Is it cute or am I a plonker?

Stick with me, because really it's DS hearing something and misrelaying it to me. So I'm going with cute and not me being a plonker. DH obviously disagrees as he thinks it was obvious from the start.

DS has been calling my parents courtesy car the "fire car" since they got it a few weeks back. I thought, it's red, there's logic behind what the 2 year old says and didn't correct him.
Then today, mum tells me "the hire car goes back tomorrow" and it struck me, he must have misheard hire as fire, and I guess the red cemented that connection in his head?

So what's your take, is it obvious he meant hire and I'm a fool, or are you with me and it was a cute mistake on ds part?

cute

my son when that age talked about 'heavy' stairs (which to me makes perfect sense)

Redglitter · 10/04/2022 20:58

Hes misheard hire car. One way or another still cute

Georgeskitchen · 10/04/2022 21:00

Fire car is just fine!! 🤩🤩

JurasicPerks · 10/04/2022 21:04

Misheard or mispronounced hire car, but cute.

DS2 used to say he wanted to rule the university (rule the universe) when he grew up. He knows the difference now.

EssexLioness · 10/04/2022 21:05

Cute but came on to say I haven’t heard the word plonker for years. Fab word and used to hear it all the time growing up

WorraLiberty · 10/04/2022 21:14

Cute.

My DS thought a chocolate eclair was called a 'Chocolatey Claire'. I would say that was cute too, but to his shame he was nearly 10 when he found out it wasn't, and we had no clue he thought it Confused

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 10/04/2022 21:18

I love Chocolatey Claire so much!

ShirleyPhallus · 10/04/2022 21:21

I love toddler missayings/ mispronunciations, it’s only cute

DD is stuck saying “cock” for “clock” at the moment, which is an oldy but a goody. “Look! Big cock!” has us in childish giggles.

Cheeseycheeseycheesecheese · 10/04/2022 21:23

Oh these are adorable!!!

@EssexLioness plonker is one of those words that hasn't died in my family.

On the vein of mis-saying things he called MiL a lipstick today... FiL has called her a dipstick in jest last week and we didn't realise he'd taken it in 🤦‍♀️

DD calls wind turbines 'winter bines' and I don't ever want her to stop Grin

I also spent several weeks when she was less than a year old panicking that we must have sworn in front of her and what would nursery think / say if she said 'fuck' while with them - it seemed to be her new favourite word!

The relief the day she walked up to me waving her toy FOX and shouting 'fuck' was like nothing I'd ever felt before!!

isitbedyet · 10/04/2022 21:35

Fire car is the cutest

Growing up I used to always ask my parents take me to social services- I literally ment the services when we was going on a holiday 🙄
It's now a running joke if we ever Do a big trip and we suggest what one we will meet up at for a toilet stop along the way.

WorraLiberty · 10/04/2022 21:46

When my DS2 was about 5 years old he went on a school trip to an aquarium.

When he got home, he excitedly told me the sea is full of 'crushed Asians'??!! Shock

Trying not to look too alarmed I asked him to explain, and he said "You know, like crabs and lobsters" 🤣🤣

LittleRedYoshi · 10/04/2022 21:57

It is obvious he meant 'hire', but cute nonetheless!

DD thinks the green Teletubby is named Tipsy Grin

Partyatnumber10 · 10/04/2022 22:10

When my ds was about 3 he went into show and tell at school and proudly announced that he had gone to the park with mummy to collect some plonkers...then he produced his bag of conkers.

I love the mental image that "collecting plonkers in the park" conjures up though Grin

DramaAlpaca · 10/04/2022 22:16

Love the things toddlers say, so funny and cute.

When my middle DS was very small he couldn't quite manage to say say 'stairs'.

He used to call them 'bears' instead, so going upstairs was 'up bears' and downstairs was, you've guessed it, 'down bears' Smile

CheshireChat · 10/04/2022 22:19

Hah, it's cute anyway.
My son thought a serial killer is someone who eats a lot of cereal Grin.

Easterisoffeggstooexpensive · 10/04/2022 22:19

Not a ds but a dh.... Knew absolutely nothing about dc.. Never even held one. We went to a baby shop looking for essentials..sent him looking for bibs etc.
Heard him shouting over the aisle he had found the muslims...
Omg I was mortified.

Ihaveawonderfulpartner · 10/04/2022 22:21

For some reason my now 9 year old son used to call our trampoline the bounceline and now our 5 year old calls it that as well. Too cute.

Gingernaut · 10/04/2022 22:23

Cute

Nephew used to pronounce gloves as 'glubs'.

MummyInTheNecropolis · 10/04/2022 22:28

My DD used to call dalmations ‘imagination dogs.’ We still call them that now and she’s 16 Grin

Crinkle77 · 10/04/2022 23:06

@NannyGythaOgg

Hmm feel embarrassed but don't know what heavy stairs means 😳.

On another note when I was a kid I thought fish and chip shop was fish and ship shop.

My heart actually just melted!
TinaYouFatLard · 11/04/2022 01:41

My DS is a teen now but still calls his big toe his “thumb foot” Grin

Squiff70 · 11/04/2022 01:41

Absolutely howling at "crushed Asians".

My 2 year old is pretty much non-verbal at the moment. Her favourite word is dee-da. She says it all the time about everything. The other day she was ranting away in total baby babble with lots of dee-das. When she paused foe breath, I said "well that was a very interesting story! Now can you say a real word?". She looked me in the eyes, made the 🤷‍♀️ gesture and said, with more conviction than I knew she was capable of, "DEE-DA!". Suddenly it occurred to me it was a little past the usual time of her evening meal and I realised she was probably hungry and asking for DINNER! But she's two, so who knows?

Fluttering5 · 11/04/2022 01:48

My youngest pronounces any words with an f as a b instead 😊 so four is boar, found is bound etc, but fish somehow sounds more like pish 😫😅 I love the mispronounced toddler words 🥰

Fire car, too cute 🥰
