How Was Your Jubilee?

I feel a bit deflated as we didn’t really do anything. Admittedly we had some plans but I wasn’t well for part of the long weekend & had to cancel a picnic with DH & a meet up with a friend I haven’t seen for ages. I felt so envious looking at tv footage of all the street parties etc. We only know most of our neighbours by sight. We know the names of our immediate neighbours but haven’t got past the pleasantries stage. Plus the guy is a miserable bugger & blanks us! What did you all do to mark this historic event?

Nought. Didn't watch any of it or celebrate at all.

I did enjoy the shops being so quiet as my toddler could run around and burn out all her excess energy!

StarDolphins · 06/06/2022 12:36

Absolutely nothing Jubilee related at all on the whole of my estate! I like the Queen/Royal family but just wasn’t interested in celebrating it & just enjoyed the extra days off!

AuntieMarys · 06/06/2022 12:37

Totally ignored it. No BBC for 4 days. Had a great time

CharSiu · 06/06/2022 13:36

Went to a beacon lighting with DH. Had a friend round for afternoon tea and we went for a lovely lakeside walk, friends round for a BBQ. Watched the concert and procession on tv and really enjoyed them. Also made the jubilee trifle for the BBQ which everyone loved. Went for a walk round a village not far us that had a lovely floral and knitted displays.

BatshitCrazyWoman · 06/06/2022 13:40

Brilliant, I was away for the weekend, and barely noticed anything going on, which was exactly how I wanted it. Not a fan of the monarchy.

garlictwist · 06/06/2022 14:26

I didn't know anyone that was doing anything "Jubillee-ey", no street parties etc round here.

I went cycling and camping for a few days with DP. It was very grey and cold but nice to have the time off work.

GrowThroughWhatYouGoThrough · 06/06/2022 14:35

I had one dog having an overnight stay in the emergency vets whilst I was feeding 7 4 day old pups it was exhausting

PeggyLeggy · 06/06/2022 14:45

I worked all weekend but I loved it. DS had a tea party at school then we had afternoon tea with my mum, everyone brought cake, sandwiches etc in to work and we had our own little jubilee party then I went to a bbq after work which was so much fun and with people I haven’t seen since before Covid. Then we snuggled up and watched the concert. I loved the atmosphere though and how involved a lot of people were

I was so over it by Sunday. It just felt like that shit bit between Christmas and New Year.

Yes, that’s exactly what it felt like. Thank god it’s over!

midsomermurderess · 06/06/2022 14:48

It was lovely. Swimming in Lake Garda.

Zippidy123 · 06/06/2022 14:51

I know how you feel OP, I've spent many times under the weather feeling like the only person on the planet not out having fun , 'making memories'. I dont think some of these replies you've been getting will be helping much! Just know that you won't have been the only person who feels like that. We just stayed at home and watched it all on the TV which I really enjoyed but I'm a home body, it's my favourite place to be!

JemimaPuddlegoose · 06/06/2022 15:03

I was in France working, but would have ignored the whole thing if I'd been home.

Tinytablecloth · 06/06/2022 20:01

I live in a small cul-de-sac one of the neighbours decided on a Jubilee party and I was quite looking forward to it, but knew it might be difficult due to one of neighbours not talking to me since I moved in 20 years ago. As I took my cake to the table another neighbour gave me a filthy look and then stared at my cake in a disaproving manner. I then saw the neighbour who doesn't talk to me chatting to somebody else who gave me a glare strange because I'd only been talking to her a few days earlier and all seemed well. I sat down for a few minutes but felt so uncomfortable I went back indoors and watched the Jubilee events on TV. I know I'm not alone in having problems with one of the neighbours as I was told someone else had similar experience, all in all I felt pretty upset , what a life ! Cant wait for the next one!

Inkanta · 06/06/2022 20:20

Ahh Tinytablecloth that wasn't nice. 😔

Antarcticant · 06/06/2022 20:30

Cant wait for the next one!

We will wait a long time, unless the Queen reaches the age of 106.

However, unless there is a republican revolution, it's certain that by this time in 2032 we will either have had an 'Oak' Jubilee for the Queen or a Coronation for the new monarch. I would imagine there will be street parties galore for a Coronation!

Photoframe4 · 06/06/2022 21:10

My dad always said that although people were generally poorer years ago he thought that they were happier. I know people have it hard today especially right now not diminishing that at all. I was looking at his photo of the street party for the Coronation of George V1 in 1937 and it was a delight to see the sheer happiness on the childrens and adults faces although obviously very poor.

stargirl1701 · 07/06/2022 17:35

We could celebrate 75 years on the throne next time rather than 80.

FreezyFreezy · 07/06/2022 18:51

I went to a picnic at my sister's house (me, my sister, our mum, my sister's grown up children, and 2 of her work friends) on the Thursday.

My sister, our mum, and my children went to the seaside on the Friday and had a picnic there.

Other than that, we didn't do anything.

lollipoprainbow · 07/06/2022 18:55

Really lovely and I felt very flat yesterday !! My mums care home had a lovely party on Thursday and it was great to see all the other relatives. We went to to London on Saturday evening to soak up the atmosphere and watch the concert on screens down the mall. Watched the pageant on Sunday and thoroughly enjoyed it.

The Queen needs to reign for approx another two years to break the record as longest serving monarch ever. She's days away from second place to (I think) a Thai king, but Louis XIV is about two years ahead (he became king at the age of 4 so had something of an advantage!). We could celebrate that if it happens!

50isthenew20 · 07/06/2022 18:58

Well, seems all the Union Jack dresses and scarves are being returned. So maybe there are plenty of people who didn't have the party they expected?

I would have enjoyed a street party. Would have organised one for our street, but too many commitments. We did some bits and pieces to mark it. I was more concerned that kids had something to look back on and remember the same way i look back on the silver jubilee.

Seeing The Queen on Sunday was wonderful. She clearly was delighted and almost overcome with emotion. That was wonderful. However, 4 days of events.... and could we have a Friday and a Monday maybe next time please, and not over half term?

I think rain might have done for some of them. We went to a 'Big Jubilee Lunch' on Sunday and just about managed to eat our picnic before it started pelting down - we beat a retreat to watch the Pageant on telly!

Also, could be CFs 'buying' them to wear once and then returning.
