Two big pans and splitting the omelette in two will give you four.

Arianya · 23/04/2022 07:46

Make one for your partner and they eat it while you cook yours. Or put it on a hot plate while you cook the second one, which takes literally seconds.

MrsLargeEmbodied · 23/04/2022 07:46

split the omelette?

MrsLargeEmbodied · 23/04/2022 07:47

Make a big one in one pan and divide it up, frittata style?

LollyLol · 23/04/2022 07:50

They’re so quick to make, my mum just used to put a heap of salad and bread and butter on the table, everyone would start on the salad and the omelettes came out one by one. There was always the “two eggs or three” debate, and mine was always last because I wanted mushrooms not cheese. Happy times, thank you for jogging that memory!

GlumyGloomer · 23/04/2022 07:53

I am amazed that people make individual omelettes for a family meal. Always done one big one cut into slices.

FleeceNavidadfromtheSheep · 23/04/2022 07:54

This. Fillings are prepped, sides ready, plates warmed. Then the cook knocks them out one at a time for the ravening hoards. Takes 5 minutes to do 5.

Or do a Spanish omelette with potatoes and onion slowly cooked in olive oil, followed by the egg, then grilled to finish. Serve a wedge each.

Perfect28 · 23/04/2022 07:57

I always just make a huge one and split it, I too am shocked anyone makes individual ones!!

MrsLargeEmbodied · 23/04/2022 07:59

how many eggs for a huge one?
two per person?

I can’t believe people make individual ones! I make a big frittata and serve in slices

ThreeRingCircus · 23/04/2022 08:04

I love a proper, folded individual omelette filled with cheese but if I'm doing it for a family meal (we're a family of four) I would do it as more of a spanish style omelette in one big pan then put under the grill and serve a slice. I usually use six eggs for that which ends up plenty if you also have cheese/ham/veg in it and salad and/or bread on the side.

bumblingbovine49 · 23/04/2022 08:08

I.dont flip the omelette. I make a 5-6 egg one by cooking veg in a frying pan , adding the beaten egg and cheese etc, cooking on hob then under the grill to finish cooking the top. So frittata style. It tastes just as good to me but you can split it into 2-3 portions

MinorWomensWhiplash1 · 23/04/2022 09:11

I prefer individual ones. I just whip up the egg (3 per person) and have all the ingredients ready then make them one at a time, only takes a couple of minutes each.

Exactly this. I do one for two and there is always a portion for tomorrows lunch

gogohm · 23/04/2022 10:05

Two pans - one veggie one with meat normally. I used to make the kids first (2 eggs each) then the adult ones, 3 eggs each

ilovemyelectriccar · 23/04/2022 10:21

Rather depends on what sort of omelette you mean.
Spanish omelette (frittata), make large one and slice.
French omelette (folded over filling), make individual omelettes. If you slice it, the filling falls out.

i cook a french omelette
i must question further the person that said they were making omelettes for a family of 4

An omelette takes about 30 seconds doesn't it? There was a food show where guests would cook an omelette...

mrsm43s · 23/04/2022 19:28

I cook 2 4-egg omelettes, using 2 pans.

I fold over, French style, and then serve half an omelette per person.

This is also good for giving options - ie just cheese for the kids, maybe something different for DH and I etc

I've only ever done Spanish omelettes. I usually fry some onions, left over potatoes with a bit of spice, add a few peas and sliced cheese over the top and everyone has a slice....

But now I'm fancying the look of a French omelette and may try that next time!

MrsLargeEmbodied · 23/04/2022 19:38

i love a mushroom and cheese omelette
thanks for the tips

MrsLargeEmbodied · 23/04/2022 19:40

i was taught to cook the ingredients in a separate pan and add to the egg, but now i cook mushrooms and add the eggs to the same pan, grate cheese, under the grill for a bit - takes me more than 30 seconds Grin

They're so quick it's not like people are waiting very long, a minute or two. Pre cook the veg in a separate pan if you're doing mushroom or whatever.

Or you can do a big baked one. You need a good non stick tray (eg Scoville) but you then just oven cook the filling and pour beaten eggs over. I do potato, chorizo, onion, pepper and pour over 8 eggs into a standard size roasting tray.

4 portions if served with salads, bread etc.
