MumsNet or GransNet? Inbetweenie!

Inbetweenie993 · 05/04/2022 15:41

Hello world! I have been a 'sleeping observer' on MumsNet for a while now, and have appreciated the wit and wisdom I have found, and finally joined!

I hope I qualify, as I have never had the privilege of being a mother and therefore obviously not a gran!

As an Inbetweenie aged 59, living alone (with 3 fur babies) and coping with 4 older siblings I am not sure whether MumsNet or GransNet is for me. I have had a interesting life so far... divorced, found Mr. Right and then he died early...

Can anyone advise where I might fit in your wonderful supportive world?

Love to hear from someone, anyone

I’m in the same demographic. Think we need Menonet.

We could all have similar names and a monthly group hot flush.

Gah, that helpfully doesn't show how you make the smilies! Grin

So, [ grin ] (without the gaps) gives you Grin, there's a whole list at the bottom of the page.

Welcome!!

Gransnet was absolutely brilliant when a poster went missing,

However, when things started going back to 'normal' it was definitely an older vibe. It's much much smaller so they know each other better (more like MN used to be) and I think that sometimes comes across at cliquey.

I haven't been over since well before covid.

I'm early fifties & far far more at home here. I do however click off more threads now that I don't think I'm in a position to add anything to...but that's ok, there are plenty of others!!

Nothing to stop you posting on both!

I'm a grandmother OP. But if childfree I'd still use this forum.
Became a grandmother very early, joined gransnet a few years ago and it really isn't for me.
Some great women, absolutely, but also plenty who I really couldn't identify with at all. Age group? Outlook? Couple of the most pompous old men I've ever encountered ? Probably a mix.
That's not to say I'm on the same page as all the mumsnet vipers Grin far from it. None of us is.
But I like the straight talking, the humour, the head on tackling of difficult topics.
The sudden, quite bizarre questions that pop up sometimes.
I appreciate the sarcasm and wit of many which outweighs the posts that I consider ignorant/cruel/utterly tone deaf.
I'm also a rabid Feminist so there's a definite place for me here.
I live overseas and these days have longterm health issues which severely curtails socialising and cut my friendship group.
Pissing myself laughing at someone's post or occasionally trying to add a useful post when someone's asking for help is now a part of my routine and I'm grateful for it.
I've lived a "ahem" interesting life and so have many people on here.
I highly suggest you look up Mumsnet Classics if you want a taste of the vipers in full force.
So that's my fucking long winded but honest take on things. Welcome :)

I'm Gransnet age, but not a grandparent. IMO it's an appalling site. I've tried it, but don't fit in at all. Moderation is terrible - it's dominated by a couple of bullies who seem to report anything and everything. It's impossible to discuss anything intelligently or challenge anything without being reported and banned without being given any detailed justification. Fine if you want to do mindless word games, comment on TV programmes and moan about daughters-in-law. It's difficult to believe it has the same owners as Mumsnet.

I became a grandmother at 41 and thought I’d dip my toe into Gransnet waters. I still had an 8, 12 and 15 old living at home and I felt much too young for the place.

Nope, came back here sharpish. Odd place.

Antarcticant · 13/11/2025 13:11

This thread has been going since 2022, during which time I have joined the 'over 50' age bracket, but I'm still on MN 😄

daphnedill · 15/11/2025 00:13

I've been a member of MN for years, but my kids have flown the nest, so I felt too old. I tried Gransnet, but I really couldn't stomach it. Going to give MN another go, especially as I can see that some are just as old (young) as me.

daphnedill · 15/11/2025 00:15

I'm in the "well over 50s" bracket. Bullying is rife on Gransnet. I thought I'd left all that behind in the school playground. I'm far too old and savvy to tolerate it now.
