Jubilee street party - anyone else planning one?

I’m organising this for my road. Interested to hear what others are planning!

we have about 30 adults and 5-10 children

We've got one in our road but I'm not the organiser. The people running it have arranged for a bouncy castle and entertainment for the children. It'll be nice I hope!

EmmaH2022 · 18/05/2022 18:12

I'm helping with one. Numbers are similar.

we've got two ladies in my block who sing beautifully so they will do that, but I'm also doing a playlist which needs to appeal across all ages.

the organiser is looking for a magician for the kids. But I'm excited for that 😂

others are doing food - cooking is not my thing. I will have to take trays round to the elderly folks and keep an eye for them generally.

just really want decent weather, which for me is no rain and about 20c.

Bringonthebloodydrama · 18/05/2022 18:29

Nope

CandyApplePie · 18/05/2022 18:44

Nothing planned where I am

VeniVidiWeeWee · 18/05/2022 19:04

I hope you're not planning to close the road.

I think you're way out of time to apply for permission.

Ilikewinter · 18/05/2022 19:08

Not in our street but the village green are staging a party...... i couldnt imagine a worse place to be!

MrsRuggles · 18/05/2022 19:14

Someone else is. A long way from my part of town. Thank goodness.

Snoopsnoggysnog · 18/05/2022 19:32

Wow - thanks for the couple of helpful posts and massive eye roll to the rest of you. Why post if you have nothing helpful to contribute? Confused

Yeah thanks for that. I have applied and received permission, why would you think I hadn’t?

Bloody hope no one is where I live. Just because every bugger else gets 2 extra days off work because of the jubilee. Those of us who work in Heath care dont and I aren't pissing about finding alternative routes to calls because they've closed the roads just so everyone else can have a street party!

because they can, you asked the question! I’m with them, can’t think of anything I’d rather do less.

PizzaPatel · 18/05/2022 20:01

Grumpiest thread ever 😂

we’re doing music, bake off, entertainment for kids, some kids games etc, bbq/food and bouncy castle

Dauncets · 18/05/2022 20:03

Like fuck I am.

DrBrennerFan · 18/05/2022 20:05

No and won’t be going either I’ll be binge watching stuff. (Going through bad patch) so no jubilee stuff for me. I want a book though I’ll order next week.

Dauncets · 18/05/2022 20:06

Is it Das Kapital?

wanderingscot · 18/05/2022 20:06

Yes, we've got one. Very much looking forward to it. Loads of new neighbours so will be good to meet them

PeekAtYou · 18/05/2022 20:10

We are having a party.

It's a cul de sac so we just asked each other for permission to close the road. The people working are going to park round the corner (plenty of parking)

easyday · 18/05/2022 20:41

You aren't the only one working @HopingForMyRainbowBaby. Someone is still keeping the lights on, waiting on tables, working in shops, selling food and transporting stuff around. Get off your high horse and let others enjoy it. Road closures are given in advance and the council should have worked out alternate routes.
OP we aren't, which is surprising as there's usually events for just this kind of thing in the local park (no need to close any roads!) at the end of our grid of streets.

RichardOsmansXraySpecs · 18/05/2022 20:44

Well I hope you all have a lovely time and the weather stays nice for you. We live on a very unsociable long street so won't be having one.

I still remember the Silver Jubilee street party from when I was a child. Happy days.

I never said I was the only one working.

tigger1001 · 18/05/2022 21:02

Haven't heard about any locally. I'm working anyway as normal

EmmaH2022 · 18/05/2022 21:10

Also a cul de sac.

I can't imagine many main roads are going to be closed, but now London is at a standstill for emergency vehicles anyway. Don't get me started....! There's Ride London this weekend. Roads are always closed for something or other.

wizzler · 18/05/2022 21:13

We have one every year and so this years is planned for jubilee weekend
When we first started them we organised treasure hunts round the front gardens and had street cricket
All the Dc are far too cool for that now Hmm and so now it is just a very chill day where everyone brings food which we all share and we chat, someone brings music, and we have a drunk dog walk altogether mid afternoon. People dip in and out all day

Alphabet1spaghetti2 · 18/05/2022 21:14

There’s is a ‘walk for locals only’ and a byo picnic in a park.
Thankfully I have to work.

CheeseCakeSunflowers · 18/05/2022 21:38

I've just got home from our final village jubilee party planning meeting. We have a children's tea party, a senior's tea party an evening BBQ and barn dance, tree planting, an it's a knockout competition and a life size cardboard Queen for selfies. I think in most people's minds it's doubling up as a jubilee celebration and an end to the COVID restrictions. Good luck to everyone who plans to have some fun.
