I was 38. I moved out of London and used the equity from owning a 1 bed flat in London for a decade to buy a small 3 bed house on the coast, cash.

I'm thinking of getting a new mortgage though as we need a bigger house now the DC are older.

I’ll be 48 by our current mortgage but I expect we’ll move and take a bigger mortgage as our current place is small & was a real do-er upper! x

Pourmeanotherwine · 21/04/2022 22:17

I was 50

2pinkginsplease · 21/04/2022 22:18

49 though probably could do it sooner.

giggbig · 21/04/2022 22:18

It's dependent on so many factors though. I could move tmw & be mortgage free but I like where I live.

72, just extended it to a new 28 year term. But realistically it will be before that. I’ll likely inherit enough before then which will clear it.
Alternatively I have a rental I could cash in.

I’m not in any rush to clear it, life is for living.

I'll be 50. We've chosen a shorter term with the highest monthly payment we can afford for the last 6 years (with room for interest rate increase). May change if we want to up size or release some equity.

generalh · 21/04/2022 22:21

I was 49. Now 55. So glad we paid more in the latter years.

Lovinglife45 · 21/04/2022 22:21

The worst thing for us is our home is too small, however we cannot financially stretch from a 2.5 bed (3rd is a box room), to a 4 bed.
