How often do you buy clothes?

Just that really? I feel like I hardly ever do - everyone else seems so fashionable. What do you buy and how often and where do you shop.

I bought some pants from Tesco a few days ago because I'd got behind on the laundry. Before that, I can't remember when I last bought clothes. I suppose maybe a couple of times a year I buy some socks or a t-shirt or a pair of trousers or something, from a supermarket or Amazon usually. I don't like spending money and I don't care what I look like. I'd imagine that people who do care what they look like and are okay with spending money probably buy more clothes, and that's also cool.

ThisIsNotARealAvo · 27/05/2022 05:28

I buy something nearly every week. Quite a bit of it gets sent back, so I'm not sure how much I end up with. Probably keep one or two things each month.

Celticdawn5 · 27/05/2022 05:39

I hardly ever buy clothes. I just manage with what I have .in the past I have wasted what I consider a lot of money on bad choices and now of an age where I think ‘sod it’ just not going to do it again. The last time I had a splurge was about 9 years ago panic buying for two weddings I had to attend.

NearlyHeadlessNick · 27/05/2022 05:43

Rarely. I brought a multipack of pants and socks from Tesco recently when I threw out some holey ones. When we first heard that energy bills would sky rocket I brought a few hoodies on vinted so I didn't need to put the heating on.
Most of my clothes buying is on vinted nowadays. I'm a comfort over style kind of person, as long as I'm clean and tidy.

lettherebelists · 27/05/2022 05:52

Once or twice a year and that will just be the odd item. I like clothes but I don’t care about ‘fashion’ so I’m happy with what’s in my wardrobe, wear clothes until they’re worn out and don’t go clothes shopping unless I need something.

70kid · 27/05/2022 05:53

Most months I can easily spend around £150
This month I’ve spent around £600 £700

This is from ASOS & Freeman’s as they have these really nice t shirts that I like and SHEIN for a couple pairs of holiday shoes

I wouldn’t normally spend this much but I’m going on holiday

I’ve had a massive clear out and gave loads of stuff to my niece that I no longer wanted
i probably won’t buy anything now unless I really want it till Sept time

skippy67 · 27/05/2022 05:54

I buy something new most months. I love clothes!

Blush21 · 27/05/2022 06:09

Usually buy 1or 2 pieces a month if I see something I really like or need. I tend to splurge on more items if I’m replacing something so if a T-shirts on its way out I might get 2 to replace it etc. nothing expensive asos. Tesco river island etc

Camomila · 27/05/2022 07:15

We're saving atm so I only buy things if I need them (eg, replacing socks or things where the elastic has gone)

My mum will usually buy me something if we happen to be at the supermarket together and we see something nice...she'll always say "Ooh let me get that for you" (maybe once every couple of months)

BooksAndChooks · 27/05/2022 07:18

Around 6-12 items a year, if that. Black leather boots to replace my 8 year old ones that were falling apart, a new pack of pants (again because my 10 year old ones were developing holes), a sun hat because I don't own one and I'm trying to take better care of my skin, some second hand birkenstocks from eBay and two basic t shirts from uniqlo because they last really well.

I really hate fast fashion and try to buy only the things I truly need, and then buy higher quality or second hand where I can. I do the same with the kids.

Skyeheather · 27/05/2022 07:28

Before I had DC, every month on pay day! Now hardly ever as DC always seem to need something whereas I have a wardrobe full of clothes I'm not growing out of!

LadyLolaRuben · 27/05/2022 07:34

Weekly from underwear to work and casual. Just a piece or two when I see them. I find it difficult to get clothes for my shape also, I'm quite fussy so its difficult to just shop a few times a year, as when I've done that I found nothing I like.

reluctantbrit · 27/05/2022 07:38

Depends. I need new Summer stuff as lots of T-shirts are beyond their best. And I need a new. jacket. but can't. find anything I like or can close over. my boobs without looking as if I wear a potato sack.

Normally I bought more work clothes but we are still on casual unless meeting clients (which I do once every year or so), therefore nothing really needs replacement.

Currently going through the. wardrobe and most likely will also need to replace knickers, socks and nightwear.

Snowiscold · 27/05/2022 07:39

Hardly ever. Most of the clothes I buy are second hand from charity shops - really good ones where I live. I did spend £45 last week on two pairs of cigarette trousers, two cotton shirts, a silk-cashmere jumper and a silk cardigan -all second hand in mint condition.

Lovemusic33 · 27/05/2022 07:42

This month I have spent quite a bit but before that I hadn’t really bought much at all since Christmas, I do buy from vinted and sell things I don’t wear. In the last 2 weeks I have probably spent £200 ish on some summer clothes and a pair of walking trousers.

hellcatspanglelalala · 27/05/2022 07:44

I tend to buy clothes each season, not because I'm on trend or anything, just that I don't buy much so what I wear gets worn out (especially t shirts)

If I'm out and about and I see something I like I'll buy it, because it doesn't happen very often.

LaWench · 27/05/2022 07:45

1-2 a year I'll have a blowout and buy a lot.

Imsittinginthekitchensink · 27/05/2022 07:51

I've ordered 3 things this week, but the last time I got anything was a jumper in Feb. I will buy a couple of things next month for a holiday and then probably a few things to update my work wardrobe for September.

jeannie46 · 27/05/2022 07:52

Nothing since before covid. I realised I had enough. Remembered French friends who would have maybe 2-3 outfits of good quality for each season. Not piles of tat like me.

roses2 · 27/05/2022 07:59

I spend ~£300/year mainly from charity shops and ebay.

I buy a lot for that! And good quality like Massimo Dutti, &Other Stories, Armani, Ralph Lauren....

Changedagain876 · 27/05/2022 08:07

Thank you this is so interesting. I also try and buy quality but as a pp said it wears out quickly. I feel like I live in joggers though - I wfh but hate jeans! So always look a mess 🙈

Every week. I buy via charity shops though and am constantly selling other stuff on on Vinted.

OdeToSadDisco · 27/05/2022 08:24

Twice a year - Spring and Autumn - I sort through what I've got, try on my clothes for the upcoming season, sell/donate/recycle anything I no longer want and make a list of what I need/want. Then I look for as many of them as I can second hand (Vinted, eBay, charity shops). If I need underwear and sports wear I buy that new as well as anything that I haven't been able to find second hand. I buy a mix of cheaper and mid-priced brands but I mostly steer clear of the likes of Primark and supermarkets as the quality/fabric doesn't tend to be good. I try to avoid impulse buys, but get things I will wear for a good few years.

I probably spend a total of £2-300 twice a year.

This spring I bought:
NEW
1 dress - Hush
2 tops - New Look, Oasis
Socks
SECOND HAND
Lightweight jacket
Flat sandals
Dress
Top
Wedges
Sunglasses

That'll probably be it until Autumn now.

yellowspottyladybird · 27/05/2022 08:38

Rarely spend on myself now, before DD I would spend on myself every month but we just don't have the spare cash anymore. I do need to spend on summer clothes this year though as my clothes from previous years no longer fit.

Inthesameboatatmo · 27/05/2022 10:00

I hardly ever buy clothes now, because I've spent a good couple years replacing almost everything with better quality items. I don't buy much new mostly from ebay or vinted. I get most handbags or boots second hand and that makes it more affordable.
