TV for 9 year old

Theatrefish · 23/05/2022 13:46

DD9 is beginning to grow out of kids' tv and I'm hoping to get some recommendations for things she might enjoy.

Successes

Ghosts (the rude bits go over her head!)
Bake Off
The Floor is Lava (but I hate it!)

Failures

Friends (much too grown up context needed)
Anne with an E - didn't hold her attention.

She loves funny stuff - I was wondering about Malcolm in the Middle - is the language ok? (I don't mind "crap", "hell", "ass" but would rather avoid "shit" etc)

Lego masters. Like bake off but with lego. You can get the American and aussie versions too so hours of entertainment.

My 10 year old likes top gear (yawn) Simpsons, any David Attenborough, Steve Backshall, that sort of thing. Will still also watch stuff on cbbc such as horrible histories or the various science based or engineering based things.

As with yours anything too rude on this like top gear fits over his head.

Monkeybutt1 · 23/05/2022 13:59

Is it cake?
Steve Backshalls Deadly 60/Deadly Predators
MaveriX on Netflix

ABlindAssassin · 23/05/2022 14:00

The Goes Wrong Show on iplayer. My 9 yr old finds it hilarious!

Yes! She loves the ones I've let her watch but a few of them are a bit too risqué.

Malcolm in the middle will be suitable for a 9 year old. I love the show, has me in stitches

BloddersMum · 23/05/2022 14:41

My dd is loving The last bus on Netflix. British school sci fi series, not too scary.

We have also watched Hawkeye and WandaVision on Disney with her.

We mostly tend to end up with baking/cooking shows which can get a bit repetitive.

Love lego masters, but as with masterchef the Australian one is the best with Brickman and Hamish.

DD and DH also love to watch Taskmaster Bleeped edition together.

Suitcasesuitcase · 23/05/2022 14:42

Is it Cake on Netflix. It’s surprisingly good!

Suitcasesuitcase · 23/05/2022 14:42

Oh yes and also second Lego Masters

Theatrefish · 23/05/2022 14:45

Lego Masters looks great! Unfortunately DD has no interest in Lego.

We tried Is It Cake and it drove me mad!

Taskmaster bleeped might be a great shout - she loved doing the challenges in lockdown.

Love this 😁 really made me smile.

BloddersMum · 23/05/2022 15:10

Oh yeah! Forgot about Sort Your Life Out! Stacey has another fan in the form of my dd. She loves it.

There is another American one on Netflix. Get organised with the home edit. No idea why she likes these but they seem to float her boat 😆.

Heli1copter · 23/05/2022 15:11

Strictly Come Dancing? My 8yr old loves it, we watch 30mins at a time. She also likes Bake off/Junior bake off and I'm thinking she might like Sewing Bee for similar reasons.

If you have Amazon Prime there was a series called Lost in Oz which we all enjoyed, and she liked The Deep series on iplayer.

motogirl · 23/05/2022 15:18

Mine liked home makeover shows especially American ones, cbbc dramas eg mi high (it's been a while so dont know current offerings) and anything on Disney, back then Hannah Montana and wizards of Waverley place were big hits (we watched too) but this was before Disney + of course. Also they watched blue Peter and newsround. Oh and my hero was a hit, old as I said!

nearlyspringyay · 23/05/2022 15:56

Young sheldon
Any of the master chefs on W
Anything real life a and e,ambulance etc
Yorkshire vet
Yorkshire farm

They're into animals and healthcare!

Charles11 · 23/05/2022 16:00

Mine loved A series of unfortunate events and Free Rein.

nearlyspringyay · 23/05/2022 17:11

Oh Free Rein as well, mine have watched three times over. I quite like it too 😂

Theatrefish · 23/05/2022 18:19

Mine loved A series of unfortunate events and Free Rein.

She adores the Lemony Snicket (she has read all the books too). I haven't heard of Free Rein but I will check it out.

The mysterious Benedict society
a series of unfortunate events (program not movie)
Young sheldon
outnumbered
pottery throw down
race across the world
lost in space

i found Malcom in the middle a bit rude for mine and also weirder than I remembered 😊

ItsMutinyontheBunty · 23/05/2022 18:30

DD is the same age and she loves Taskmaster bleeped! She also likes Victorious, Sam and Cat, iCarly and on Disney plus she likes Jessie and Liv and Maddie.

ItsMutinyontheBunty · 23/05/2022 18:31

Oh she’s also watched all of the classic Full House and the reboot Fuller House which I also enjoyed in a retro way. (Lots of “I had an outfit like that” from the 90s fashion!)

Oooh my DD who is 9 liked Sabrina the Teenage Witch (the 90s one) and I absolutely loved rewatching it too

southlondoner02 · 23/05/2022 21:45

Jules912 · 23/05/2022 22:30
