Anyone remember?

Made me terrified as a child 🤣

The one about half cooked sausages on a Bbq.
The one about seatbelts needing fastened.
The one about not climbing pylons.
The one about smoking.
The one about crossing the roads.
The one about STDs.
The one about drugs.

All in primary school.

All with the message "IF YOU DO THIS YOU WILL DIE"

I still daren't walk through a field with a pylon in it 😂 though it never stopped me smoking at 13.

Oh well.

I’m still absolutely terrified of getting close to fireworks. Even sparklers.

fireworks = melted faces/hands/certain death in my mind now. Only so much a stop drop and roll can do!

AdamRyan · 20/05/2022 18:39

Oh god yes. 80s for me though. The one where several kids die a variety of horrible deaths on a farm wad the worst. Why did adults do that to us?

BasilParsley · 20/05/2022 18:41

With respect to electric train tracks, I have known more than one of my 'clients' in the last five years who have had serious, life-changing, injuries due to not realising the perils of stepping on a live rail. I think they need to bring some of those videos back...

AdamRyan · 20/05/2022 18:42

I found it on YouTube

iklboo · 20/05/2022 18:43

@Justlovedogs - I remember Tufty. If someone announces they've done something hardly worth mentioning I'll say 'What do you want, a Tufty Badge?' 😄

AdamRyan · 20/05/2022 18:45

Oh apparently that's just the deaths and the actual film was 26 minutes long
Anyway it fucking scarred me for life

bookworm14 · 20/05/2022 18:48

The electricity substation one with the boy’s legs catching on fire! 😱 Haunted me for years. And the one where the little girl picks up a hot sparkler.

MobLife · 20/05/2022 18:48

I remember one illustrating the dangers of being on a bicycle and what happens if you end up on the inside of a lorry turning....literally just see someone getting squashed under the bus! Absolutely bloody terrifying-can't remember the name but this would have been late 80s or very early 90s

mizzo · 20/05/2022 18:48

The escalator one with the child's wellington and the one about a gas leak where a couple get home and the woman says "Niiick, I can smell gas" will haunt me for the rest of my days!

AnnaSW1 · 20/05/2022 18:50

I was in one about stranger danger!

HardRockOwl · 20/05/2022 18:53

The worst advert I ever saw, years ago now, was where a woman got into her car, a couple of teenage kids in the back.

She drove off laughing and chatting with her kids as a voiceover said 'Julie knew her killer...'

And cue her slamming on her brakes to avoid a collision and her son in the back flying forward, crashing into her head as he wasn't wearing a seatbelt in the back
Honestly - was awful

Oh god, I’d forgotten this. It was horrific.

HardRockOwl · 20/05/2022 18:59

Oh and the man going about his business - just having a normal day , at work and at home and playing football, sleeping etc etc

And all the time, there was a young boy curled up, dead, wherever he was.

Turned out he'd killed him when speeding and this was his 'punishment' - never being able to forget what he'd done

So that was another fun one

mackthepony · 20/05/2022 19:01

Apparently in Australia they had something similar when AIDS was first publicised

Pickingyournoseattrafficlights · 20/05/2022 19:01

Slurry pit video. Still gives me a tight knot in my tummy thinking about it.

Hellocatshome · 20/05/2022 19:03

The one where the kids football boots get stuck on the railway tracks gave me so many nightmare my Mum got me excused from watching any more. But then I also had to be excused from reading Watership Down so I may have been an overly sensitive child.

toomuchlaundry · 20/05/2022 19:04

The Apaches one was awful. Remember watching that con the big TV at Primary School. I also remember watching the Train one at home on tv when it was on Nationwide. They had a studio audience of children and one had to be taken away as he felt faint

OpposableThumbs2 · 20/05/2022 19:05

Poor Robbie got injured/killed in three different ways in the train videos. Electric tracks, electric overhead lines and being hit by a train.

Allmyarseandpeggymartin · 20/05/2022 19:07

The aids advert - I was only a kid but it terrified me

BertieBotts · 20/05/2022 19:07

Chip pan fires - TV adverts in the 90s. Utterly terrified me, I won't have one in the house, even though I know logically they all have safety shut offs these days and it was the open type pan, not the electric ones anyway.

I'm sure there were more on fire safety because I used to have recurrent nightmares about house fires.

AncientAzalea · 20/05/2022 19:11

Christ they were traumatising. I can still picture some now.
Also in the early 90's I remember a kid trying to climb our school gates and he slipped. Next bit is grim so skip if you are squeamish. They posted a photo of him still attached to the fence on the from page of the local paper!!!

RibNSaucyArseCrack · 20/05/2022 19:11

I remember watching these in primary school in the early 2000’s so like 9 or 10? Traumatised still about those big power boxes. There was a boy in the film playing in one and his chain on his jeans (so 2000’s haha!) connected two power things together and basically barbecued him. Very graphic. I remember all us little kids just sat there open mouthed staring at the screen of this little corpse just smoking away. I don’t think they would get away with showing kids that now!

BertieBotts · 20/05/2022 19:12

We didn't get any like this at school, but we did get shown a video about the new American drug crystal meth and how this woman was so high she pulled out her own teeth with pliers 😱 I think it was a Dispatches type programme rather than a PSA, and a friend from the local Catholic school had the police come in to trial a new program about the dangers of drink and drug driving. Apparently it was absolutely horrific and included things like pictures from an accident where somebody had been decapitated by the central reservation barrier 😬

BertieBotts · 20/05/2022 19:13

There is a great documentary that goes through the history of all these, I'll have to try and find the name of it.
