Food after molar extraction

Hi looking for some advice. Got my top molar remove at 4pm today. My dentist said nothing hot or fizzy for a few days, nothing bitty like rice, regular painkillers and ice pack if required. I'm just looking for ideas for something to eat as I'm starving now? It wasn't a planned extraction so didn't get a chance to stock up on any different foods as such. Any advice would very welcome food or medical wise! I'm feeling very sorry for myself 😭

Soup

Ihatethenewlook · 30/05/2022 18:56

Anything lukewarm and soft. Mash, soup, scrambled eggs, porridge etc

RobinHumphries · 30/05/2022 19:14

Pasta, noodles…..

Doesnt have to be lukewarm - just not so hot that it burns your mouth

Jeansgoals · 30/05/2022 19:15

Mash, mousse. No straws. Take vitamins. If it gets worse don't delay.

I wanted egg but was scared lumps would go in the hole

I tried to eat on the other side of my mouth

I had a tooth removed last year. My mouth was swollen and achy for approx 2 weeks - it took 45 mins to take out as it fell to bits. Eating was problematic.

breakfast, porridge, Greek yogurt and jam

lunch, tinned spaghetti with grated cheese in or tin of smooth soup

tea, noodles with scrambled egg

snack, yogurt or rice pudding

DelilahBucket · 30/05/2022 20:09

I would stick to smooth soup to begin with. Not noodles or scrambled egg, trust me on that one.

CharlotteSt · 30/05/2022 20:11

No baked beans 😉

Titsywoo · 30/05/2022 20:11

I ate mash and soup the first day but noodles/pasta were fine after that. I did swish water around my mouth after eating (as in poured water in standing over a sink and moved my head from side to side so there was no suction!) so no bits got stuck but I was eating on the other side of my mouth anyway.

Thirstquenching · 30/05/2022 22:15

How long should I rinse my mouth for? A few days or more like a week? I'm absolutely terrified that I get an infection in it or food stuck

The main thing to be worried about is losing the clot. Be very careful with rinsing.

Thirstquenching · 30/05/2022 22:19

Yeah thats what I meant loosing the clot

I rinsed and gargled with salt water after a tooth extraction, made sure the area was clean. It begins to heal quite quickly, don’t be tempted to poke it with your tongue though.

Thirstquenching · 30/05/2022 22:22

Oh don't worry I'm going no where near it with my tongue lol

Definitely not rice, I made that mistake
I mostly had soup for a few days but it was ok

MarmiteOnToast · 30/05/2022 22:26

I had pizza, But cool not cold. I was pregnant and craving it. Ate other side. I must of looked Kind of like a camel in how i was trying to eat /chew haha

Tithebarnacle · 30/05/2022 22:48

No rinsing out for 24 h after extraction and then warm salt water mouthwashes after every meal. Let the wswmw 'puddle' around the socket for as long as possible.

Tithebarnacle · 30/05/2022 22:48

Do the wswmw for a week.

nearlyspringyay · 30/05/2022 22:51

No peas, rice
Or
Corn, you'll be fine with pretty much anything else just eat on the other side.

I'm 6 days from mine and gum has mostly healed up already, still niggly and needed painkillers all week, found ibruphren worked best, think the inflammation was pressing on a nerve as was throbbing all up my face. I had mash with gravy and yoghurt, first day. Lots of bananas and soft brioche rolls (don't want to see another for a long time!) but after about 3 days I was starving and just made a soft home made pizza and ate carefully on other side. The salt water I just allowed to pool over the hole and sit there for a minute about 3 times a day, that ensures its clean but I think it's supposed to be a gentle hold no swooshing about like mouthwash. I confess I've forgotten today so I suspect that means I'm on the mend. Had full roast beef dinner tonight😋

Thirstquenching · 31/05/2022 07:35

Thanks everyone for your advice. First night wasnt the best I couldn't get comfortable. I sleep with one pillow but then dentist said to try two so that didn't help. I've taken the day off work I feel like I've had no sleep at all

Gosh, I don't remember any special advice or diet when I had a wisdom tooth out (rotten, decades ago) or an ancient baby tooth came out (recent). Would say the gum is very soft when first exposed, so just take it easy.

garlictwist · 31/05/2022 08:56

I had a wisdom tooth out earlier this year. For about 10 days after I just ate yogurt, custard and trifle. I tried to eat a piece of bread but that hurt too much. I did lose weight as well despite the crap diet!
