What (if any) food would you like to be fed at a children’s afternoon party?

Hi all,

It’s my first time throwing a children’s party in a few weeks. It’s being held between half 2 and half 4 in the afternoon. I’m doing some light food boxes for the children as the party isn’t across a mealtime.

I’m looking for a consensus as to what (if any) food should be provided for the adults in attendance? I’m fully stocked on drinks (water, coke, lemonade, tea, coffee and a little sangria each).

Ideas all welcome please,

thank you

A plate of biscuits/ cakes and some crisps

Neolara · 05/06/2022 17:41

A slice of birthday cake and some crisps?

PuffyMcPuffFace · 05/06/2022 17:42

Cheese and French bread always goes down a treat!

Hummingbirdcake · 05/06/2022 17:42

Nice crisps, little cakes or biscuits. Olives.

HairyScaryMonster · 05/06/2022 17:42

Biscuits and crisps are the norm where ive been. Personally being on a diet I'd love some strawberries but certainly not expected.

PuffyMcPuffFace · 05/06/2022 17:42

(But I wouldn't personally expect anything - it's just a welcome bonus if there is good for adults!)

Any and all picnicky bits plus some lovely salads if the weather is nice; couscous, potato salad, orzo or pasta salad. Charcuterie and cheeses. Finger sandwiches. Just give me anything in buffet form and I'll take it 😂

I find crisps, baguette, platter of meats & cheeses & some dip/crudités is scoffed

MagicTurtle · 05/06/2022 17:43

Just a slice of birthday cake for me please!

That would be a lovely lunch, but it's a bit too much for a mid-afternoon snack
Crisps and biscuits please OP 🍪

Is it a party for your friends and their dc or a load of your dc's friends? If it's class mates etc you don't need to provide food for parents. Tea and coffee is fine.

JudgeRindersMinder · 05/06/2022 17:54

Don’t put yourself under pressure to provide food for adults-it’s never ever been a thing at any party my kids have been at and they’re 20 and 25 now. The party is for the kids not the adults <grinch>

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 05/06/2022 17:54

Party Rings
Crisps
Jam Pennies
Birthday cake

EnglishGirlApproximately · 05/06/2022 17:56

I've obviously been going to the wrong parties for the last ten years, in my experience the parents just hoover up the nuggets/Crisps/cakes the kids don't eat. If it's a party where the adults are just there as escorts for the kids then don't over think it as it's not expected. If its a party where adults have specifically been invited I'd be buying ready made mezze/tapas stuff from a supermarket.

NerrSnerr · 05/06/2022 17:57

At the children's parties around here they don't cater for adults. Adults tend to eat the leftover party rings and crisps.

Basilandparsleyandmint · 05/06/2022 18:01

my children are a bit older but some parents only did adult buffets when children were in reception or possibly year 1 and if party fell across a lunch slot.
Most parties I attended, the children ate very little and we parents enjoyed the untouched leftovers !

A cup of tea / coffee and a biscuit/pastry is always welcome.

restedbutexhausted · 05/06/2022 18:07

I definitely went overboard with the suggestions! 🤣 what can I say, I'm definitely an overly generous host 😂🥴

Svara · 05/06/2022 18:14

I wouldn't expect anything as it's between mealtimes and only two hours. Things left out to make a tea or coffee and a slice of birthday cake would be plenty.

TheYearOfSmallThings · 05/06/2022 18:20

Tea and biscuits for me. Crisps or cheese straws for those without a sweet tooth.

Chakraleaf · 05/06/2022 18:24

Cut up grapes and orange

purplecorkheart · 05/06/2022 18:39

Crisps, pretzels or something similar.

AdaColeman · 05/06/2022 18:56

If it's actually a party for the children, you should just provide tea and biscuits for any adults. Cheese boards and platters of charcuterie for the adults are completely unnecessary, especially considering your mid afternoon time frame.

YetAnotherWalk · 05/06/2022 18:58

A packet or two of biscuits and some crisps would be very kind but nothing would be expected.

nearlyspringyay · 05/06/2022 18:59

Wouldn't expect anything but a samosa always goes down well!

TheWayTheLightFalls · 05/06/2022 19:03

Cut up grapes and orange

😆

OP, anything and nothing is fine - from adults hoovering up whatever the kids leave through an extra tray of biscuits and coffee through a full canapéd lunch. Whatever. Personally coffee and biscuits would do me fine at that sort of time. When I’ve done kids’ parties over mealtimes I often order in a few trays of sarnies , soft drinks and even fizz but that’s down to my preference.
