muddyford · 30/05/2022 18:28

Marley and Me - the PTS scene towards the end finished me off.

Are any of these currently available on the usual streaming channels please ?

Feeling like a little light viewing? 😂

The Boy in The Striped Pyjamas - even worse than Schindler's List. I don't think I'll ever be able to watch it again.

Same. I thought I’d be ok cos its a kids film. Is it heck as like! I sobbed and sobbed and sobbed.

also Toy Story 3. Most of the cinema was in tears at that one.

RedPlumbob · 30/05/2022 18:33

We Need To Talk About Kevin, by a long shot.

Hafera · 30/05/2022 18:34

Irreversible followed closely by The Accused. Never been able to get those rape scenes out of my head.

littlelovely · 30/05/2022 18:37

I, Daniel Blake. Some of the moments of loneliness and desperation in the bleak lives of the main characters were utterly harrowing. Largely because it was almost certainly depicting true life for many people. I couldn’t stop crying. I was pregnant when I watched it so that didn’t help the crying.

MarshaBradyo · 30/05/2022 18:40

An incredible Swedish series Caliphate which ended with a teen girl being persuaded to detonate a bomb vest at a concert

It just goes quiet on the friend’s phone rather than showing it but I felt silent after

Rookiemistake · 30/05/2022 18:42

Surprised that I, Daniel Craig hasn't been mentioned more.
I found Gorillas in the Mist and Million Dollar Baby both very traumatic to watch.

Rookiemistake · 30/05/2022 18:43

Cleary I meant I, Daniel Blake not Craig. Doh!

Norgie · 30/05/2022 18:43

Cathy come home.
When they were removing the kids from the mother who was screaming and trying to hold onto them.
I sobbed like the heartbreak was mine.

ClinkeyMonkey · 30/05/2022 18:45

When I was a child I saw The Incredible Shrinking Man (an old black and white film from the 1950s) and had nightmares for weeks. I can barely remember it now, just the awful feeling it gave me knowing that the main character would eventually disappear and he knew there was nothing he could do.

ellebelli · 30/05/2022 18:45

Bipbopbee-FINALLY someone else who remembers the Plague Dogs-I too was left upset by this.
I didn't like that scene in The Walking Dead when Negan smashed some of the main characters heads in with Lucille either(trying not to spoil)

heathspeedwell · 30/05/2022 18:46

Under the Skin is a brilliant film but to this day I wish I had never watched it.

NellesVilla · 30/05/2022 18:47

I must be really desensitized as seeing most of these films’ titles failed to shock me, however the following I could never watch again:-

  • IT (original version) as hate clowns
  • The Passion of the Christ- grisly, cruel, graphic, distressing
  • Hostel- agree with PPs that it feasibly goes on in the world
  • Anything depicting animal cruelty
  • Cannibal Holocaust- v unpleasant
  • The Last House on the Left- horrific and I feel has contributed to my mental health issues
ColdinNovember · 30/05/2022 18:52

Dopesick just the greed and what happened as a result made me so angry and sad I was bawling.

I found the Good Place quite distressing at the end , don’t know why.

this is us - William and Randall’s story in particular

whatth · 30/05/2022 18:55

Brokeback Mountain absolutely killed me. I sobbed and sobbed for a good half an hour and then felt sad for the next day. Same with Titanic.

packedlunches · 30/05/2022 18:56

Kaftankween · 30/05/2022 18:15

Oh my goodness yes @packedlunches the Orphanage. The Spanish film? I watched it soon after I had my first baby. I was absolutely traumatised

I did the same! Cried for an hour after it finished! Really amazing film and I didn't guess the twist but it was really upsetting!

ProclivityForPyrotechnics · 30/05/2022 18:56

Omg Lion. I had to pause it after the first 15 minutes as it was too upsetting to watch. Went back to it when I was feeling stronger!

Caliphate was excellent.

Elderflower14 · 30/05/2022 19:00

And another one... Haachi.... I sobbed and sobbed at the end and haven't been able to watch it again since.. 😔 😢 😢

RaininSummer · 30/05/2022 19:11

The Killing Fields was and still is the most upsetting film I have seen

Kapalika · 30/05/2022 19:16

So many mentioned already.
Nil by Mouth - Kathy Burke and Ray Winstone.

I didn’t find Dopesick harrowing really but I was totally aghast and still am

I’m listening to Empire of Pain re the Sacklers on R4 and I’m just astounded at what was allowed to happen
