Women slap people too.

Ori18 · 28/03/2022 10:53

Oh my word, just watched the clip, then again x 2. This is so so real, I think Will was laughing along and then his anger and embarrassment and the slow realisation of what CR had just said just completely overwhelmed him. The shouting afterwards, him really yelling at Chris, you can just see the anger etched on his face. It's 100% real. CR doesn't know what to do wit himself for a while afterwards. Will just lost it and both of them are out of their comfort zones. Really uncomfortable to watch

oscar are such a fuss about nothing,
they are simply playing Pretend all in the name of Movies

The way they carry on, you'd think they'd found a cure for cancer

@5zeds

Women slap people too.
So?.
IncompleteSenten · 28/03/2022 10:55

His carefully crafted nice guy image is hard to maintain at times.

MummyJ12 · 28/03/2022 10:58

Your post reads as though you believe I was trying to justify the assault @JaniieJones. I wasn’t…?!
We certainly agree that there are other issues at play that we don’t know about.

notanotheroneagain · 28/03/2022 11:00

@ravenmum

Chris should take on someone his own size How is Jada not "his size"? She looks pretty formidable to me, and capable of standing up for herself without having to set a Rottweiler on anyone.
The problem there is that Chris had an advantage of not just owning the mike on that night, but also the advantage of being a comedian and already pre-prepared. Jada had none of that, she was ambushed.
Agrudge · 28/03/2022 11:01

The joke is hardly the worst thing that's been said at the Oscar's. I dont see the fuss about it.

Will could of handled it better

fromdownwest · 28/03/2022 11:03

@Thewindwhispers

I think Will Smith was awesome. Making jokes on live TV about Will’s wife’s medical condition crossed a line. It was refreshing to see someone standing up for his wife instead of smiling and nodding and telling the woman that she has no right to be upset when mocked.

👏 Will Smith.

I assume next time you make a comment that someone takes offence to, then the continues to slap you about the face, you will applaud their lack of self control and anger?

Good enough for Chris Rock, good enough for you.

Caminante · 28/03/2022 11:06
@Caminante

I think thats worse than the original clip to be honest.

It's also not a clip of anyone involved in the incident.

Chris Rock isn't in it.
Yes I've commented to acknowledge that twice now

Doubledenimrock · 28/03/2022 11:08

All Smith needed to do was keep a poker face and check on his wife. Maybe later address it in his speech or the media.

ravenmum · 28/03/2022 11:11

@notanotheroneagain But that's how it always is with these roasts. Tom Hanks looked pretty pissed off by Ricky Gervais last time, but no-one would say that Gervais should take on someone his own size, would they?

SleepingStandingUp · 28/03/2022 11:11

@maltravers

Chris Rock made a nasty spiteful joke at a woman’s expense and everyone is expected to laugh at her and think he’s edgy/it was just banter. Not acceptable.
Neither is violence. If the slap was justified because CR was a dick, Where's the line? Could he have punched him? Kicked him whilst he was down? What if it had been a joke by a woman? Is it OK for WS to slap or punch her?

If WS had marched up and had a go I think he'd had got a round of applause. If he'd walked up to CR and said look man, it is not ok taking the piss out of my wife for something you know is a medical condition. You've ruined her night, now be a man and apologise CR would have been firmly in the naughty step and WS would have been a legend. Instead WS initially laughs, sees his wife's face, decides he must do something, marches not runs so has time to think it out and then goes with violence.
They should rescind the Oscar.

Don't be silly now, it seems the acceptable riposte is to physically assault someone in front of millions of people, sending the message to lots of young men / women that this is ok, and how things are done.

If someone upsets you, just slap them...

GeoffLynton · 28/03/2022 11:14

I'm staggered that he was allowed to carry on, and then accept his award and give his speech.

As if he hadn't just assaulted someone?!

5zeds · 28/03/2022 11:15

@Maireas so it’s not particularly an alpha male move

whynotwhatknot · 28/03/2022 11:15

I like them both it was an awful joke and will sholdnt have slapped him but

what would everyone say if it was a joke about the Coda cast being deaf-would it have been just get over it?

Pamela420 · 28/03/2022 11:16

Deservs it Wink

Maireas · 28/03/2022 11:17
@Maireas so it’s not particularly an alpha male move
Depends

Blossomtoes · 28/03/2022 11:17

I’d be so upset and angry if my bloke behaved like this regardless of what anyone said about me.

Roundlampshade · 28/03/2022 11:18

Maybe Will Smith has woken up to a monumental hangover and his next step is going into rehab.

Supersee · 28/03/2022 11:18

@GeoffLynton

And get a standing ovation to boot. That and the skit of the men being sexually harassed. Double standards of Hollywood flying high.

HotDiggityHot · 28/03/2022 11:21

I've watched this and believe it's 100% real. That was such a cruel joke though but assaulting him was really really bad. Two wrongs don't make it right. Will should have approached it in a more calm and collected manner. He had all that time to get up and walk calmly to the stage and could have shamed him using his words that it's not ok to make a joke about his illness or stayed put and make a statement.

Musomama1 · 28/03/2022 11:21

Yeah I get that there are always Hollywood roasts at these events - and can be very funny when exercised with a bit of timing and judgement.

But joking about a distressing (what woman wants to go bald?) medical condition in a room full of beautiful people is crossing a line.

Not advocating the violence though.
