Woman thrown off Jet2 plane after screaming at other passengers due to noise from babies and slapping others and attempting to open the door. Flight had to be diverted to Vienna.

Lifetime ban. £5000 fine. Maybe she will use the money for veneers to be done in Turkey to pay her fine!

Batshit.

@EatSleepRantRepeat

I'm not judging because I don't know what caused her to behave like this. I'm autistic and find the noise of babies screaming really distressing, and if it gets too much I can lose it. I've avoided planes for years for this reason and I'm so glad i have no pressing reason to use one. Even in first/business you can't get away from people's kids these days.

I feel sorry for anyone who has been hurt or injured, obviously, but it may be more complex than it appears.

You don’t have to be autistic to find the sound of screaming babies distressing. No human enjoys the sound of screaming babies. This woman was terrorising people before she even got on the plane so the noise of the babies absolutely isn’t an excuse.

On a side note, Ariel ones should be much, much stricter about not letting trouble makers on the plane on the first place. If you are so drunk you can’t walk in a straight line you don’t get on the plane.

Anoisagusaris · 29/03/2022 16:20

She looks exactly like someone who would this. I hope she is mortified, but probably not.

Pinklimey · 29/03/2022 16:24

Sorry. All I could imagine was a screaming lady tubling out of a plane mid-flight. She deserved to be kicked off the flight. Who behaves like that??

RogueBorg · 29/03/2022 16:28

I find it mind blowing that airlines and airports serve alcohol at all. Alcohol and flying don’t mix.

I fully support her lifetime ban. I would be terrified to be on a plane and have someone try and open the door.

ChrissyPlummer · 29/03/2022 16:30

I work with a couple of people who used to be air crew and I’ve asked how people who are obviously drunk/drugged are allowed to board the plane. They said a lot of people smuggle a bottle of vodka on and drink that through the flight. I’d search everyone before they got on and bin any booze.

The vast majority of people manage to consume alcohol and behave!

Daft thing to say. (Unless it's about the pilots of course)

Strokethefurrywall · 29/03/2022 16:36

She also assaulted two people on that flight. So yes she is a disgusting excuse for a human and deserved far worse than what she got.

pinkstinks · 29/03/2022 16:43

Just a technical question - what powers do cabin crew have as In could they have restrained her? She was volatile and could have out others at risk - how does
It work?

Money money money basically
Waxonwaxoff0 · 29/03/2022 17:25

Batshit. Yes I am judging her, if you can't deal with screaming babies to an extent that you behave like this, don't go on a plane. Going for cosmetic dentistry isn't an essential trip.

Cabin crew are trained in restraint techniques. In theory they can handcuff and use ties on aggressive and disruptive passengers.

In case it reassures any anxious travellers, it's not physically possible to open the plane door mid-flight. The pressure difference between outside and inside makes it impossible for a passenger to open the door on their own, even without the doorlocks in place.

pupcakes · 29/03/2022 19:20

Three grand seems suspiciously cheap for veneers to me. My dentist would probably charge me that just to park outside for the duration of the procedure.

Thanks wendyer - really interesting
Also yes eatsleeprantrepeat that is good to know! Flying in a few weeks and already anxious!

Glad to help! Just remember - incidents like this only hit the news because they're so rare. An aircraft cabin is incredibly strong and incredibly well made, the pilots are locked in the cockpit so they can't be affected by a passenger kicking off, and the plane is basically designed to be idiot proof. There is way of opening the emergency exits or doors while in flight, and as someone mentioned, the crew are trained in de-escalation and also restraints, cuffs etc where necessary, so you just need to stay seated and not get involved.

My friend is a jet pilot, and regularly practices on a simulator for dealing with emergencies, they all do. They know where their nearest diversion airports are throughout the route, they even know how long they can fly the plane for on just one engine. There's a reason most pilots are fab at maths and physics Grin

I wish I had a man's ears - many of them seem to be able to ignore a screaming baby until mum sorts it out 😄

My husband would say it's me that has acquired these ears.

Theblacksheepandme · 29/03/2022 21:55

She won't pay any of that money.

Cheeseandlobster · 29/03/2022 22:04

Shame they can't deduct from her wages or benefits

You’re very welcome :). I never did get the hang of using handcuffs!

The cabin crew do get training for this and yes, ultimately the cabin crew can apply restraints ( from a legal POV they have to ask the captain for approval but I can't imagine that approval would ever be denied).
notimagain · 29/03/2022 23:14

@EatSleepRantRepeat

I'm guessing you meant to put a no, as in "no way" in that comment....?

The way the doors/exits are constructed means that as long as the aircraft is pressurised (so effectively pretty much whenever it is airborne) there is no way any of them can be opened in flight.

RogueBorg · 30/03/2022 12:07

@BIWI of course it’s not! No reason for alcohol to be served on flights. It’s not good idea for anyone to drink on a flight and it would make a big difference to behaviour.

yellowsuninthesky · 30/03/2022 12:32

Aggressive Yokshire woman', ha ha - that made me think of that thread on here the other day about people from Yorkshire always being compelled to tell you they're from Yorkshire

I think her accent was a bit of a giveaway. People on Twitter had her down to Wakefield (she was from Kirklees so they were bang on). I am impressed people can peg an accent to a district like that!

Agree that if she was drunk before she got on the plane they shouldn't have let her board.

Lovebroccoli · 30/03/2022 12:39

Useless information you might be interested in, humans find certain noise pitches distressing, can't settle until its turned off, a baby's cry is at that exact pitch![/quote]
That's interesting, and I suppose that's the baby's defence mechanism, so that someone will see to its needs.

EatSleepRantRepeat · 30/03/2022 12:49

@notimagain yes thats right - no way, just a typo.
