I've followed this case as much as possible but it's not high profile as others.

A man has been charged with her murder as well as her toddler. A separate charge of rape of a child
truly awful case

Please remember her and her children.

(sorry wording was ambivalent: sb: 'I hope he remains in prison until his death')

Horrific case, the poor woman and child.
He should never be freed.

I noticed the age gap too @Plitvice. One of the BBC news articles mentioned Jellica’s father had reported them missing, and the article said he was 65, which shocked me.

accused told police he killed missing woman Bennylyn Burke www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-tayside-central-64424265 BBC News Article

Warning: the details in the article are very distressing.

Blimey. It really sounds like she was sexually exploited by various older men in her short lifetime.

Sarah Everard got massive coverage about a week after she disappeared and only then because her wide network of family and friends tirelessly raised awareness, much in the same way as Nicola Bulley’s family and friends are now. I wonder if Bennylyn and her children were more isolated and had much less local and family support and resources to keep the disappearance high profile. We can see how quickly the police tried to shut down the NB case - it’s her family who have kept pushing and speaking to the media. We are always trying so hard to frame everything through a racial lens and so often on closer examination it doesn’t stack up.

Hi all,
We have made a few deletions on this thread. We completely understand the need to talk about this horrific case, but we'd ask you to be very cautious when it comes to anything that might identify anyone.

I have also tried to follow this but there has been virtually no national coverage. Have they found their remains?

There's coverage on the BBC news site, if you click UK and then Scotland you will find the articles.

My God. I remember reading about this case when it happened.

Am I correct in understanding that they met on a dating site and he killed them the first time he met them or something along those lines?

The violence that men continue to show towards women really upsets me and gets me angry. An innocent mum and toddler killed for what? Absolutely nothing?! And then the surviving child has to live with not only being raped, but losing her mum and sister to her abuser? That’s too much for anyone to put up with, let alone a child.

Thank you for posting this OP

Comments have been deleted which may have identified the other child involved.

Oh this is one of the most horrific things I've ever read. That he kept the older child for days/weeks after killing Bennylyn and Jellica.
Clearly targeted young women on dating sites who had young children.

EllieQ · 07/02/2023 19:28

The latest BBC article says exactly that @ChildminderMum - he had a list ranking women on the dating site, and they all had young children (near the end of this article).

My God you can see how tiny Bennylyn was in that article 😢

CherryPieface · 07/02/2023 19:41

It’s one of the most awful cases and the police think he is likely to have abused/killed others. I’m from Dundee and it is truly shocking.

God, that’s horrifying. I was so thrown by the awfulness of this case that I didn’t even get to the point of wondering if he might have other victims.

Feeling quite conscious now of my own naivety/privilege, compared to people who have to think about this kind of thing for their own safety or for work.

Of course there must be others, whether he’s actually killed before or not — he must have worked up to something this bad.

😞
