Legoland

My kids (primary aged) have an inset day coming up and have never been to Legoland so I've booked tickets hoping it won't be as busy as usual.
A few questions for you:

  • will I be ok without queue passes (can't really afford the extra cost)
  • any extra tips for making it a fun day?
Thanks all!

When is the inset day?

JungleBungles · 06/04/2022 07:46

We have been on a similar kind of day and it was heaving!
Didn’t help that the sun decided to poke it’s head out!
4 rides were broken down the queues were horrific we were totally disappointed ☹️ Standing in queues with grumpy kids wasn’t fun.
Honestly it’s overpriced and pretty disappointing.

We went in the October holidays 2020. Was a nice day and it was also a local Jewish community meet up day (not sure how else to describe it) and it was fine. We loved it. Thought it was great, didn't queue long for anything

Best Legoland tip which I gleaned from mumsnet before going a few years ago was head to the back of the park first and work forwards , it does help with the queues. We had to queue for most rides but not for too long (45 mins max) some much quicker , we went on an inset day in June . Kids loved it but it’s a long day that requires lots of parent patience 🤣

Mindymomo · 06/04/2022 07:56

The rides are quite small, so there are usually queues but there’s lots of other things to do. I’m sure it will be great. My cousin lives nearby and is a childminder and often goes there mid term without any trouble getting on the rides.

Rollercoaster1920 · 06/04/2022 07:57

Take sandwiches and eat in the queues. Don't try and do every ride, enjoy the park.

BattledoreAndShuttlecock · 06/04/2022 08:02

How old are they exactly? (The rides aimed at slightly older children have longer queues).
And what day are you planning because the Easter holidays vary a lot this year.

General tips are to arrive early, say half an hour before opening time (there are loos and things to look at outside the inner gates), plan your route in advance, work out which rides are usually busiest and dash straight to them (ideally sprint to the back of the park and work your way back) and plan to do the less busy stuff or stuff with no queues later in the day.

Do watch the shows, they're great.

Obelisk · 06/04/2022 08:06

You’ll have a great time- we absolutely love Legoland.

My tips would be to pick a few rides- no need to go on everything. There’s loads of other things to see and do. Watch the shows. Take a packed lunch as the food is expensive and not very good. Save a bit of your budget for the gift shop if you can as it’s great.

We went last week when some kids had finished school already and there were also school trips. It was fine. We didn’t get a chance to do everything but focused on the rides we wanted to go on. Longest we waited was 25 minutes for laser raiders which was not worth the wait. There is plenty of other stuff to do if queues are long. It was a lovely day. Youngest 6 just keep saying ‘this is awesome’. Eldest is 9 nearly 10. Think that’s around the top age really. Didn’t even think about the shows, now wish we had gone!

toots111 · 06/04/2022 08:11

Also agree re food. Very little was even open last week and it was all ‘meh’. If the weather is nice there are lots of picnic spots.

mamaduckbone · 06/04/2022 08:15

Is second the top tip of starting at the back of the park and working forward. There were one or 2 rides we never went on as they were too busy. It was really hot when we went so we went to the splash park bit - you need swimming stuff for that. Make sure you do the driving challenge so they get their driving licenses.

@GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat it's this Friday. I hope that Easter hasn't started this easily everywhere 🤞

I've been on random inset days in the middle of term and it's been quieter but still fairly busy. But.... Surrey school holidays have already started. We've got this week and next week off, then back to school straight after Easter

Roundtoedshoes · 06/04/2022 09:17

Hi OP, London and the SE schools have broken up already I think, so it will probably be quite busy.

VinnieVanLowe · 06/04/2022 09:17

Forgot to say - I would generally get a q-bot, as I'm only going about once a year I'd rather not spend the whole day in queues.

luvabellawilleatme · 06/04/2022 09:18

As far as I know all the schools in Essex are on Easter holidays this week and next.....

KenAdams · 06/04/2022 09:18

Not been but I've seen people posting about taking cooked hot dogs in a flask of hot water and buns and condiments with them to feed the family for a few £ as apparently its £7 per hot dog in the park and not as nice as the ones you take with you!

Cookerhood · 06/04/2022 09:25

If it's this Friday it will be busy, plenty of schools have broken up.
We used to go a lot. Get there early. Race to the bottom of the park & work your way up. We had days when we literally managed 4 rides because it was so busy. The best day ever was when our primary school closed unexpectedly and everyone headed off there - virtually no-one in the park except us. I would get a queue bot as you may feel you've wasted the whole day if you spend it in queues.

angelsandinsects · 06/04/2022 09:30

All of the local schools have broken up.
Also, the top MN tip of working at the back of the park doesn't work as well now as the hotels are at that end of the park so they come in that way. It does still have some benefits as they may have taken advantage of early entry and done the rides at the bottom already.
Whilst we always got there early, stood by the barrier and ran to the first ride, that was because we were season ticket holders so went there regularly. For a first visit, unless you're really strict, it's quite hard to do that as the children (and you!) just get distracted by the Legolandness of it and just want to stop and look at this and then that and then go over to look at that thing.
It will be a brilliant day out even if it is busy. The pirate shows - and, if your kids are under 5, the ones in DuploLand - are amazing and there's the whole Lego thing going on.

Pinotwoman82 · 06/04/2022 09:30

I’d say if you can get the cheapest fast pass thing you can, it’s on your phone and you don’t physically have to wait in line your phone does for you. So you could say you physically wait in line for like the pirate ship as that gets loads on at once and at the same time your phone can electronically be waiting in line for say the log flume. We went in may half term last year and didn’t get one and we literally went on 4 rides, didn’t even see the other side of the park, it was miserable. In August we purchased the fast pass thing and it was the best money ever spent

BusinessMindThoughts · 06/04/2022 09:32

My sister has recommended downloading the app, which gives approx wait times etc.

PoshWatchShitShoes · 06/04/2022 09:41

We bought the middle Q-pass. It made the world of difference. You wait 50% less than normal waiting time, but the big plus is you're not actually queueing during your wait. You can just wander about till your QR code comes through, then you skip to the front of the regular queue.

As soon as the ride operator scans your QR code, you select another ride, so you can enjoy one ride whilst virtually queueing for the next ride. It worked perfectly.

It's expensive, but it would have been such a miserable day out without it!! Who wants to stand in a queue with young kids for an hour for a 2 min ride. Not exaggerating!! We only ever waited 7 mins max in an actual line and that was for the submarine ride, which was 1 pod per family during Covid times.

Paleodiet · 06/04/2022 10:41

A friend once advised immediately walking to the far end (fewer people there first thing) & making your way back towards the entrance. No personal experience though.

emmathedilemma · 06/04/2022 10:46

Loads of schools have been off all this week, i don't think you'll find it's particularly quiet!

Figgygal · 06/04/2022 10:48

Yeah there's lots of schools off already in the south east so might be busier than expected
Hope its not too bad for you
