Easter Dinner

Do you have a special Easter Dinner and if so, what do you have? I want to have a menu which is special and only comes out once a year but I'm kind of struggling with a starter and dessert. Last year we had potted shrimp which looked fantastic and very eastery but were disgusting. We have chocolate cake for dessert but we have that at pretty much any event DD can squeeze it into.

So inspire me, what's your easter menu?

For main we have roast lamb, roast potatoes, roasted asparagus and honey roasted carrots. Everyone loves this course.

I think we are going to have salad this year, but it’s just an idea l have started with today looking forward to see what everyone else is having so l can maybe change my plan.

DaisyWaldron · 27/03/2022 20:16

Easter salad, which is a "grass" of celeriac remoulade with radishes and green olives carved into bunny shapes on top.

Quails' eggs with celery salt.

Asparagus mimosa.

Slow cooked shoulder of lamb with rosemary, anchovies and garlic.

Dauphinoise potatoes.

Green beans and tenderstem/purple sprouting broccoli with garlic.

Green salad.

A little bit of cheese but not very much, fairly strongly goat-based.

Lemon posset. Possibly with a fancy shortbread.

No more food for days.

So everyone else just eats cream eggs and chocolate then?

Yep. Never made an Easter dinner in my life. I don’t like lamb either.
MyDcAreMarvel · 28/03/2022 17:41

mumonthehill · 28/03/2022 17:46

Pavlova with mini eggs on, chocolate cheesecake, hot cross bun bread and butter pudding, lemon tart, all good pud options! We do slow cooked lamb like you.

Pretty much.

Breakfast is the bunny shaped crumpets from Asda
Lunch is some kind of Sunday roast, whatever meat is in the shop and looks good when I do the weekly food run
Dinner is leftovers of lunch with picked stuff and crusty bread.

But honestly It's all about the eggs.

green olives carved into bunny shapes
I thought you were joking @DaisyWaldron but I’ve just looked it up and it’s a real thing! Your lunch prep must take you hours!

EssexLioness · 28/03/2022 17:55

My Easter menu is exactly the same as @HalfShrunkMoreToGo, except we don’t eat meat so will do a veggie main instead

SliceOfCakeCupOfTea · 28/03/2022 17:56

We do a Christmas dinner type thing. Usually with lamb or chicken though.

No starter but always cheesecake for pud.

BooksAndHooks · 28/03/2022 18:00

We basically have a second Christmas dinner and we save a Christmas pudding for Easter every year.

freshcarnation · 28/03/2022 18:03

Shepherds pie and champagne

PuddleglumtheMarshWiggle · 28/03/2022 18:04

No starter, minted roast lamb for main and simnel cake for pud.

tigerbird · 28/03/2022 18:05

I think we’ll have lamb, roast potatoes, carrots, tenderstem broccoli and maybe sugar snap peas.

Asparagus for a starter with a lemon dressing.

For pudding either a chocolate cake or some Easter nests made by DD - if we can fit anything else in by then!

Easter lunch is so nice - without the pressure to have all the heavy side dishes you get at Christmas, it can be just loads of fresh veg and some lovely plain roast lamb. Mmmm!

VyeBrator · 28/03/2022 18:06

I'd like a leg of lamb but I think I'd have to release the equity in my house to pay for it.

HermioneWeasley · 28/03/2022 18:07

Never bother with a starter

Lamb for main - I’m contemplating a guard of honour or lamb cannon this year.

I did a key lime pie for dessert last year and that went down well so I’ll probably do that again.

Littlemissprosecco · 28/03/2022 18:14

A cold fish platter
Roast chicken and roast salmon, with new potatoes then and/ or veg/ salad depending on the weather and if we’re eating in or out!
Cheese board with figs and grapes
Chocolate pavlova

SixteenTwelve · 28/03/2022 18:19

I’m going to make individual chocolate mousses for pudding and put some mini eggs on top

ScouseQueen · 28/03/2022 18:22

Love the idea of salad for starter. Very spring like. You could find a suitable recipe and make that your Easter salad. If it was a colder year you could switch to Nigella's pea and pesto soup - suitably green!

We've often had lamb, sometimes chicken, but have picked different puddings depending on how we feel. Something like Eton mess with berries would be nice for the season. Love the lemon posset suggestions too.

catsandquails · 28/03/2022 18:31

Roast lamb! It's my favourite meat but it's so expensive, I only buy it at Easter.

carefullycourageous · 28/03/2022 18:37

This year I am planning to do a really good buffet/spread of salads.

For dessert I am not sure, often just ice cream. We make more of a thing of Easter breakfast where we have lots of homebaked amazing things (not made by me, DH does it).

bananaboats · 28/03/2022 19:54

Just Easter eggs here! Didn't know easter was something people made a special dinner for too be honest!

DaisyWaldron · 28/03/2022 21:24

@YellowPlant

The bunnies don't take long at all. You just slice off the bottom and stick the sliced bit back on the top. The kids generally do a lot of the work. My mum used to make olive bunnies when I was little, so I like to do it, too.
Oldraver · 28/03/2022 21:28

We will be there acellular Ng back from somewhere .... So Gregg's at a motorway services

The last two Easter egg hunts were in a hotel.its not planned to go away for Easter job at panned out like that

mindutopia · 28/03/2022 21:28

I don't really tend to do a starter for Easter as we usually don't have guests (not as big a holiday as Christmas). We usually have lamb or a treacle basted gammon, with potatoes (roasted or new) and spring veg. With a light fruit based pud.

Not a massive fan of a 'lamb roast' with mint sauce, etc. so we often do things like middle eastern spiced lamb cooked on the BBQ or lamb kebabs with a mint yogurt and pita.

If I was thinking of the two courses other than the main, I'd do a nettle soup (my fav in the spring!) and some sort of light fruit pudding with custard or cream.
