Do you have a “type” of partner..?

Watching the amazing Married At First Sight Australia- current series.

A couple are in turmoil as the guy, on an honesty box question, said his (unknown 3 days before) wasn’t exactly his type. His type was blonde and tanned and she is blonde.

Just checking in with everyone - I’m fat dumpy and was continually bullied - I don’t have a “type”. I’m not privileged enough to have a choice. My husband is wonderful and I adore him. Is short balding Scottish guy a “type” or just the guy I fell in love with. When I was 15 I was obsessed with a blonde 6ft footballer. So is my “type” a Viking footballer.

Guys have never swarmed over me enough for me to pick a “type” of guy. I’ve never had the luxury to have the ability to choose a “type”.

Are other women so surrounded by guys who want to be with them that they can filter their options by “type”.

I’ve discussed this with my amazing DH and he hasn’t got a clue about his “type” either - he just knew the first day he met me that this was forever.

Do people genuinely filter potential partners because they “aren’t their type”..??

I am very long term single by choice, but I absolutely do have a type. I filter first by looks, then by sense of humour. I would break my "no relationships' rule instantly if Antonio Banderas made me laugh 20 years ago, old guys not my type either

MadameFantabulosa · 06/04/2022 08:07

Tall, chunky, dark hair and green eyes. DH is nothing like this…

CorsicaDreaming · 06/04/2022 10:09

Thinking back over my partners over the years:

"men who like doing dangerous sports that don't involve balls".

Not sure if that constitutes a type or just an occupational hazard, really....

Daisychainsandglitter · 06/04/2022 21:25

I have a type although they're getting shorter in supply as I get older.
I really like tall skinny men with long/shoulder length hair.
DH fits the bill although his hair is shorter these days.?

BakewellGin1 · 06/04/2022 21:36

Physically I have a type
Talk, Dark Hair, Broad Shoulders, Stubble, a bit 'rough round the edges', tanned...

I've never dated anyone who is shorter or thinner then me.... And only ever one blonde, however he met the rest...

All have been tattooed.

As I've aged personality wise I feel 'not being a dickhead' is a good trait to go for...
As a youngster I didn't mind the drama. Now I'm older I genuinely can't be bothered with it and like a quiet life

Electricmouse · 06/04/2022 21:42

Yes.
I'm a gay woman and only fancy a certain 'type' of woman. I like them to be masculine in appearance, and at least 5 inches taller than me. I won't veer from that and never have so far. I'm not a bad catch on paper but I also like being single. So I'd not settle for someone who wasn't my type. Soem of that 'type' don't cut it either. I had a date with someone once who I just didn't fancy and couldn't work out why. I've now decided it is because I prefer dark features, but I'm not 100% sure to be honest. Sometimes it is down to chemistry.

Electricmouse · 06/04/2022 21:43

Oh and I'd never date someone smaller than me. Body size wise. I'm slim- I like a bit of squishyness Grin

Steelesauce · 06/04/2022 21:46

Yeah, arseholes usually. This is why I'm single, I can't be trusted because I will fall for the biggest dickhead with all the red flags every single time!

PermanentTemporary · 06/04/2022 21:47

I do have a type and I fool myself only i can tell what it is, but thinking back over the ranks I think it's fairly obvious. Dark or silver Ashkenazi or Celtic types with strong cheekbones and great hands are my sweet spot - Jakob Dylan is exactly it. But for sure I'm not always with someone who looks like that. If you're as enthusiastic about men as I am you do gather the numbers though.

XenoBitch · 06/04/2022 21:47

Looking back, there has been a huge range of types amongst my ex's.
Personality and interests was what kept me in the end.

ElenaSt · 06/04/2022 21:49

Not so much a physical type but I’m not attracted to short men, men with facial hair, tattoos, even slightly overweight would be a huge turn off and I know this sounds awful but certain accents are a big no.

I also wouldn’t be attracted to anyone that didn’t have a decent job/career.

Ohyesiam · 06/04/2022 22:25

I do find height really attractive. Even I was young with poor self esteem I didn’t think I was enough of a catch to have a talk bf, but I’ve since graduated into a tall dh.

BUT the thing I love most of all is that delicious connection, sizzling chemistry on mind, heart, body levels. That trumps any type I could have. Hence me being able to love James Mcavoy as well as tall dh( oh, that Glasgow accent , swoon)

TonkaTruckduck · 06/04/2022 22:51

I don't have a type but of you're looking for confirmation that some people do, and never stray far from it, just look at Rod Stewart.

DelurkingAJ · 06/04/2022 22:57

I used to run to type in my early 20s. It was a standing joke with my close friends. And yes, it was shorthand for ‘sexually attracted’ as opposed to other who were intrinsically clear more attractive but I didn’t fancy.

I had plenty of choice in my early 20s. And now I have DH, who fits the original profile. Unpredictable in other ways (personality and background) but physically as expected by those closest to me.

ronjobbins · 06/04/2022 22:58

6ft 4, Scottish, RAF Officers

Robin233 · 07/04/2022 03:10

@merryhouse
Your first describes my son
Had to chuckle

Robin233 · 07/04/2022 03:13

My type is tall lanky men.
My dh says his type are small blonds- then he found me

coffeencrochet · 07/04/2022 06:24

my type is tall, tanned, curly hair, facial hair and toned body. things that make me go weak include voice, accent and smile, but these depend on the initial attraction levels. I'm currently speaking to someone who ticks all of the boxes except one - he lives about 4 hours away from me 🙃

CorsicaDreaming · 13/04/2022 08:01

@ronjobbins

6ft 4, Scottish, RAF Officers

That really is very specific 🤣

SunscreenCentral · 28/12/2022 16:51

I like em chunky and very, very, very clever.

when I was young I was all for the Val Kilmer/Jim Morrison types.

MadameSzyszkoBohusz · 28/12/2022 17:03

Generally I prefer tall, dark and broad, but I've dated shorter, skinnier, blonder....they've almost all been funny, clever and kind, though, so I guess you could say that's my type!

Shodan · 28/12/2022 17:05

I have a type.

Tall, dark, handsome, intelligent, silly sense of humour, hairy-chested, strong, capable, good at DIY.

All previous relationships fell short of these in almost all areas except hair colour and hirsuteness.

DP is all of them and I'm keeping him 😁

SuperGinger · 28/12/2022 17:10

No real type although I always seem to go for intensely bright quite introverted men.

catandcoffee · 28/12/2022 17:16

My type must have brown eyes.
Really dark hair.
Be at least 6ft
Not skinny or too muscly.
Nice teeth.
No beard.

I can appreciate blond blue eyed guys who are good looking but just not attracted to them.
