My friend thinks menopause is a load of old bollocks.

And I'm currently going through it. Struggling with an apple belly I never had before/hot flushes/exhaustion/sleeplessness/& terrible stiffness & pelvic aches. I'm mid 50s & she's 48. Do you think some women genuinely sail through with no symptoms?

What I've found weird lately is that different people have insisted that men suffer from menopause too. I mean I'm sure they suffer from age related problems, but not of the same kind.
Is there nothing men won't try and take from women

Well that’s the strange thing, cos both times it was women who said it, and it made me wonder if there was some subconscious desire for it to be true.

Some people do sail through the menopause and hardly notice. My godmother said hers was a breeze.

Look at her & say - yet

Mine really wasn’t particularly bad. I had an early menopause (early 40s) and am now 50. My last few periods were very heavy and accompanied by awful migraines, and then they just stopped and that was it.

HopelesslyOptimistic · 19/04/2022 22:47

I'm one of those women that thinks you really can eat and exercise yourself to wellness both inside and out, no matter what your age. HOWEVER, that is until I started going down that path of life. The stiffness in every inch of my body each morning I wake up is terrifying me. Menopause arthritis I believe. Fluid around my joints evaporating. It truly is no joke. My appetite has depleted & I have the first time in my life FAT around my middle. Hot sweats I've avoided thankfully. I don't believe in the medical model
If pumping my system with drugs but ready to read up on HRT. My body feels 102!

Disneydatknee88 · 19/04/2022 22:50

Menopause deniers are the same people that have never had an uncomfortable period or PMS. I'm nowhere near menopause but I am dreading it. It's real. Hormones control the female body, its science!

Dancer47 · 19/04/2022 23:05

I was thin, fit and very happy when menopause came. A vegetarian and a power lifter. 5 years of hell - I had to sleep in a separate room to DH as the sweating was epic, plus menopausal onset asthma, bowel problems, disc problems - all due to low oestrogen the docs have said. I can't have HRT. I am a wreck compared to what I was.
My mother had absolutely no symptoms at all - her periods just stopped and she said she felt a clarity about life now that the hormone fog had lifted!
You never know.

knowinglesseveryday · 19/04/2022 23:12

I sailed through menopause, with half a dozen 3 minute hot flushes. Some years ago. I never told people that, though! It's insensitive.

sobeyondthehills · 19/04/2022 23:14

One sister sailed through, other sister has it minor apparently.

I am really hoping genetics plays a part in it

Wheresmywoolyjumpers · 19/04/2022 23:19

I think she is a twat. Even if she has it easy, how can you deny it is hard for others. Its like someone who gets pregnant easily saying they dont believe in infertility. What a horrible misogynistic viewpoint.

BitOutOfPractice · 19/04/2022 23:22

Does she not believe on any condition she’s never had? It’s like me saying I don’t believe in IBS or migraines or broken arms because I’ve never had those things personally. Ridiculous woman!

DrBrennerFan · 19/04/2022 23:25

She can have 10 years of hell with my menopause she won’t say it bullocks then.

DustyMaiden · 19/04/2022 23:27

I am 60, periods stopped
Dead at 58. No symptoms of any kind.

Weeteeny · 19/04/2022 23:32

I'm.52 and genuinely have no symptoms at all that I have noticed as yet. My periods are probably a bit lighter than 10.years ago but that's it honestly.
However I am totally accepting of the menopause and worried what could be in store for me. My periods started late so probably in two years time I'll be in the same boat as my friends.
Saying that, I have genuinely never had a period pain in my life so maybe I will be one of the minority and have no significant menopause symptoms ! Bloody hope so.

Nutsabouttopic · 19/04/2022 23:35

My mum sailed through the menopause, only indication she had was that here periods stopped. I thought that I would be the same 😂😂😂😂😂
I suffered and still suffer daily. Anxiety, low mood, loss of confidence, digestive issues, dry eyes. I am on hrt and yes it does work. I'm in a much better place but it doesn't give me my life back. The emotional and mental issues are far worse than the physical issue.
So yes some women sail through but the vast majority don't

BOOTS52 · 19/04/2022 23:44

Tell her to feck off as am going through peri for years and the exhaustion is awful and now taking hrt and the pain in my side of right boob when taking progesterone is awful, like a coat hanger being shoved in there. Lucky her who is having it easy but maybe it has yet to hit her. Are you taking anything for it, hrt helping with brain fog though.
