He gave me the 'third' cup. Should I LTB?

Disclaimer: Lighthearted

DH made me a post dinner cup of tea as he always does but he gave me it in the third best cup when the two better cups were clean and in the cupboard right beside cup three. He knows my preferences. What is going on here? Should I LTB for this flagrant breach of cup etiquette?

Definitely LTB, and take all three cups with you.

FitAt50 · 02/06/2022 17:56

I feel his pain. My husband has 4 cups and I have to ensure to serve him in the right one. 1 is for earl grey only, 1 is for coffee, 1 for morning tea and 1 for 9pm tea - Yes it has to be served at 9pm.

UrsulaPandress · 02/06/2022 17:56

I’m sorry but that is so so wrong in every way.

LTB

This seems perfectly reasonable to me. I have a preference for three different types of cups in which I will drink instant coffee, filter coffee and Nespresso coffee. This is right and proper.

I thought you were talking about tea.

tea is important

I am talking about tea. I got sidetracked by the coffee issue. That is, I realise now, is a complete separate issue. Tea is very important and needs to be discussed without being sullied by coffee. This is why I have so many different cups with different levels of bestness.

Think you've got issues? Mine used the wrong tea pot for the type of tea that goes in it. I was appalled.

Hallyup89 · 02/06/2022 18:23

Make your own tea next time.

This is weird. I have preferred cups but I don't put demands on others for it!

OurChristmasMiracle · 02/06/2022 18:35

I mean the mere fact he doesn’t know which cup shows that he can’t know you at all! I would seriously consider whether I could continue to allow him to make cups of tea! He should be ashamed of himself and his lack of cup etiquette. Definitely back to finishing school for him!

curlyhairmare · 02/06/2022 18:38

yanbu. We like mugs, we have a big collection with personal ones each, plenty of mine to chose from yet yesterday I was given a drink in a really ugly duck cup and although I know logically it doesn’t matter, I was really disappointed and I can’t explain why.

Mount2Climb · 02/06/2022 18:41

cherchez la femme op.

Stegosaurusesrock · 02/06/2022 18:48

Definitely LTB. I have preferred cups and like them used in pairs. If DH isn't WFH I make his home from work cuppa in the matching one to mine.

UrsulaPandress · 02/06/2022 18:50

Phew.

Penguinsaregreat · 02/06/2022 18:52

Absolutely LTB but first make sure you smash the 3rd cup over his head.

Sprogonthetyne · 02/06/2022 18:53

My monster of a DH let my DC choose mug to buy me (they're toddlers/ younger child). It's very sweet, and of course I love it, but it's also terrible for actual drinking tea from, the wrong shape and much lower capacity than my preferred one. So now I get stuck with it all the time because it's "mummy's favourite".

PetersRabbitt · 02/06/2022 18:53

His really messed up there!! LTB
The actions of this man are unforgivable…everyone knows yea tastes best in the favourite cup!!

wetpebbles · 02/06/2022 19:33

It was my birthday recently and I got 3 new horrible mugs which are now sitting in my cupboard mocking me

merryhouse · 02/06/2022 22:06

Sheesh, that's nothing. My husband
(a) complains every time I buy myself a mug ("we've got mugs")
(b) frequently adopts MY mugs that I bought for ME to use
(bii) actually took one of them to work - I only discovered where it was gone about 5 years later when he left and brought it home
(c) complains when I use MY mug that I bought for ME to use because "it's [his] milk mugSad"

QOD · 02/06/2022 22:07

How absolutely bloody ridiculous

i only drink tea from large mugs unless I want a small mug … but never a standard mug

we are fricking weird

Save it for "best".

I have mugs with hearts on for coffee, the diamond ones are for tea. I hate having to go to my red mugs, they're rubbish.

iklboo · 02/06/2022 22:51

This is why we all have our own distinctive cups.

ChiefWiggumsBoy · 02/06/2022 23:03

Quite frankly, on this weekend of our good Queen’s Jubilee, he should be taken to the tower for this.

TheGriffle · 02/06/2022 23:07

I have a random mug collection. I love a good mug. I have mugs that I don’t like to use but are fine for other people. Dh usually makes me a brew in the mugs I don’t like. Sometimes on purpose. He knows which ones I prefer.

I think we both need the LTB’s.
