I've followed this case as much as possible but it's not high profile as others.

A man has been charged with her murder as well as her toddler. A separate charge of rape of a child
truly awful case

Please remember her and her children.

It was reported nationally at the time. I remember it. 2 women and 1 child are killed every week sadly.

It was 'widely reported' in Scotland at least, just not UK-wide because it happened in Scotland.

She went missing from England.
I do agree with Scottish news not being widely reported. I'm from Edinburgh so well aware of that case

I live near to where this happened. I am well aware of it as it has been al over the Scottish/local news. Not every incident like this makes it to the national news. Sadly there are too many of them for that to be feasible.

It was widely reported. I live in Gloucestershire and remember it when she went missing and then when the bodies were subsequently found. When they were missing there were a lot of appeals.

Stylishkidintheriot · 04/07/2022 23:48

i posted on mn (under a different username), as I I was horrified by the lack of press attention. I live locally and know people who lived very close to the murders. At the time I felt like it was because she was not the right sort of victim. As time goes by I think there may be parts to this that the press won’t be allowed to report

However, justice was done today, and he has been sentenced to life, with a 36 year tariff

Yet another incidence of male violence against women and children.

Absolutely horrific. RIP Bennylyn and Jellica Burke.

Thesystemonlydreamsintotaldarkness · 06/02/2023 16:35

Absolutely nothing will bring them back. Nothing. And the trauma that the other child is going through must be imaginable (I’m not being disrespectful I’m not using their name: I’m just unsure if it’s in the public domain)

I don’t believe in the death penalty. But would be willing to make an exception in this case.

Its horrifying to know that this man who appeared to be normal, living a normal life in Dundee could be such a monster.

May Bennylyn and Jellica Rest In Peace. May their family have comfort

Hi, there was anger on this site in 2021. I know; because I started a thread and it was zapped. Basically because I expressed concern around how the “right” type of victims are reported against how Bennylyn and Jellica were reported.

AuxArmesCitoyens · 06/02/2023 17:44

Yes I remember this being discussed on here at the time.

This is one of the worst cases I can remember reading about.

I wish I could believe that man was capable of reaching a point where he understands the enormity of what he’s done, at some stage during the next 36 years. But I don’t think he’s got it in him. Monstrous.

Poor Bennylyn and her poor baby 😢 I hope Innes gets the shit kicked out of him in prison every day.

HoldingTheDoor · 06/02/2023 19:56

I hope that Bennylyn and Jellica rest in peace and that the other child can heal as much as possible in time. I can't imagine the family's pain.

And If anyone deserves to die a long painful death it's this piece of shit. Let's hope that he does and soon.

The hatred that so many men have for women is staggering iand terrifying. I think it's even more widespread than we know

It was reported in the media this week as the trial was ongoing and the media can report on the facts of the case then.

I am so glad to hear this. I’ve been thinking about her a lot since this happened.

gawditswindy · 06/02/2023 21:54

That is wonderful news @Quveas. One tiny glimmer of hope to come from this heartbreaking story.

I hope he really suffers in jail.

Paintsplatter · 06/02/2023 22:53

There is a media ban protecting the older child's identity. I realize people are expressing there sympathy for the child here, but there are several comments that identify her. Please remove them asap.

It wasn't ongoing when she was missing, was it? And there was still no focus.

54isanopendoor · 07/02/2023 08:33

RIP Bennylyn & Jellica. I hope that the older child is able to heal & flourish.

It would perhaps be morally justifiable if prison officers looked the other way every day of the 36 years that the murderer Innes is in prison. I read that Bennylyn's sister said she was able to forgive, as God does so she does.
That is remarkable of her. I am not sure I could say the same in her shoes.
A terribly sad waste of young lives. I hope he dies in prison.
