Have guests for lunch
My menu plan is:

Quiche
New potatoes
Salad
Roast chicken
Crusty bread
Cheeses

What else can I add to this?

Pudding is going to be chocolate cheese cake with berries.

Coleslaw & beetroot for me please.

Fushia123 · 02/04/2022 09:24

Add a few extras - coleslaw, olives, hummus, crisps, pesto pasta etc.
Easy to pick up, open and serve in your own dishes if you are short of time.

balalake · 02/04/2022 09:26

Is it only one kind of quiche? I understand there to be those with bacon, and those wholly vegetarian/vegan.

You know your guests OP, hope you know if any are vegan or vegetarian.

What time would you like me to arrive?

I do something make a beetroot side dish/tzatziki type thing for these kinds of meals.
Get a pack of cooked beetroot the vacuum packed kind no vinegar etc, set aside the juice from the pack. Fairly finely chop two of the beetroots, grate the other two. In a bowl mix some yoghurt and creme fraiche with crushed garlic, salt and pepper, mix in the beetroot juice then the chopped and grated beetroot. Nicer if left in the fridge for at least an hour or two before serving. DS calls it pink dip

teenagetantrums · 02/04/2022 09:28

Definitely coleslaw

Velvetbee · 02/04/2022 09:29

Sounds delicious, I’m in.

fallfallfall · 02/04/2022 09:52

All oh those are yummy sounding but it’s honestly a weird combo.
Quiche is cheese, then cheese on it’s own then cheesecake?
What type of veggies in the quiche? Go for
contrasting colors for your side dish red greens and oranges.
Your offering too much of all the same heavy carb. Almost all the same color foods.
I’d be doing less; spinach mandarin orange salad with your quiche, cherry tomatoes on the side.
A fluffy cake and maybe a sherbet ice cream or tiramasu.
Each item you’ve choose. Is fab individually they just don’t go well together.
Even a mixed been salad, or a nice quinoa salad??

BigSandyBalls2015 · 02/04/2022 09:56

Not sure about the random chicken … unless the quiche is veggie and that’s for meat eaters? Anyway sounds fab and it’s made me hungry

girlmom21 · 02/04/2022 09:57

This is a standard UK picky tea. How dare you call it weird?! Basically blasphemy.

gogohm · 02/04/2022 09:58

Coleslaw, beetroot, pickles

freshcarnation · 02/04/2022 10:11

Not had a good homemade quiche for years. In the seventies my Aunt used to make a classic one with tinned red salmon and broccoli. It was the showpiece of a buffet

MintyGreenDream · 02/04/2022 10:14

A bottle of salad cream is essential

Nnique · 02/04/2022 10:18

Remoulade (it’s very like a coleslaw but nicer in my opinion) or failing that, coleslaw.

FelicityPike · 02/04/2022 10:23

Chips.

StrawberryPot · 02/04/2022 10:28

Coleslaw

withiceplease · 02/04/2022 10:32

I'm partial to a chickpea salad
Ooh and grated carrot salad with dressing parsley and mixed seeds 😋

waltzingparrot · 02/04/2022 12:29

Homemade coleslaw is much nicer than shop bought. Fresher, less sloppy and it's just shredding vegetables and adding a spoon of mayo and salad cream.

Quiche is made from eggs, they dont all have cheese in them

Its freezing today so heavy carbs should be on the menu

Personally I cannot stand a cold quiche, it should be hot/warm and with new potatoes or jacket.

Vegetable based quiches I also find are too wet and watery, they need to be very well done if you're going to do that, I cant stand peppers in quiche, too acidy,, quiche should be creamy and unctuous.

H1978 · 02/04/2022 12:45

We have chips and baked beans with ours.

Gladioli23 · 02/04/2022 12:48

I definitely think it's a perfectly normal collection of foods, not weird at all - it sounds lovely :)

BaronessBomburst · 02/04/2022 12:49

The best quiche is onion, with nutmeg, mature Cheddar, and a whole pot of cream.

golddustwomen · 02/04/2022 12:51

Spicy rice

LBOCS2 · 02/04/2022 12:54

I think that combination sounds delicious but you need something saucy or with moisture with it - so coleslaw or remoulade or tzatziki etc. Plus olives as they're delicious.

My quiches never have cheese in them so I would definitely serve a cheeseboard alongside. I'm making a crab and asparagus quiche tomorrow and I'm already excited about it 😁

This is a standard UK picky tea

It is being offered for lunch. Or is it a buffer set out for lunch?

Agree with PP that it is quite carb and cheese heavy.

junglejane66 · 02/04/2022 14:49

MASSIVE salad, in fact that would be enough on its own (on MN)
