My Mum gave me a huge Lindor

It's an Easter egg but packaged as a giant Lindor ball (the red ones). I spent a happy five minutes holding it and pretending to be a borrower while my DC (who haven't read The Borrowers) stared in bafflement and asked why I was giggling. Grin

Yes, I am far too old to still be getting an Easter egg from my Mum, but she enjoys giving little gifts and I would never turn down chocolate. Also yes, I am far too old to be pretending to be a borrower.

My Mum tried to pull this ploy, saying they are for children. Me and me Sister in unison said whined but we are your children. Grin

Nobody is too old for chocolate.

This thread has blown my mind a bit... I've always enjoyed being in the presence of things that are bigger/smaller than they should be just because it's amusing and I used to really love The Borrowers. But, I've NEVER put the two things together.

Love this so much.

Threeboysandadog · 05/04/2022 15:42

I sent one from Amazon to dsd for her birthday when we couldn’t see each other during lockdown. She loved it.

Nnique · 05/04/2022 15:45

Ahhh this made me smile!

SpringHasSprungYay · 05/04/2022 15:48

Mmmm Lindor....

oakleaffy · 05/04/2022 15:48

@InMySpareTime

I got the giant Lindor ball from DH a few years ago, kept the plastic ball and use it to store a perpetual stock of Lindors. I add a new box each time someone gets me one, and haven't run out yet 😊
Your initials as a child weren't J.S were they??

My schoolfriend with these initials used to keep ALL her Easter Eggs in their boxes well into June...I'd look at them longingly, having scoffed mine to the point of nausea on Easter Sunday.

What self control you have!
I have an unopened Chocolate Orange from last night, that has taken a lot of discipline.

oakleaffy · 05/04/2022 15:50

Edit...Anyone else noticed the chocolate orange segments are ''Slimmer'', as if they've been spokeshaved.
Less chocolate per segment.
Mean!

VeryMuchFlaggingMinty · 05/04/2022 15:53

This a great post.

My mum had two new sofas delivered this morning and your old not believe my levels of excitement when I saw the two huge boxes.

Unfortunately they were about twice the size of my car and I really couldn't justify taking them home with me.

46 and I love a good box!

InMySpareTime · 05/04/2022 15:58

@oakleaffy neither J nor S, as a child I had to eat treats or lose them, so now I enjoy the power of owning treats that nobody else can take, even if I keep them for ages.
The first Lindor is indisputably the best one, and subsequent ones are chasing that dream. My way, they are all the first one.

RumJerrySailorRum · 05/04/2022 16:08

My Auntie still gets me and my brothers selection boxes at Christmas.
Eldest DB is 52. (Youngest is 43). They are proper ones too, not the flimsy scrappy ones for a quid!

She stopped one year when I was about 25 I think, we complained to mum who discreetly told her and she started again the following Christmas.

Auntie is 96 this year.

alphonsedupont · 05/04/2022 16:10

Thanks for making me smile OP - this is just great 😊

InMySpareTime · 05/04/2022 16:26

Weirdly, it was exactly 7 years ago I got my giant Lindor, it came up on my FB memories:

This is a lovely thread Smile
I think giving Easter eggs/cash to our adult DC is our way of thanking them for Mother's Day.
My DM gave me Easter money to treat myself until she passed away Flowers

EarringsandLipstick · 05/04/2022 16:35

I love this OP! Being a Borrower, brilliant!

InMySpareTime · 05/04/2022 16:38

My Nan still sends me Easter eggs, and she's nearly 100.

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 05/04/2022 16:54

Whoever asked me if it'll make it to Easter - I'm not making any promises but I'm trying to have a bit of willpower so that I can be a good example to DD who is already asking if she can eat her not-egg (it's the dachshund from M&S).

I don't know what "a borrower" is, but your Mum is a treasure!

Suzi888 · 05/04/2022 17:03

😂Enjoy your egg lol we had one from a neighbour for Christmas- delicious!

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 05/04/2022 17:03

I agree that it might have been a bit of a failing that my DC don't know who the borrowers are but they were always both very reluctant readers and even a bit reluctant to be read to, so I needed to be quite selective about their books. Plus The Borrowers was never one of my favourites anyway, I read it because I read everything I could get my hands on as a child and enjoyed it but didn't love it.

I like Terry Pratchett's Nomes from the Bromeliad Trilogy for a bit of "holding giant things" imaginary wandering.

InMySpareTime · 05/04/2022 17:09

Nobody gets me Lindor bunnies any more, after I ripped the head off one, chewed its face gleefully then posted its ears down the gaping neck hole. Apparently that's barbaric.

starfishmummy · 05/04/2022 17:16

Heck I buy Easter eggs for my MIL and she is in her 80s!! (She likes thin chocolate)

StaplesCorner · 05/04/2022 17:17

I'm surprised we're two pages in and no-one has said how entitled you are to take an easter egg from your parent Grin

Would they watch the film?

I stayed at a friends this weekend & they are both really tall. I'm used to things being for taller people (I'm not quite 5ft) but for some reason their new bathroom just made me feel particularly diddy. It was like I'd walked into a giants house! I couldn't really work out why, shower head was high (but they always are) clothes hooks on the door were high (but again they always are)...

Maybe a combo of those things/the windows/whit long tiles... I don't know, but it felt surreal & was so disappointed to go back into the normal bedroom!

So unusual as an adult to experience things like that, it was fun! I think I NEED a giant egg!!

My mum lives several thousand miles away, so no Easter Eggs for me anymore! 😢

gingerhills · 05/04/2022 17:21

@BusySittingDown

Nope, never too old to be given an Easter egg by your mum!

Who DOESN'T pretend to be a Borrower when you get something giant? I also like to pretend I'm a giant when I have something tiny.

I wish I knew you. Grin
