Easter trees have always been a thing to some extent. My family German and it’s a big things there. Our family just hang decorated eggs on twigs cut from the garden tho

TheBoots · 31/03/2022 13:16

Yes, we've done Easter trees since I was a little girl. Branches from the garden hung with Easter decorations. They sell Easter egg baubles at pound land even so I assume quite a lot of people do this!

We’ve always done this too.

Not a thing in my family. Heck, it was only coming on MN about 15 years ago that I discovered people have big family meals and get togethers for Easter. As a kid, I got an Easter egg and that was Easter done!

Every year, I have a moment of ‘oh, Easter Lunch is a big deal for some (most?) people.’

No judgement - I just always forget!

MrsPaperclip · 31/03/2022 13:22

We used to do the tree thing too (E European Catholics).

But to answer your qu, OP, EVERYTHING is a thing now. There's not a single occasion that can't have money spent on it. Fair play to the Etsy sellers, I guess!

reluctantbrit · 31/03/2022 13:22

I am German and it's absolute normal to have a vase with twigs where you then hang eggs and other small decorations on.

We also have lots of bunny decorations around, they come out on Palm Sunday.

If you think this is too much, don't go to Frankonia in Germany where they decorate the town fountains.

Same here! Totally passes me by that Easter is a 'thing' for a lot of people. I don't ever remember it being any different to any other Sunday as a kid, except maybe we had lamb instead of chicken on the roast.
SatinHeart · 31/03/2022 13:24

MIL does an Easter tree but I didn't know it was A Thing.

As an aside, Asda are doing chocolate coins for easter this year Confused

NewYearEveryYear · 31/03/2022 13:24

We always have an Easter branch, ideally a wonky and gnarly one from the park - that we decorate with hanging ornaments and ribbons.

SnowfallSnowball · 31/03/2022 13:29

Ahh interesting! We live and learn I guess, good to get some insight though.

I used to do the vase of twigs with Easter decorations on it way back when my DDs were small (they are 24 & 29 now) so it isn't new.

MomOfCritters · 31/03/2022 13:33

I've noticed it more in recent years, Tesco have started selling bare trees with egg baubles separately so it's obviously becoming more normal (commercialised), I must admit I was tempted to buy one but I'm a sucker for anything that can brighten up the house a little.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 31/03/2022 13:37

Remember how 2 years ago when suddenly lots of familiar things and rituals just stopped?

Lots of people went out of their way to find little things to cause happiness for themselves, their children and others. Easter trees (in the British form, not the European twig form) was one of the early ones. Makes sense they stayed. There was also Christmas in June and Halloween trees. Any excuse really.

Readyforspring · 31/03/2022 14:39

Shops have done easter coins for a bit.
Ive got them for my eldest for at least 5 years. I use them as littlw treats in the Easter hunt

Sweetener12 · 01/04/2022 09:26

Not a thing in our house but I know people that do it. Easter is't a big deal for us but kids love it so we arrange play dates and Easter themed games and I make Easter slideshows but no special decorations or anything of that kind tbh.

SartresSoul · 01/04/2022 09:28

Easter trees are traditional in some European countries like Germany. They don’t look like that though, you hang lovely eggs and such from branches in a vase or a wooden tree. I used to do one when DC were small, it was quite pretty.

MrsSkylerWhite · 01/04/2022 09:31

A few twisty branches in a vase hung with eggs are lovely.

The last thing we all need is more expensive tat.

Exactly the same here. Grandparents are German and my Mum has been decorating white twig tress since the early 90's and now I do too! I love them!
70isaLimitNotaTarget · 01/04/2022 10:19

Yes we did some branches (usually from the pear tree) and some decorations .
Did this for years ....and the tree usually gets re-incrnayed as the Hallowe'en Tree Grin

Only stopped the Easter Tree because of the cats .
Little vandals !

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 01/04/2022 10:20

re-incarnated (cannot even blame auto-correct )

lollipoprainbow · 01/04/2022 10:23

Yes we've had one for years ! Just some white twigs with Easter decs on. Looks really pretty.

YellowAndGreenToBeSeen · 01/04/2022 21:59

@ImInStealthMode we didn’t have a roast on any Sunday let alone Easter!

Luredbyapomegranate · 01/04/2022 22:04

I only heard of easter trees on MN last year. I couldn’t be arsed, happy with daffodils etc, but it’s quite sweet.

We have always done proper Easter lunch though, Easter egg hunts for kids, family walks -

PaperTyger · 01/04/2022 22:09

Yes. some counties are light hearted and fun and like to celebrate things And that's creeping in here.

We have a White sprayed twig concoction with little egg's and seasonal sheep, hen's hanging off it.
We Also have a croc bouche style egg trees as well as other Easter banners and ornaments.
Guess what.
I adore spring, I love marking the change in seasons it feels Very natural to me just like markings autumn with Halloween and winter.
