Do you forget your own age?

For the past couple of years I've been 42 or 43. I spent a year believing I was 43 when I was only 42. I've just done a literal google on what age I am and have found I'm still only 42 with a few months to go until 43. But it's been like two years!

Just me who forgets?

No. I’m 44 and I’ve never forgot or had to think about it. I do regularly have to think about how old my DH is though

EasterDecorations · 12/04/2022 07:32

No, I just know. Mid 50s, don't make a big deal of birthdays. But alway know how old I am.

MrsLargeEmbodied · 12/04/2022 07:52

absolutely
i saw it written on my prescription recently - that was a shock

MrsLargeEmbodied · 12/04/2022 07:54

i mean i do know my age, of course, but seeing it written down is shocking

Lightning020 · 12/04/2022 08:04

Brain fog as we get older for some of us. Can recommend vitamin B6.

I wish I could forget my own age. Why I cannot forget my own age is because I am 58 and 8 years off the state pension soon and concerned about my future. I digress.

Whelmed · 12/04/2022 08:09

Yes I keep forgetting I'm 39, and keep thinking I'm 38. I spent a whole year in my 20s thinking I'm 28 when in fact I was 26. They seemed such similar numbers and inconsequential difference that I hadn't bothered to double check my maths on that one.

MrsDThomas · 12/04/2022 09:05

Yep. Sometime I forget if im 47 or 48. And i also get mixed up with the date i got married

RedScarfJamjar · 12/04/2022 09:08

Yes, all the time. I spent the period from 34-36 thinking I was 38 and then recently was convinced I was 43 on my birthday and had to be reminded by my best friend (who has her birthday before me) that we are now both 44. Absolutely threw me for about 3 weeks and now I've had to readjust all my life plans.

For those who forget your age, do you have same problem with your salary? I work in NHS and I know my salary is either low 30's 40's or 50's but have to constantly look at agenda for change to check. I now know, after several times looking that it is low 40's but took me such a long time.
I think I have undiagnosed ADHD which I think it's partly the reason for my crap recall.

Haggisfish3 · 12/04/2022 12:01

I don’t know my exact salary, no. I just don’t think they are that important to know as an absolute number, I guess!

lightand · 12/04/2022 12:04

Gosh yes!
Doesnt help that my DH is 6 months older than me and born in the previous year, at the end of it.
So eg right now, he is going to be eg 52 , while I am still 50 but will be 51 shortly. I can see it is confusing, even just writing that down.

I actually went 6 months once, even putting on legal forms, my wrong age. oops.

MrsDThomas · 12/04/2022 15:27

I have no idea what my annual salary us (apart from being crap). I know my monthly take home pay but annual before tax etc?

No idea without logging on on the work portal.

YanTanTetheraPetheraPimp · 12/04/2022 15:49

Yes, spent last year thinking I was 68 when I wasn’t until December 🥴

ivfbabymomma1 · 12/04/2022 17:17

I thought I was 33 until I checked due to this thread and I'm actually 34 so yeah?

frogsbreath · 12/04/2022 17:20

At one point I thought I was three years older than I was, after I reached 35 I did that thing where an elderly person or young child rounds up a year. So 2 is "almost 3" and "I'm 89 on my next birthday".

I just got confused and it was a very happy day when I realised I was much younger Grin

cecinestpasunepipe · 12/04/2022 17:41

I thought my last birthday was my 70th and basked in all the compliments telling me I didn't look it. I didn't look it because I wasn't! It was my 69th. So embarrassing having to backtrack!

AchillesLastStand · 12/04/2022 17:59

I’m the same age as you OP and I keep thinking I’m 42! I never used to be like this so maybe the older you get the less important your age becomes to you unless you’re in a milestone year.

losingthemind · 12/04/2022 18:38

Yes, and failed a security "what age will you be on your next birthday" question because of it.....

SophieG121 · 12/04/2022 19:23

Yes, DH is nine months older than me so once he's had his birthday in January I seem to unintentionally round my own age up to be the same as him.

I did it last week to a mum at a baby group and then realised my mistake when I was driving home after.

Xpologog · 12/04/2022 19:52

No but some days I think HOW old???????😳

redredredredlorry · 12/04/2022 20:18

@SophieG121 I came on to say exactly the same. Same year group at school so we're the same age in my head.

Jules912 · 12/04/2022 20:41

I often have to think about it. I'd blame Covid but it's been an issue since DS was born ( I think because his birthday is close to mine so "missed" a birthday in the newborn haze).

I know my exact salary every year even though it goes up by 50 quid
