Advice needed.. Want to meet Ds2 in Central London... He's autistic. Want him to change lines to meet me.

Hi.. Planning another independence step for ds2 who's almost 25. He lives in Kent. I'm in Suffolk.
He's travelled on the tube from Stratford to Waterloo and back in the past.
What I want to do in the summer is have him come into St Pancras, I'm going to come into Liverpool Street. I want to meet him somewhere which means he has to change lines to find me. Somewhere with not to many entrances and exits. The trouble is St Pancras goes to lots of places.
I've promised him a trip to the Transport Museum afterwards. Help and advice gratefully received!

Could you get him to meet you on the top level at Liverpool St? That is ds' suggestion as the higher level is quieter. Ds is also autistic but trains are his passion. He says he's not got off at many stations, he just travels through🤣

Thanks but St Pancras is direct from LS... I want him to change lines.. ☺

Why not meet at Covent Garden?

namechange30455 · 29/05/2022 21:39

Chancery Lane or St Paul's?

It's direct from St P to CG... ☺

Northern Line from Kings Cross which is next door to St Pancaras. Then meet at Leicester Square tube.

The Kings Cross branch of the Northern Line doesn't go to Leicester Sq.

I'm a lifelong Londoner and avoid St P and Kings Cross wherever possible. It seems odd to use a maximum hassle route.

if he's getting on at St P, then going to KGX effectively is changing trains. Bit puzzled.

Tower Hill only has one exit but the interchange at Bank is probably the most confusing of all of them. Sloane Square is also single exit, but he might be tempted to go around the circle line rather than go south on the Piccadilly then District & Circle. same applies for Temple on the District & Circle - single exit.

EmpressaurusWitchDoesntBurn · 29/05/2022 22:26

Kings X & St Pancras share a tube station.

Is there a reason that it has to be St Pancras? If he’s coming from Kent, I’d have thought London Bridge, Blackfriars or Cannon St would be more obvious choices.

Bank confuses the hell out of me so I wouldn't send him there! I once had the misfortune to have to leave Bank in a hurry due to an abandoned piece of luggage causing a bomb scare. I was ringing my sister as I legged it up the escalator to find out which exit for Liverpool Street!!

He uses the High Speed line... He could possibly come into Victoria.. I will have a look at that too,!!

Yeah I've never quite got used to it and I lived 15 minutes walk from there for years!

Other options could be Queensway (go south on Piccadilly & change to go west on central line at Holborn). Queensway is single exit and just over the road from Hyde Park. I beleve Lancaster Gate is similar but not 100% on that one.

I hate to be that poster. But does meeting you need to be a life skills lesson?

Couldn't he just get to enjoy seeing you

EspeciallyDistracted · 29/05/2022 23:04

If he hasn't already got it could I suggest he gets the CityMapper app for navigation? It gives you all the different journey options, live times, which bus stop or platform to go to, which exit of stations to use.

EmmaH2022 · 29/05/2022 23:34

OP
The point I'm making is, the arrival of a train into St Pancras, then going from there to the Tube at King's Cross, is the equivalent of changing Tubes or trains surely? It's harder really. In some cases, changing lines literally just means crossing to another platform.

But tbh, I don't really get why anyone would make the experience more irritating than it already is.

So for the Transport Museum, why not just get the Piccy Line from Kings Cross to Covent Garden?

It's important that he learns how to do it. He may have to do it in an emergency one day and at least if it goes wrong this time (I fervently hope it doesn't!) I will be nearby to help!!

Could he do waterloo to bank and then bank to Liverpool street

BendingSpoons · 30/05/2022 07:30

If you are looking for a simple change, you can switch between the Victoria line and Bakerloo line at Oxford Circus by going straight across the platform. You need to be changing from North to North or South to South to work. He could go from Victoria to Oxford Circus and change to the Bakerloo for Regents Park, which is a relatively small station. It would be fairly easy for the transport museum afterwards.

Cyberworrier · 30/05/2022 07:35

If he's coming into St Pancras, ie using Kings Cross tube as PP have pointed out, he could get the northern line city branch south to Moorgate and then change onto the circle/Hammersmith and city line to meet you at Liverpool Street. That would be changing tube.

However, I know some people do find the Hammersmith and City/Circle/District lines confusing, so maybe that's a step too far? Hard to guess when we don't know how confident your son is about getting around.

There are lots of different possibilities but they will all be very crowded. Eg, he could also get Victoria line to Oxford Circus and then change on central line and meet you at Tottenham Court Road? Then you could walk to Transport museum.

BendingSpoons · 30/05/2022 07:38

Or following on from my previous post, he could to Victoria line from King's X/St P to Oxford Circus, then change straight across the platform to Bakerloo to Lambeth North, which is a one exit station.

FrenchFancie · 30/05/2022 07:50

Holborn.
picadilliy line from st panc to CG, change at CG to central line, next stop Holborn. Only one real exit, not a busy station at the weekend and a short walk back to CG for the transport museum?
