Does anyone remember this cutting edge documentary on parenting?

Watched it again recently and feel just as upset as I felt all those years ago.
I’d love to know how Georgina and her family are now 18 years later.

Does anyone know?

Here’s the MN discussion from the time:

It was desperately sad- she so wanted her baby, someone to love her. Her distress when she felt rejected by her baby... her terror at being rejected again.

We've all felt that at odd moments, right? But we push it away and keep on keeping on. I found my first DS really hard, and I was an awful parent to him for a while.

Without a doubt, only the adult can turn the situation around. The child's temperament is part of the story though- some children survive 'traditional/old fashioned' parenting methods, others spiral out of control. Many many parents out there are parenting equally badly, but their child doesn't explode the way Georgina does so it appears as though it's worked. It was listening to parents like that that got me into such difficulties with DS1.

I've not watched to the end yet, I remember it from first time round though.

Hi everyone,
I am Georgina's older half sister who was featured in this documentary (at the very end) so I am the oldest child of Fred's children. I came across this post when looking for the original documentary online and seeing as some of you were wondering how the family are doing now, I can happily give you an update.

Georgina was diagnosed with ADHD after the documentary was filmed so she received help with medication which helped them all greatly. As Georgina grew up, her behaviour became more manageable and they thrived as any 'normal' family and her relationship with my Dad and Step Mum strengthened.

Sadly my Dad passed away in 2022 but Diane and Georgina still live together and do everything together and are very close. Georgina is 30 now and happy with a good circle of friends and community around her.

Thank you all for your kind comments. Hopefully that has answered some of your questions.

I’m sorry to hear about your dad, but happy to
hear that mum and daughter and close and well. Thank you for the update

@debpaul72 thank you, I am sorry for your loss, but so pleased to read that there was a happy outcome. I've thought about Georgina over the years, and thought that genre of programmes was harmful in a way when I first watched it I didn't understand.
