For me it's a few things:
-Learning what past trauma is and how it plays out in relationships
-Learn to say no to things and people and not feel bad about it
-Realising no one really notices or cares what I do or look like; felt liberated to not always wear lots of makeup, dress in a new outfit or have my roots done, or eat out alone, or do anything alone.
-Not watching much current tv and picking up a book instead
-Listening to James O' Brien on LBC ( I know he's not everyone's cup of tea- but I learned alot)
-Waking up v early to have some me time. This was hard as I was a night owl for many years.
-Declutter and only buy when I need something. To be honest this started as I had to downsize to an empty flat after my divorce and am on not much money but it has helped with not worrying about possessions and all the cleaning involved.
-Divorce my ex husband- biggest impact haha

What improved yours?

Moving from the city back to my home village. Our area was going downhill, constant attempts to steal DH's motorbike which we later got rid of to stop making us a target, kids always throwing rocks at our windows. Once we moved, I relaxed so much. Once a country girl, always a country girl, in my case.

Stopping drinking alcohol.

Embracing my hobbies. Proud plane-spotter here.

Magnesium. Really helps with my moods, especially PMS.

Getting a dog. She's added chaos to our house, but in a good way. Unfortunately she has terminal cancer at 3 years old though. 😭 But she's added so much to our lives in the last 3 years.

Tummy tuck.

I feel like my old self, my confidence is through the roof, I'm having lots more sex.

I have two. Leaving my husband, getting a tongue scraper. Both good ways of removing annoying crap.

Absolutely brilliant! 😂

Cutting my desk job down to two days a week and getting a part time gardening job - best of both worlds!

Moving to a smaller house with nearly an acre of garden - room for animals, fruit and veg, and all my projects

Prioritising home and family over anything external

@PiffleWiffleWoozle It's like a dating app, but for friends. I was really reluctant for a while, because I thought it was just a bit....odd, but I've actually made some genuinely good friends 👍

"I've resonated with quite a few. I am a teacher and can't seem to think of a way out of it. I'd love to do something else"

Have you though about instructional design? With a side order of Educational Data Analysis if you're feeling brave. Lots of ex-teachers in the profession.

I'm just making the transfer from teaching. I spent a year doing masses of training. I start my new career in a week and it's the most money I've ever earned.

@wallywobbles what type of training did you work through? I'm really interested in this!

PiffleWiffleWoozle · 23/05/2022 17:14

Thanks @SugarandLime That sounds really interesting. Is it called Friends app? I couldn’t find anything of that name by searching on the App Store?

Going to Slimming world , lost nearly 3 stone in 4 months and still enjoying majority of food I ate before, I feel so good about myself and healthier as have upped my exercise as well ,

Citalopram. This anxiety med has improved every aspect of my life immensely. I was able to start writing again after 20 years of wasting my time. I feel constantly at ease and calm whereas everything used to irritate me so much. I rarely shout at the kids anymore.

Retiring. I now spend my time making music, learning new things, going on holiday, meeting friends and writing stories. I have time for my grandchildren. I no longer have to be polite to unpleasant people and put on a professional smile whilst seething inside. What a wonderful life!

notacooldad · 23/05/2022 18:18

Meeting my husband
Having children.
Mylife was pretty good before DH yet he improved it immeasurable.
These days it’s just us two rattling round our house but I love it!

I did a micromasters in instructional design and technology with EdX and Maryland Uni. Lasted 9 months I think. They start 3 c year. I finished in January this year. I've also taught 850 hours this year in HE so it was a big year.

I did a bunch of short courses first on LinkedIn. But if you use an LMS a lot of it will feel familiar. I love it.

Plucking up the courage to ride my bike in central London. We don’t have a car and I like walking, but sometimes I need to move more quickly. I love the freedom of sailing past traffic jams and queues at bus stops.

Going back to work full time after being a SAHM. I don’t regret the years at home with the children, but I dithered a bit about going back and lost a lot of confidence. It’s hard and tiring, but I love my job!

mam0918 · 23/05/2022 18:37

Im trying the decluttering one now (well have for two weeks) theres so much stuff though that its taking forever.

H007 · 23/05/2022 18:40

Open Water Swimming…. It genuinely changed my life. I don’t just want to go now, I need to go. I love doing it in different places, I love cold water swimming, and I love ice water swimming.

Great read.
Mine are:

Telling my sister I never want to see her again after a lifetime of bullying.

Getting a therapist. Childhood bullying and workplace trauma.

Refusing to drop my salary during employment negotiations. I'm worth it.

Requesting equity for building brands from the ground up. A new ask and I'm not budging.

Going alcohol free after many, many drunken episodes with shame and embarrassment.

Picking our new home to suit my husband and I and not dependant relatives which we had to do for 18 years .
