What are your top five skills?

I'm wanting to have a bit of a clear out. Before beginning I saw "Get Organised with the Home Edit" on Netflex and decided to watch it for inspiration.

Their first assignment was with Reece Witherspoon. She was very impressed and remarked on how amazing the font was on the signs. One of the organisers thanked her and said it was her handwriting which they had turned into a font. RW said 'you have great handwriting'. The organiser said 'I know, thank you, it's one of my top five skills'. I've decided since I didn't have 50 pairs of designer shoes or enough clothes to split into their various couture designers, I would give up watching and do it my way.

So I would be interested in knowing what you think are your top five skills?

I need to have a think if I have any. Grin

I’m incredibly well-organised and efficient
Excellent at problem solving
Good at reading people and predicting how they will react and behave
Great at cat massage
Generally good at cooking, but my roast potatoes are unbeatable

hedwigismyowl · 10/04/2022 12:34

Very good imagination-have always loved reading and creating my own world
Keeping calm in a crisis- if your arm drops off, it's me you want!
Being very organised
Can listen to people's waffle and finding the main issue and solution
Able to teach really well- am not a teacher, but my works means I have to teach my staff things/ skills

  1. I can read music, and sing well enough to be in a decent choir (also play the piano and violin, but less well)!

  2. I'm a reasonable cook, with or without a recipe.

  3. I have an excellent memory for names and faces (though unfortunately I can't always put the two together).

  4. I'm very good at commenting on documents like dissertations and essays, particularly when I have no knowledge of the subject. A connected skill is that I'm very good at shortening documents that are too long.

  5. I have a good spatial awareness and a good sense of direction. That is fortunate, as my husband is the opposite. I'm therefore always the one who packs the car, and who drives it.

  1. I have excellent colour recollection so can always remember the exact hue of an item even when I've not got it with me.
  2. I can make amazingly light pastry.
  3. I'm great at breaking big tasks down into little steps and getting them in the right order (should probably have pursued a career in Logistics).
  4. I can cook a full meal but leave the kitchen looking like it has hardly been used (this may not seen like a big thing but you should see the bomb site DH creates.).
  5. I'm great at endurance-type sports events. I may not be fast but I can suffer with the best and won't give up.
Pommelegible · 10/04/2022 13:09
  1. Putting myself down
  2. Thinking the worst of myself

I am a great judge of character.
I can cure hiccups
Excellent cook
I give great constructive feedback on writing.
I can talk to and find common ground with most people.

Crankley · 10/04/2022 13:37

Pommelegible Have another go, I would pay good money on a bet that you have skills far better than putting yourself down. I look forward to hearing them.

I'm going to guess the first one is you're a good Mum. How's your cooking or are you better at eating Grin

SomethingYesterday · 10/04/2022 14:18

I can make years of nothing much look like a truly shit hot CV.

I can magic up a luscious meal from a couple of shrivelled things in the fridge and a handful of dried beans.

I have infinite patience and eye boggling skills in styling other people (particularly those I’m fond of).

I can turn the most reluctant reader into an eager, well read literary critic in about a couple of days.

I can disappear for decades …

dipdye · 10/04/2022 14:25

Really good at making a meal out of nothing.

Can pcuk the exact tupperware for the amount of food to be stored.

Know in about a minute what people are like, can easily weigh people up.

Ridiculously quick at stuff I. E. Processes, typing emails, etc.

I'm pretty charming too.

Crankley · 10/04/2022 15:14

Disappearing for decades sounds interesting.

I would love to see you try getting my sister to read. I think the last book she read was well over sixty years ago Grin

RJnomore1 · 10/04/2022 15:22

I can sleep anywhere. I mean anywhere.

I don’t need an alarm clock I can wake myself at any time I choose.

I can often see a solution to a problem before other people even realise there is a problem. This can be frustrating.

Scrambled eggs. Excellent at making them.

I’m incredibly tenacious and never give up on things. That may be more a personality trait than a skill though.

RagzRebooted · 10/04/2022 15:23

@bumblingbovine49 I have similar 'boot tetris' skills. DH leaves it to me now!

I make great Yorkshire puddings.
I’m skilled at taking masses of complex technical data and organising it into reports for the area in which I work.
I take on complex failing projects and turn them around; I’m really good at building bridges between organisations to get them to work together.
I can produce meals for loads of people at the drop of a hat.
Yorkshire puddings. I really am bloody awesome at them. It bears repeating.
