I wish I could record the way my ds greets the dogs

It never fails to make me smile :)

One of my dc is 24. He’s big and burly and, tbh, I think he could look quite intimidating.

He absolutely is not though, the opposite in fact. We have 2 sausage dogs who he completely adores, and it’s mutual. They go bananas when he comes in, and I just love hearing the way he greets them! It’s all high pitched daft sausage dog terms of endearment and it makes me happy!

No point to this post - just wanted to share!

Any camera or smartphone should be able to record it. Or am I missing something?

Wendyer · 26/03/2022 14:41

He wouldn’t want me to actually record it, and I wouldn’t do it without him knowing. It just makes me smile.

I have many saved recordings from the Ring doorbell of my hulk of an 18 year old greeting the cat on the front door step. There's one where he tries to get the cat to press the door bell with his paw "you can do it, you're a strong independent cat" while the cat answers back Grin

Hah! That sounds so funny - maybe I need one of those!

A Ring doorbell that is. Already have a cat and don’t fancy any more 18yr olds!

Same here! DS wouldn't intimidate anyone, he doesn't look that way, but it still melts me to hear him 'baby' the dog.

He's not expressive about emotions, and it reassures me that he has the capacity to be potty about some one, even if it is the dog!

BearSoFair · 26/03/2022 14:52

Not my son but I often felt like that about DH with our (now sadly departed) elderly cat. He's 6'3, heavily tattooed, I can see that people might make assumptions. But he's the biggest softy Grin He'd spot the cat going up the stairs and even if he was on the way down, pick her up and carry her up saying "oh, miss Daisy, let me help you! And what lovely weather we're having. What are your plans?" or similar, always made my heart melt!

I love it when my great big burly son goes all soppy! I hear you OP Flowers

Wendyer · 26/03/2022 14:57

Love these stories! My ds prefers animals to people too - he’s perfectly nice to me but I’ve never heard him talk to me (or anyone else for that matter!) the way he talks to the pets.

Ahhh I love this thread xxxx

DP is besotted with our dog. He's always affectionate with him but I overheard him talking to the dog early the other morning while he thought I was still asleep and he was getting pup out of bed. Saying 'I adore you, you know? I really adore you. Aw yes, good boy, good boy We love you, yes we do.' etc etc. It was very sweet.

LaraDeSalle · 26/03/2022 15:06

My husband automatically tips one of our dogs, a Whippet so that he is cradling him like a baby and walk around holding him with one arm just like he would hold an infant.

Wendyer · 26/03/2022 15:10

Ah, thank you for sharing these lovely stories! I’ve been feeling a bit sad but this thread is making me smile :)

My ds 20 has just come home for the weekend (army) and greeted the 4 ddogs before me!
He is always well received..
Ds7 shares bedtime stories with 3 of them. Makes ya heart swell seeing dc +dpets together imo!!

Is it too early to nominate this for Classics ?

MintyGreenDream · 26/03/2022 15:22

Ds is on his way out now - I’ve just heard him tell one of the sausages he hopes she’s got sun cream on … :)

Coz burnt sausages smell awful!!

MrsMinge · 26/03/2022 15:54

My partner who never ever wanted a dog & appears to be a hard man, goes to mush when greeted with the dog
Honest to God, he gets more hugs and kisses than anyone(the dog, not himGrin)
Nobody would believe me if I told them

LoopyDream · 26/03/2022 16:31

This is the only way to greet dogs though isn’t it?

Wendyer · 26/03/2022 19:21

I once heard him apologising to one of the sausages about making him go outside. It went something like this:

Ds: I’m sorry you have to go outside to use the toilet, I know the grass gets your tummy wet. And I know it’s not fair that I can use the toilet inside and you can’t - just go and be quick and then you can come back in

I thought that said your cat was heavily tattooed, not your DH. I was questioning the ethics of whoever did that.
MargaretThursday · 26/03/2022 19:55

My ds says "I love you" to each of his (many) budgies by name at night.
It's very sweet.
