Easter Dinner

Do you have a special Easter Dinner and if so, what do you have? I want to have a menu which is special and only comes out once a year but I'm kind of struggling with a starter and dessert. Last year we had potted shrimp which looked fantastic and very eastery but were disgusting. We have chocolate cake for dessert but we have that at pretty much any event DD can squeeze it into.

So inspire me, what's your easter menu?

For main we have roast lamb, roast potatoes, roasted asparagus and honey roasted carrots. Everyone loves this course.

Ill make a Christmas dinner. I have a turkey crown in the freezer.

Always turkey at Easter!

We do a similar main. Dessert depends on our mood and timing. We often do Panna Cotta as it’s easy to prepare in advance. If we do a starter it will be Parma ham and melon most times (DD’s favours it) but I normally don’t bother that often.

In winter we sometimes do soup, tomato for DD and a sweet pepper for us, they are prepared when I have time and frozen in single portions, so only heating up required.

I try to keep it simple as there is normally hot cross buns and chocolate for breakfast and cake in the afternoon unless we go out in the afternoon but we often end in a place with a cafe.

For me Easter is similar to Christmas, a lovely day with decorations, eggs instead of presents, family or friends. I am from Germany where Easter is a slightly bigger thing I often think.

I usually do a gigot d'agneau with flageolets and a gratin dauphinois. I lived in France for many years and my good friend, who was a chef, taught me how to make this. It's soooo good!

For my family, Easter is primarily a Christian celebration of rebirth, resurrection and eternal life. I love going to church on Easter Sunday.

Normally roast lamb and last year xmas pudding! As we had 3 left over ( we buy 1 and then somehow we ended up with more)
Then easter eggs as and when

This year we're away. So will eat out.

I don't like chocolate so I do a big roast and have MIL and FIL over - sometimes lamb but not too bothered

Good Friday we usually have fish - often fish pie, sometimes fish and chips. And hot cross buns as I don't believe they should be eaten or bought BEFORE Good Friday (but you can eat them after Good Friday for a few weeks) - so that keeps them special.

Easter Sunday will usually be a roast, often lamb, but it doesn't have to be. No starter. Dessert quite often a trifle with little mini eggs on top. Or simnel cake.

When I was growing up we always had leg of lamb roast.. as an adult I think fuck paying £10 fir a keg of lamb well have a £4 chicken instead. Only nice part of lamb is the mint sauce and gravy mopping it all up with bread. Lamb just tastes fatty

I am really angry of seeing Hot Cross buns all year round, it's so wrong.

We often start Palm Sunday though.

We can't have hot cross buns as part of our Easter dinner as we're not in the UK and I can't be arsed making them. I did order some from the online British grocery store but they all got eaten as soon as they arrived.

I'm going to have a go at oliver bunnies but they need something to go with. My kids would leave home if I served up a salad for a special dinner.

I love going to church and then coming home and eating a big meal after 6 weeks of fasting. It's possible, and indeed a fairly standard activity for many Christians, to have a big celebration on Easter Sunday.

I make bunny pancakes on Easter Sunday for breakfast, have done for years. Always make nest buns and usually get an Easter Colin the caterpillar for dessert. Just a Sunday roast for dinner so veggie main for DS and I, chicken for everyone else with roasties, veggies and Yorkshire puds.
