Never been before, heading for the weekend with DP at the end of May.

We are massive foodies and love to do fun things. Please could you hit me up with your favourite restaurants and things to do?

Man behind the curtain is Michelin starred

Reds true bbq is good but you can go to one of their other branches

https://leeds-list.com this is a good website

Dohut is brilliant for donuts that are a bit out there (cereal milk crème pat anyone)

Personal recommendations are the swine that dines fine dining for the win very simple but beautiful and tharavadu which is does food from Kerala, all the chefs are born and raised in the region and it's just beautiful. It was purely vegetarian but now they're not.

What kind of thing do you want?

I Love The Oxford Place www.theoxfordplace.co.uk/ next to the Town Hall (on Oxford Place). It is gluten free but you would never ever know it. Have taken a fair few people there over the years and always been delighted by the food. One friend I took was celiac and was thrilled that she could have everything on the menu. Go. Twice. Or more. (They don't pay me to say this 😁)

GoodJanetBadJanet · 08/05/2022 20:16

I love Roots and Fruits cafe/restaurant in the city centre.
Always lovely food.
It's fully plant based/vegan so if you're someone who has to have meat meals all the time might not be as suitable for you Grin

GiltEdges · 08/05/2022 20:16

Don't bother with Man Behind the Curtain; it's overpriced and pretentious for what is ultimately very average food. If you like steak, Dakota Grill is a good option:

Bundobust is a great veggie Indian restaurant with a good selection of craft beers. The set meal for 2 is fab. It was about £30 loads of really tasty food so great for a lunch.

Summerholidayorcovidagain · 08/05/2022 20:20

The armoury museum..
It's free and fab!

Red's BBQ IS AWFUL - sticky tables, overpriced. There are a hundred better places to eat in Leeds

BarbaraofSeville · 08/05/2022 20:23

Second Bundobust. If you like pizza and craft beer, Tapped is good.

Great street food vans in the trinity centre for lunch.

QforCucumber · 08/05/2022 20:25

What are you into? We are going at the weekend (it’s only an hour away for us) heading first to Power corruption and lies for gyoza and cocktails, then flight club, then the arena for a show. Back to call lane for drinks at jakes and then ending at neon cactus most likely :)

HermioneWeasley · 08/05/2022 20:28

Tattu for fantastic Chinese food
restaurant bar and grill is always good
Moose cafe for breakfast/brunch

art gallery in the city centre

hugoagogo · 08/05/2022 20:31

I used to love Roots and Fruits, but heard it went under.Sad

Potterbore · 08/05/2022 20:33

We had a weekend in Leeds recently.
Moose cafe for American/Canadian breakfast
Pixel Bar for fabulous cocktails and playing games (book a table or gaming booth)
The Drydock for drinks in a converted boat.
The Belgrave for drinks and incredibly tasty pizza
Kirkgate Market for a mooch around the stalls and The Yorkshire Pudding stall - tender slow cooked meat in a pudding wrap.
The Blackhouse steak restaurant for tasty steaks and delicious cocktails.
Junkyard golf for crazy indoor golf with cocktails.
We had a brilliant time 😁

Jaggerdagger · 08/05/2022 20:34

Thanks so much for the fab suggestions! I LOVE steak but DP doesn't eat red meat.

Is Tropical World any good??

Third to Bundobust!

My favourite low key place to eat in Leeds is Little Tokyo, for informal Japanese food.

Other places to see - the Henry Moore Gallery on the Headrow, the Royal Armouries (get the Water Taxi there from the south entrance of the train station, which in itself is worth seeing). If you’re driving - Bob
down the M1 for 20 mins to the Yorkshire Sculpture Park on a dry day (book online first).

GoodJanetBadJanet · 08/05/2022 20:36

@hugoagogo Aw no - didn't realise it had all gone completely.
Knew a while back that they might be closing, but didn't know that they actually had now (haven't been for ages!) Sad
Was a great restaurant.

GoodJanetBadJanet · 08/05/2022 20:37

Really want to try Bundobust too, have heard from others in RL that it's great too.
Also Doner Summer looks amazing

We are very adventurous food-wise, and not really fussy as long as the food is delicious and atmosphere is great! We love a fun activity. Your weekend sounds fab... Enjoy!

A fourth recommendation for Bundobust. House of Fu for lovely ramen noodles. If you like live music and like a very relaxed atmosphere the Belgrave Music Hall is great. The Corn Exchange for nice independent shops.

MoirasWigStand · 08/05/2022 20:39

Tropical world wasn’t great the last time I went a few months ago. I don’t think it has fully recovered from the pandemic.

bogoblin · 08/05/2022 20:40

Fazenda if you're meat eaters!

Jaggerdagger · 08/05/2022 20:41

Checking out Bundobust now!

I love eating out in Leeds- so many good restaurants to choose from! Tattu, gaucho, shears yard, swine that dines would all be on my list for dinner. In the day I would get the water taxi from the station to the royal armouries and have coffee at 200 degrees roast house, then wander back along to granary wharf and have lunch at the Tetley and look round the exhibits. I'd have a mooch round the Victoria quarter for shops and I would have drinks at the sky lounge or maybe the botanist before dinner. I also like Trinity kitchen (food court/street food style) for lunch. I've done a really good brewery tour in Leeds with brewtown tours if that's your kind of thing. There's often good things (esp comedy) on at the carriage works theatre and often good live music at the Wardrobe.

Tropical World is not a bad way of for spending a few hours, it’s never crossed my mind to go without children. It’s a bit of a leafy hot house, with butterflies and birds flying around, then lots of insects/fish in tanks, some meerkats and some lemurs and other animals that like the dark. I’ve not been for about 4 years, but it was looking a bit run down last time I was there.,

DH would say Bryan’s in Headingley is a foodie must do for fish n chips. Most Leodians would say it’s Murgatroyd’s by the airport.
