum · 06/06/2022 12:20

I think we may have over partied. All our adult children and their friends came to stay Live music. 3 days of about 40 people camping out in the house and garden. Fantastic fun, but I now have about 2 week's worth of clearing up to do.
