What do you do when you fancy a biscuit / cake / chocolate

I'm trying to loose weight, and whilst I know an occasional treat is fine, I had some Easter egg yesterday and now I want some more 🙃 arghhhhj

Well it's the weather in part, had a day out planned which has rained off and didn't do my usual walk as had toddler DD and she isn't keen on rainy walks as won't walk in it and hates the rain cover as can't see out.

Having a cup of tea but meh, it's not the same. Salad for lunch and honestly its not the same as chocolate.

My willpower is nil, but I sometimes dip apple wedges in a blob of peanut butter - definitely not the same as chocolate or cake, but feels a bit worthy 😅

Or a 1 slice of granary bread jam sandwich - tea with jam and bread (telling myself it could have been a 2 slice sandwich)

For me, I love love love yoghurt, especially greek yoghurt, so that's what I usually have. Sometimes with chopped banana or granola (homemade is nicest and heathiest) . I also love chocolate but find greek yoghurt still satisfies the treat craving.

I just have some. But say, 1 square of dairy milk and that’s it.

Or snack wise I’m a big fan of the lighter babybels.

Have the cake or biscuit, but only if you make it homemade. You naturally won’t make it as often as that requires effort. It’s too easy to just open shop bought and eat all day

I make myself a tea of coffee and try and distract myself. Or a banana. Or I give in and get annoyed with myself!

I prepare to be stripped naked, my head shaved, and to walk through the town with a bell saying ‘Shame, shame’ while the thinner townsfolk with more willpower throw their rotten vegetables at me.

Usually at the end of that, I don’t fancy a cake or a biscuit.

I have a sugar free cookie. B&m do a load of stuff like that. They're surprisingly good.

I check in with myself about whether I'm hungry or wanting a distraction or something. If I'm hungry and I want a biscuit or whatever, I have one.

Good point. I'm sure I'd make better choices if I was walking about naked all the time 😳

If you really want it, have it! Just plan for it in your day's food so it doesn't throw off your diet.

If you'd actually rather keep the calories for your dinner, distract yourself with something else - big glass of water and something spicy usually works for me e.g. a ritz cracker with lots of english mustard, or a couple of peppadews or pickled onions.

I had to wean myself of sugary stuff and snacking in general. It just made me hungrier for the rest of the day and I often hadn't particularly enjoyed it, anyhow. It took a week or so of distraction - and the odd headache - but the cravings went away, after a while.

Would it be easier if you just didn’t have it in? If I don’t have cake in then I can’t have it. I don’t snack between meals either, so it’s not really something I think about too often. It’s not a choice between a carrot and a biscuit, I’m just waiting for me next meal.

Joe Wicks says, don't let a bad day turn into a bad week. Maybe you can build in a biscuit/chocolate allowance if you can stick to it and not down the week's allowance in one sitting? Aldi does a good bar of dark chocolate and you can have 100 calories worth a day, for example. But if you do overeat your allowance, don't beat yourself up, just make sure you don't turn the bad day into a bad week.

But also - have a think about the satisfactions beyond appetite that the chocolate/piece of cake/biscuit is bringing you. Sugar delivers a big old dopamine hit, and it maybe that you have to wean yourself off the emotional rewards of the sugar and find something else that makes you happy. Paint your nails, do a yoga workout, read a good book, watch an episode of a favourite programme, whatever. Good habits, bad habits - it's all about changing behaviour, innit?

Brushing your teeth is a good distraction. That or doing 10 star jumps or something. I also need to lose weight!

Well, judging by this moment, I walk to the pantry, ransack it and find a very old, slightly squashed TimeOut bar, inhale it, and then feel guilty as I hadn't even finished my ridiculous fish finger sandwich before I'd decided that's what I was going to do.

I also am in need to lose weight, but am stress eating. This needs to stop.

I am trying to find alternatives, like the apple and peanut butter idea from the PP, and those low calorie jelly for the sweet taste.

I am also trying to lose weight. I have one "treat" a week of cake or chocolate.

I can't just eat what I fancy when I fancy because I have a sweet tooth and I'd eat chocolate every day. I struggle to regulate as well, I can't do this "2 squares of dark chocolate a day", I'd eat a family size bar.

I have to be very strict with myself. It's better for me to stick to one treat a week.

Yeah I'm all or nothing. One biscuit? Pah I eat the packet. But I can do none weirdly. Why is that? It's just hard as once you do give in it certainly opens the floodgates to all the cravings.

Usually, have the chocolate. Difficulty is that it's hard to have just a small bit.

But I recently discovered that partially defrosted strawberries from the freezer are very nice and have hardly any calories.

I am one of those apparent freaks of nature who seldom eats chocolate, I have had it go out of date in my kitchen cupboard before I binned it!

Crisps, however. Ah, therein lies the rub. I could eat a six pack a day and left to my own devices I probably would. 😆

I don't usually buy them. And when I think about buying them, I kick the can down the road and think, maybe tomorrow I'll buy some, I can have them then if I really want. Tomorrow I do the same. Eventually I will buy some crips before the whole process starts again.

ChazzaGirl · 20/05/2022 14:07

Crisps are my downfall too. I’m not a big cake lover, but I go through spells of craving chocolate so I tend to buy the really dark stuff as I find a few squares satisfy me.

I sometimes have one of those tiny kiddies yoghurts if I’m craving something sweet.
