Taking bins out at luxury Air Bnb?

Very first world concern by the way! Just interested if this is the norm or not. We are staying in a very special "luxury" Air Bnb in a European city for DH's big birthday. The place cost me a lot of hard earned money to rent for a weekend as a one-off treat. It's very luxurious and lovely. The manager of the AirBnb has asked us to take our rubbish to the bins before we check out. The bins are a 5-10 minute walk down the block.

I thought that as the place is getting cleaned etc we would be ok to leave rubbish? (We don't have much as we have been out everyday anyway.)

Is this to be expected or a bit annoying? Again I know it's only a first world problem and I'm not too precious to take the bins out, but I'm just asking as I was surprised, and thought that a luxury special holiday is the one time I might not have to do the bins.

I don't know why people are referring to stinky rubbish so much. We stayed in a city penthouse, and went out to eat for every meal. The only rubbish was some coffee pods and a couple of tissues.

You might only have left a couple of tissues and coffee pods and eat out every meal- but, from personal experience of cleaning my own holiday let, the vast majority of our guests at least produce lots of food waste- especially if they have had sea food or tried the local delicacies (andouilette Envy). And that's before we get to disposable nappies, sanpro and condoms... I do not think iabu to ask guests to sort out their own rubbish. I don't mind popping round first thing in bin day to put the bins out- but rummage through that lot? Yuk.

In which case not many Airbnb owners would be bothered by you leaving that in the bin. The request is usually because it can sometimes be a day or two after you leave when cleaners/owners can access the property in which time a bin full of veg and raw meat can attract Vernon and start to smell. It's also to e.g. encourage the shit for brains parents to bin rather than leave a tower of dirty nappies on top of a bathroom bin for me to deal with.

I don't expect anyone to clean, strip beds or do anything more than just be respectful. I don't even mind a few glasses/cups in the sink unwashed. I expect rubbish to be removed and spills or large messes to be dealt with. The outside bin is 10 seconds away next to where guests park their car. My little welcome book says 'we appreciate you removing your rubbish to the outdoor bins on checkout'

We've had guests who left the place looking like the Mary Celeste. Nothing washed up, half a loaf cutup on the counter, crumbs everywhere, an open marmalade pot and the sticky knife left on the counter, dollops of some red/brown sticky stuff on the kitchen floor, a milk leakage in the fridge, a trodden on cookie on the lounge carpet, bedroom side tables strewn with tissues, bathroom had empty bottles of shampoo and cosmetics lying on the floor and contact lens packets, the aforementioned tower of dirty nappies. I'm guessing that's how they thought they were getting around the 'take the bins out' request. They didn't use them!

I've always emptied bins at an air b and b but really I prefer staying in hotels. I empty enough bins at home!

Ohilovetorave · 02/05/2022 22:33

I run an Airbnb and I empty the bins and do the washing up every day for my guests. It always surprises them in a nice way but also means I can keep on top of any rubbish or washing up just accumulating.

Stuff like this is why i use hotels and not airbnb

Me too, I'll book a luxury hotel over Air B&B any day.
The stories you hear on this site only makes me never want to book anything but a hotel. I'm on holiday I'm not getting up at the crack of dawn to do the cleaning for the owners or taking out their bins before a 10 am check out. I'll roll out of bed pack and check out.

Yes, we even had to follow special recycling rules at ours, as that was the way it was collected using about 7 bins! Quite confusing for a 7 night stay.

But yes, bins, dishes and a wipe around so the cleaner cleans and maybe puts away a few draining dishes, but not any horrible personal grime. That's my view.

Rented a flat in central Rome for 5 days ( not Airbnb) - there was a full A4 sheet of instructions about which recycling bin had to be taken to which little local square/junction ( 3 different locations) at what time slot on which day. The time slot was for a mechanised skip that only sat there for 3 hours. It certainly made us feel were living as part of the local community, lining up with elegantly dressed business men, nuns, elderly ladies with tiny dogs etc !

That's fine for me to put in bold at the start of my post?

@SmileyClare you are so disingenuous. You know I wasn't querying you using bold. You deliberately cut and pasted two snippets from two different posters and spliced them together to make it look like a direct quote.

You know you did this. IMO you're only being so snidey because you've been caught out.

I apologise for inferring you found emptying bins stressful ok?

Report it if you like. I have bigger problems to worry about.

@SmileyClare Once again a disingenuous reply. My issue is with you going to the trouble of deliberately misquoting me by falsifying previous posts, as you well know. So don't pretend you don't know the real reason I've called you out. It's so fake.

You've got "bigger problems to worry about" yet you still found the time to copy and paste 2 peoples posts to make one fake quote. A big Hmm to that.

I'm not engaging with you anymore as I don't need fake people's input.

I ask guests to leave their rubbish and recycling so I can make sure it's disposed of in the correct bins. There have been too many cases of guests dumping all their recycling plus sundry rubbish into the cardboard and glass containers.

I don't ask anyone to strip the beds either. People are on holiday in order to get away from domestic stuff. My job is to do all the crap stuff.

SmileyClare · 03/05/2022 18:05

Oh let it go for fucks sake. I m old, I couldn't copy and paste on here if you paid me, I simply bolded a sentiment from another poster at the start of my post that you had whole heartedly agreed with.

There's an old quote "a complaining soul will find something to complain about even in paradise"

You've had a lovely holiday in a beautiful place yet are finding fault with one little thing, in this case having to throw a bag of rubbish away. It seems so petty to me.

grapehyacinthisactuallyblue · 03/05/2022 18:45

Op, anyone can go back and check what you have said, and others have said. So, you really don't need to keep on calling SmileyClare a fake, disingenuous etc.
Sounds too fixated to me, and it really doesn't make you look good.

SmileyClare · 03/05/2022 19:23

Thanks grapehyacinthisactuallyblue. Op I didn't intend to fake quote you or whatever. I hope we can let that go now, I apologise for swearing.

I misquoted the old quote too, it's actually " A thankful soul is thankful under all circumstances, a complaining soul will complain even in paradise"
I should probably steer clear of quoting anything in future haha.

TheWayoftheLeaf · 03/05/2022 20:24

It's to stop bugs/rats I assume from gathering before the cleaner gets there. They don't know if there's rotting food etc.
