If you’re a nurses or carer please can you recommend some shoes?

I’m always on the go and on my feet for 12hrs a day and my feet and ankles are suffering!

I’ve tried trainers and whilst they’re comfortable they do nothing to alleviate the pain and swelling I get in my feet and ankles. It takes days for them to go back down

Clark Unlooped. Ugly as anything but no other shoes compare to them in terms of comfort for me.

Iluvfriends · 03/04/2022 15:34

I have the same issue. My feet dont swell but oh my god the pain in the ankle and soles of my feet is horrendous, i can barely walk after a shift.

I have tried different footwear, flight socks, strapping up my ankles...nothing has made a difference.

A fair few colleagues swear by Crocs but i haven't tried them so far.

Clarks obviously.

Sketchers go walk.

Floralnomad · 03/04/2022 15:37

When I was a nurse I initially wore Ecco’s for a long time and then for the last few years wore black Skechers .

everybodystalking · 03/04/2022 15:43

Hotter tone shoes (had mine 3 years and going strong, I have had plantar faciitis and need arch support)

I don't have them but Hotter also do "nightingale " style designed for nursing staff.

I find lether shoes better for my feet.

Also Vionic shoes (only in the sale though they are too pricey)

LadyJaneHall · 03/04/2022 15:58

I find Ecco lace ups the best shoes . Their soles are deep enough not to get pain in the soles of the feet and firmer, so more supportive, than trainers. Clarks and Sketchers are comfortable but too soft. Hotter shoes can be good.

Shouldbedoing · 03/04/2022 16:02

You have to be careful with Skechers as they have a huge range covering far too soft up to very supportive

WeirdlyKind · 03/04/2022 16:03

You need some support socks/tights too. I have sketchers which work for me but no shoe is going to stop your feet from swelling.

akittyisyou · 03/04/2022 16:05

Used to do 10-12 hour shifts of shop floor sales, no sitting or loitering allowed. Hotter brand shoes never failed me.

DatingAWidower22 · 03/04/2022 16:06

Clarke’s Unloops are my saviour!

Blimeyherewegoagain · 03/04/2022 16:07

Clarks Unloop. And the insoles come out if you need to put orthotics in.

Babadook76 · 03/04/2022 16:11

Sketchers that have the cooling gel insoles

Thedogshow · 03/04/2022 16:12

And also, I don’t know if you can do this, but I have a job where I stand a lot some days and I wear support tights. Really stops my legs aching so badly.

TabithaTittlemouse · 03/04/2022 16:12

DM’s but with an arch insert work for me.

IrisApfelRocks · 03/04/2022 16:16

I wear DM's and find them very comfortable and supportive

Phineyj · 03/04/2022 16:24

Hotter and Vionic. Plus support tights.

TinLeaf · 03/04/2022 16:26

Thank you for all the replies. I’m going to check them all out. Wearing support socks or tights is a really good idea too

As earlier poster said

They really are incredibly comfortable and also incredibly ugly Grin

riotlady · 03/04/2022 16:29

Yep, the ugly Clark’s ones. Before my first hospital placement I literally went into Clark’s and asked the assistant what the nurses wear. She brought those monstrosities out and I never looked back- like walking on clouds.

TinLeaf · 03/04/2022 16:33

You’re right they are ugly Grin but I’ll try anything!

TreacheryPepper · 03/04/2022 16:34

My soft leather DMs are the only footwear that support my feet enough for a 12hr shift

Dobbysgotthesocks · 03/04/2022 16:34

I like walking shoes - plenty of support and breathable and don't wear out too quickly. My most recent pairs are from Asda. When I find shoes that work I tend to buy multiple pairs so I don't have to try and find something new too often!
For showering people (I'm a carer) nothing beats crocs however! I always have a clean pair in my work bag for supporting in wet rooms / poolside etc.

I have these, and they are so incredibly comfy. I used to find I was getting really tight calves at work, and these have helped massively. And they are super light on your feet!

inmyslippers · 03/04/2022 16:50

The brand fitflop, they don't just do fitflops. I also find Nike air max 95s/110s super comfy
