It’s supersede, not supercede.

Discrete and discreet are both words, but they mean different things.

MakeMineAdoubleChocolate · 17/04/2022 17:49

I can't bare it
Alot
Brought instead of bought when referring to something you have bought
Chester draws
Draws
Chest of draws
Defiantly instead of definitely
Perthetic
Aksing / aks instead of ask.
She borrowed me fifty bucks. It's loaned or I borrowed.
Babs instead of babes.
I pacifically said. Instead of specifically.
WE ordered desert instead of dessert.
Ect instead of etc.

Dibdobdoo · 17/04/2022 17:55

"Allowed/aloud"
Omg i see this several times a day on one Facebook group and it drives me crazy.
Sometimes,i think that they must doubt themselves as theyve read it so many times incorrectly !

Lonelycrab · 17/04/2022 18:16

Necessary always gets me.

But most common ones I think are:

They’re there their
And confusing of with off, as in “I have the day of”

Wavingnotdrown1ng · 17/04/2022 18:17

@Zazdar

License/licence. I have no idea which is which. Or how to remember.

A licence. To license. Like practice and practise.

Advice and advise are often mixed up, despite them not sounding the same.

Also, the ones with an ‘s’ are verbs; the ones with a ‘c’ are nouns. E.g. I practise piano. I need to do my piano practice.

Oh also breaks instead of brakes. “This car/bike has good breaks”

amicissimma · 17/04/2022 18:24

No one. How hard is it to tap the space bar?

The way to remember the advice/advise, licence/license, practice/practise, etc, words is that if it takes a c it is a noun and if it takes an s it is a verb. Therefore you give advice, but advise a person.

amicissimma · 17/04/2022 18:24

Oops. Cross posted.

KirstenBlest · 17/04/2022 18:26

TheChippendenSpook · 17/04/2022 18:31

Women and woman are often misused on here.

Foxyloxy1plus1 · 17/04/2022 18:32

Yes, it’s brakes.

Never Eat Crab, Eat Salmon Sandwiches And Remain Young is a mnemonic for necessary.

BasilParsley · 17/04/2022 18:35

Around the turn of the year 2000 century milestone - it was correctly described sometimes as "the millennium" but more often than not as "the milennium" or the millenium"

Kezzie200 · 17/04/2022 18:36

Does .... dose! Drives me nuts as my husband always spells it wrong!

MintyIguana · 17/04/2022 18:40

Complement and compliment are often confused. Complimentary drinks.... but the cheese is served with a complementary wine.

Lonelycrab · 17/04/2022 18:47

Isnt it brakes?

Yes, my example was of the wrong way to spell it, that’s not clear from my post thoughBlush

A car has brakes.
If you drop a glass it breaks.

navydear · 17/04/2022 18:49

Angel 😇 or angle
Principal or principle
Personal or personnel

Main ones for me

LizBennet · 17/04/2022 18:49

Came to say no one. Noone is just ridiculous. I can read past incorrect they/they're/their, you're/your, NOONE annoys me.

itsgettingweird · 17/04/2022 19:12

My ds cracked me up the other week when he spelt kept as 'kepted'. Grin

I mean following the rules of past tense he isn't totally wrong. But the kid cannot spell for toffee and all attempts to teach him have failed.

Housewife2010 · 17/04/2022 19:17

On social media there is a lot of "Devine" for "divine".
