A name for a man equivalent to calling a woman darling

I hate being called darling by people when out and about. Usually men. Instead of starting a scene I want to respond with a name of my own and if they object I'd say well you called me darling. What name though? Flower? Sweet cheeks? My little fairy cake?

Darling right back, it's not gender-specific.

How about Honeybuns? You could pair it with a cheeky arse slap

“My sweetness”, in a very condescending tone

I had a manager who used to always say, "thanks babe" and had the nerve to reprimand me for being inappropriate when I replied once with, "youre welcome darling".

I was young but he wasn't much older, about 5 years. He did stop once I "innocently" said I thought that was the work culture...

Discovereads · 02/06/2022 16:05

The counterpart to “darling” is “mate”
Man pulling me a pint at the pub “Here you go my darling”
Me “thanks mate”

It all depends on context as to whether I’d get annoyed or not.

Sugarballs
Sweetdick
Honeybuns

BigFatLiar · 02/06/2022 16:27

Depends where you are but terms like 'darling' 'love' are actually quite common and neither gender specific. They'll be used by either men or women, more usually women I've found
.

Mummytofour80 · 02/06/2022 16:31

Sugartits is the best one

DaisyWaldron · 02/06/2022 16:31

Petal, pet, duck, love. Other options depend on the region - I'm sure I've heard men being called "my darling" in shops before.

Back where OH is from we both get petal or my love or darling in shops, just how they talk. Here you're lucky to get a grunt from the shop staff.

Exactly this.

PriestessofPing · 02/06/2022 16:38

I find ‘cupcake’ is pretty effective.

Subbaxeo · 02/06/2022 16:38

I call everyone darling or my love-don’t mean to offend, honestly😊

merryhouse · 02/06/2022 16:41

Sweetie
Petal
Duck and Pet are quite sexlessly normal where I grew up and where I live, respectively
