Is George Foreman grill good for this? My kids decided it's their favorite

Another vote for non stick pan and butter the outsides of the bread. A proper American grilled cheese 🤤

Katnissneverdone Absolutley! They are gorgeous arent they? Favourite filling Cheese and pineapple .Remember these from Student days .Still taste amazing!

You already have a perfect toastie maker - any frying pan.

Works with panini or bread. As others have said, butter the outside of the bread. I pre-toast the inside a little bit, just to get it warm, then pile on the filling and the top slice. Back in the frying pan, use a fish slice, or anything else to hand, to press the top down. Wait a minute or two, flip over. You can always flip it back after a couple more minutes.

Never fails and makes the perfect toastie.

Gingerkittykat · 11/04/2022 16:07

Nope, the George Foreman is slanted downwards with a drip tray to collect the fat from cooking so when the cheese melts it starts falling out.

I use a dry frying pan with a little bit of butter on the outside of the bread or the air fryer but the air fryer makes them a bit dry.

@Vanillalatteplease

Yep non stick pan but mayo on the outside. Makes a lovely crispy grilled cheese sandwich
I'm sorry but this is an absolute disgrace Grin
Vanillalatteplease · 11/04/2022 20:05

@carefullycourageous Have you ever tried it?. You don't taste the mayo it just makes it lovely & crunchy. My mum is Canadian it's pretty standard there . give it a try

RagzRebooted · 11/04/2022 20:08

Fry it in lots of butter.
DCs use the air fryer for theirs but nothing beats a proper fried cheese toastie. Though I always feel sick afterwards!

PepperamiPrincess · 11/04/2022 20:09

I used to use the George Foreman with the drip tray tipped upside down and placed under the bottom legs to make the grill flatter - so the cheese doesn’t slide out - gravity..

Then I upped my game and bought a deep fill Breville toastie maker for £25 - it’s my fave lunch - I do a cheese and tuna on inside and a Nutella and banana on the other. Lunch and desert - game changer

PepperamiPrincess · 11/04/2022 20:12

I may or may not use the deep fill breville for roasting left overs too.

Lasagne and curry works best...

Or two left over yorkies with the Sunday roast meat some potato’s, veg and warmed up gravy on the side to dip Wink

PepperamiPrincess · 11/04/2022 20:13

Toasting not roasting. God damn we need an edit button to correct grammatical mistakes (I worked 11 hours today 😫)

Peppermint81 · 11/04/2022 20:14

I am in shock that people put a cheese sandwich in the microwave...!? Is this normal to put bread in a microwave??

Lightly toast in toaster, whack on cheese etc and put under grill - like super quick.

Bagelsandbrie · 11/04/2022 20:15

I just do them under the grill. Toast the bread a bit, add the filling and then use a potato masher to squish them together really flat and toast on each side.

Whitney168 · 11/04/2022 20:18

I may need to have a corned beef and cheese toastie for lunch tomorrow after this thread. 😆

discodannie · 11/04/2022 20:19

littlestpogo · 11/04/2022 20:20

I read the mayo on the inside tip on here and it’s a total game changer. Can’t taste the mayo ( and only put a very thin layer) but it makes it crispier than butter ( put a little butter in the pan for extra crispness!). DC now very happy with the toasties

JellyBunny · 11/04/2022 20:21

So I want a grilled cheese sandwich now...

NotMeekNotObedient · 11/04/2022 20:23

Definitely a proper toastie maker, those squished crunchy crusts are the best! We've got a big one that does 4 sandwiches in one go! It's great.

We use the George Forman for things like Tuna Melts & Paninis though so maybe depends on the bread/filling you have in mind.

SheWoreYellow · 11/04/2022 20:31

I do this frying pan thing and microwave it first so the cheese is already melted. Then you’re not worrying about the outside burning before the cheese melts.

SheWoreYellow · 11/04/2022 20:32

You can put most things in the microwave! It won’t make it crispy but it will make it warm and melted and you can then crisp it.
Peachy7 · 11/04/2022 20:35

For those of you who use George Foremans, put a sheet of baking paper round your sandwich to stop the mess!

purplesequins · 11/04/2022 20:37

we have microwave toastie makers (morphy richards)
they work really well.

purplesequins · 11/04/2022 20:38

oh and the toast is crispy with those

ruthieness · 11/04/2022 20:39

put butter on outside of bread and tomato puree on inside plus filling
cook in frying pan or oven!

SpottyStripyDuvet · 11/04/2022 20:41

I am lazy and just pause the toastabag things linked above with pre-sliced cheese.
