What’s the maximum you would pay out on a swimsuit ?

I’m thinking as you get older into your 40s you need to pay more

I have 2 from boden. I think they were about £50-£60.

lljkk · 16/04/2022 20:29

pay more for what?
What features are you after, I mean.

I only want one for pool lanes & I don't think paying >£35 gets me anything better than I would get by paying < £35.

roses2 · 16/04/2022 20:31

I'm 43 and just bought a Tommy Bahama swimsuit and La Blanca swimsuit both in the ~$130 RRP albeit £35 each new with tags from ebay.

I'm finding now I'm in my 40s and earn well I like to have nice quality things.

I don’t think I need to pay more. I’ve got more money to spend than when I was younger!

IamChipmunk · 16/04/2022 20:34

I agree. I look crap in swimwear and its hard to find anything that fits nicely. I wear a tankini but like decent bum coverage so size up on the bottoms but am small on the top. Size 10 top, size 14 bottoms
I had a nice one from figleaves and hav just got a new one from boden to replace it as it was worn out. Was quite expensive but does fit nicely and looks nice so worth it.
Im 41 if that's relevant.

LovePoppy · 16/04/2022 20:34

$120-$140
Need good coverage and fits a large chest

CMOTDibbler · 16/04/2022 20:37

I spent £120 on my best cossie, and it is a thing of beauty and I feel great in it.

Moonface123 · 16/04/2022 20:43

l got a couple of nice ones from Amazon, they are similar to a very short dress but look flattering. I think they were approx £23.00.

LovelyYellowLabrador · 16/04/2022 20:51

Oh it’s good to hear some of these brands as I can Google them
I’ve found day sea folly the fabric is so much bette road lasts so much longer it’s actaully better value in the end

£160-170 if it was amazing , super high quality and fit well ( ie from OUTNET ! )

I own a LOT of swimwear and tend to wear the same favorites over again

I also own great swimsuits from Asda / M and S and / sainsburys though 🤣

What brands work well for you? I have similar issues

I like sea folly !

Bex268 · 16/04/2022 20:59

Totally agree! I’m 37, had my first baby two years ago and my eyes were really opened to how much my body had changed when I went shopping for swimwear 🤣🤣. I’m now realising very quickly that high quality is the way forward if I want to feel comfortable in my new postpartum body.

ISeeTheLight · 16/04/2022 21:00

I have paid £100 ish before for a fantastic set from Primadonna. Great quality, superb fit for a larger bust.

emmathedilemma · 16/04/2022 21:08

I’ve been wearing Speedo’s same style since I in my teens! I’m not particularly tall but I often find swimsuits are too short in the body.

nursingcomplete · 16/04/2022 21:10

Probably about £60 but I have my eye on a real nice one for £130 and I'm probably going to end up buying it

JaninaDuszejko · 16/04/2022 21:12

But you will know some brands are better than others for regular pool swimming. In my experience Zoggs are indestructable (I swim 5 times a week) whereas any fashion brand and far too many sports brands fall apart within a year. My niece is a very good swimmer and pays £150+ for swimming costumes for racing. Her training suits are cheaper though.

£30
I swim a lot and the chlorine ruins them so I don’t spend too much.

WellTidy · 16/04/2022 21:47

I like seafolly but I find they come up quite small. It may be that there is less stretch in them as they’re so thick. In a good way!

I paid £55 for a bikini 30 odd years ago.

Dickopf · 16/04/2022 21:48

Bloody Hell. I paid a tenner in Sports Direct for a plain black racer-back swimsuit. It has been doing the job perfectly for about 10 years.

NameChange74567 · 16/04/2022 21:55

I've just paid £54 for one from John Lewis. Probably wouldn't spend much more than £70 on one.

LovePoppy · 17/04/2022 00:17

@stevalnamechanger a Canadian brand called la vie en rose.
I love curvy Kate bras though and keep eyeing up their suits

SewingBees · 17/04/2022 07:16

Body shape changes mean I need something with internal support now. I bought one in John Lewis recently for around £50 and was happy to pay that for a decent supportive costume with good coverage. But I also bought a fabulous one in Decathlon for £15.

Lady0racle · 17/04/2022 07:19

£20 absolute max. I don’t swim often and there’s no way I’d pay more.
