I remember in the early 9Os watching a documentary about 2 men who were partners, living with and ultimately dying from AIDS. Found it on YouTube and watched it again at the weekend. I've not stopped thinking about them. It's called "Silverlake life, the view from here" 😭

Also another one, again early to mid 1990s called "The dying room" about China's orphanages.

The Man With the Seven Second Memory. So, so sad.

This is a long shot - I tried asking on a dedicated film site years ago but didn't get any replies.

I think it would be around 1990-93 when I saw a documentary type film (Channel 4 started broadcasting in 82 - it could have been something they broadcast) - it's a tragic, sad heart-breaking story that stuck in my mind although it's all a bit vague. The girlfriend of a photographer/film-maker decided to piece together photos and footage that her boyfriend had taken to document their lives and adventures. I can't remember if it was mainly set in an African or a middle eastern country although they were both westerners - he was a bearded guy and she was a tall attractive long haired blonde model type. They did a lot of travelling on his motorbike. Unfortunately he suffered a very serious head/brain injury as a result of a bike accident. The documentary shows her trying to look after him and coming to terms with the abrupt change in their life as a consequence. Eventually she decided that she must get on and live her own life as she can't no longer be in a relationship with him as he requires so much support. I really wondered if there was a way follow up on that story and find out who they were and what happened after that.

Does anyone remember a documentary about a young social worker in County Durham in mid nineties?

2 boys had lost their mum in a drink drive hit and run, their dad was an alcoholic and their gran was toxic. Eventually they went to their aunties house and social services paid for a loft extension as she already had 4 boys but she then died of cancer ...toxic granny survived to her nineties but then the boys got 100k each victim of crime compensation when they became 18 but ultimely became drug addicts with the money. The social worker herself was as effective as she could have been in the circumstances. Every so often I wonder about her, and the boys. So tragic.

I also clearly recall watching the documentaries about Simon Weston who was horrifically burned during the Falklands War. It was a three parter and followed him in the very early stages of his recovery and a few years later. He was in an awful state, his poor mother trying to help him and he was so angry and traumatised. Hard to believe that happened 40 years ago!

Dreams of a life has always stuck with me.

There was one about children in an orphanage in Bulgaria and they were all so institutionalized it was horrific, this little child just wanted to be held and when he finally got a hug from one of the filmmakers it was just heartbreaking to see how he melted into them, that's all he wanted, some contact. I broke my heart crying watching that. It was on YouTube, Bulgarias Abandoned Children.

This was the one I was thinking of. It was horrible I sobbed and I never cry 😭

The Avici documentary on Netflix. So sad, everyone around him was pushing him constantly.

Three Girls - a 3 part drama done by the bbc about the gangs of asian men grooming and raping vulnerable white girls. It's on Netflix for anyone who wants to see it.

Also, The Big Short - it's a film rather than a documentary, but all true and explains in plain English how the financial crash in 2008 began.

I honestly can't remember the name of the documentary but it was about a young woman called Caraline (spelt just like that) with an eating disorder, she weighed around 4st I think and sadly is no longer with us. She had suffered terrible abuse as a child. I'll never forget her or how sad her story was.

Caraline's Story - she weighed about 4st 7lb and a sample was on the Manic Street Preachers song called 4st 7lb.

The Fyre Festival one
Abducted in Plain Sight (for being absurd)
Dreams of a Life
All the 7-Ups

Hope Frozen: A Quest to Live Twice.
A toddler passes away from brain cancer and her family decide to have her cryogenically frozen in hopes that they'll have a cure for her in the future.

It's on Netflix, I watched it a couple of years ago and it's really stayed with me. There's no detail or scenes of the little girl passing girl away thankfully, its all the aftermath of her death. Watching her family make their decisions is so sad and fascinating, I wasn't sure how to feel by the end.

Me too, so sad. What a wonderful man

The Timothy Treadwell Grizzly one is just so spooky. His Michael Jackson like voice and the quiet of the landscape.... its like the creepiest horror movie

For Sama is amazing but such a hard watch. Kinda glad I watched it though as so much similarity between that & ukraine now.

Cave of Forgotten Dreams. Filmed by Werner Herzog, who had exclusive access to prehistoric caves in France that nobody is normally allowed inside. The artwork is amazing.

Bathtubs Over Broadway is also very good. On Netflix. About a man who collects vinyl records of obscure musicals.

I know 😳😳😳

Where they were hitting her as some sort of fun game, her riding her bike with no shoes on, the things she says and she's clearly quite a bright wee girl.
Also washing the baby under the tap.
It's all kinds of wrong.
