Aiming for before 55

Depends on investment performance and interest rate changes. If investments keep outperforming our mortgage interest we’ll keep it going. If not, probably 8 years so I’ll be 43

HoobleDooble · 21/04/2022 22:25

If I pay it off at the end of my current fixed term, 53. If I leave it to run its course 58. Or I could do it tomorrow at 49. I have recently inherited enough money to do it so am mulling things over while it's at 1%.

countdowntonap · 21/04/2022 22:27

Hopefully 45 unless we lend more to get another extension, but not considering that too deeply at the moment. DH will be 48.

49, in July. Will be brief, though, as we need to do some work to the house (DC have been busy destroying it while we've been paying it off ), so will have to remortgage. Probably a modest amount of work as neither of us have the appetite for large amounts of debt now.

MadameDragon · 21/04/2022 22:28

I was 34. You probably have more space than me though.

LightEveningsAreBack · 21/04/2022 22:30

43 for this house. We'll be moving to a bigger house (once the house prices calm down) which will probably take us until we are around 60 to pay off.

BeingATwatItsABingThing · 21/04/2022 22:30

58 I think. Will likely move at least once though so that will change.

Louise0701 · 21/04/2022 22:31

46

TheBatKeeper · 21/04/2022 22:32

I was 53 ish which makes Dh 59 ish

We then took out a small mortgage £40k ( cheaper at the time than a personal loan) we could have cleared that in two years, but the fixed rate and term was the best product available at the time. We have continued to clear it down to the point where we had £1,000 owing on it.

We are saving a lot at the moment, so in a moment of silliness last month we have reduced it to £170 between now and next April (when the product ends)

Our repayments going forward are £10 a month. Grin

The repayment fees are vicious, so it won't be happening anytime soon, but in the last six months, I want to know if I can do £1 a week.

We have been on the mortgage hamster wheel for 34 years, so to all of you it will happen, I know you don't believe me but it will.

My mother used to tell me to stop moaning about the mortgage because at the end of the day, it was just rent on steroids.

Cheeseycheeseycheesecheese · 21/04/2022 22:32

At the moment 50, however we need a bigger house, so probably will be 60+

CallmeIT · 21/04/2022 22:33

65

If I’d not divorced at 40 it would have been 50. But life happens.

Lovelydovey · 21/04/2022 22:33

38

BlubFestival · 21/04/2022 22:36

On current term 61 which we'll keep to if we decide we have one more move in us. If we stay put (likely. We're lazy) then will pay off early - 55 I think.

pumpkinpie01 · 21/04/2022 22:36
  1. Took it out at 25 but had to keep extending the term when I was a single mum so I could afford to stay in the house .
onlywork55 · 21/04/2022 22:42

68 on current term! But we plan to overpay once nursery fees are out of the way. Aiming to have it cleared by 60 at the latest.

Blossomtoes · 21/04/2022 22:43

I was 62 but I rented until I was 38.

I couldn’t get my first mortgage until 34, so whatever size my house was I wouldn’t have paid it off by then!

Cheesechips · 21/04/2022 22:45

65 but hoping to pay it off before then.

What's holding you back?
Starseeking · 21/04/2022 22:46

66, although by overpaying I'm aiming to take it down to 60.

Strawberry0909 · 21/04/2022 22:48

I'll be 59, unless we extend the term to extend in a few years

HorribleHerstory · 21/04/2022 22:51

I was 26 when I paid off my first mortgage but then I took out another, for which I’ll be 42.

Wallywobbles · 21/04/2022 22:53

Mortgage one 39. Mortgages 2,3,4,5 at 55.

LovelyYellowLabrador · 21/04/2022 22:53

just rent on steroids. What does she mean by that as in most cases it’s cheaper then rent ?
